I was hoping someone could help me I can't seem to find the answer.

I know that GCH has a direct entrance into DCA but how far is it from DL? In terms of distance is it still closer than DLH -- specifically the Frontier tower?

Yes GCH it is closer to Disneyland. It’s security entrances to Downtown Disney come out about in the middle, where DLH is at at the farthest away from Disneyland.

The pin that says Disneyland Drop Is the plaza between the two park entrances. You can see Grand Cal, and the pin on the far left that says Disneyland in red is the Disneyland Hotel.

As mentioned by the PP's yes, the distance from the GC to the DL turnstiles is less than it would be from the DLH. Basically you would walk through all of DTD when coming from the DLH, but only about half (or less) if coming from the GC. Still, its not a really long distance.

Frontier often adds extra walking as well, but it's not really a big deal. Still, I've always preferred Adventure for that reason!

One nice thing about DLH is that it's close to the monorail. I often use that later in the day.

Have you heard if the Monorail is going to be be down for awhile? I heard rumors on another board(I think I was Reddit) the Monorail was done for good & I wanted to start crying LOL I love the monorail!

Conceptually, the GCH seems like it should be closer, but it really depends on room location. The hallways are super long and if you end up in a room where you have to navigate 3 long hallways to get to the elevator + walking through the lobby to the courtyard to get to the DtD exit for the hotel, it can feel just as far/further than the DLH. We sometimes prefer DLH because it is interesting walking through DtD, especially when they have the bands playing. We don't base which hotel to stay based on location because it is so depended on what room you're assigned.

One other perk of staying at the Grand Cal is walking through DCA on your way to Disneyland (or the other way if on your way to the room for a break) if you have a hopper or Magic Key. We find the security at the park entrance to be a bit friendlier and we love the theme of the Grizzly Trail and Buena Vista street. Take some time to stop and look at the theming of the (usually) dry river that separates the park from the hotel, the beautiful windows of Napa Rose, etc..

One downside, we occasionally will get flagged for going through DCA too fast and a supervisor will have to approve to let us in to Disneyland.

Just got back from my first stay at the grand Californian, and another really cool perk is if you happen to get soaked on grizzly river run, there is an entrance to the hotel right there so you could run up and change. I actually ran upstairs to drop off our backpack because I didn’t want to take it with us. So convenient.

Take a look at a satellite map view of the Disneyland Resort property and you can very clearly see that the GCH is much closer to both park entrances than the DLH.
I think where I was/am getting confused is when I look at a map it seems pretty cut & dry. But I keep hearing people say it really depend on your room at GCH because of the long hallways & that all the 1/2 bedroom suites are further away. When I look at a map even with a long hallway it seems like GCH still would be a lot closer. I had a friend get back from DL not long ago and she was like well it really depends on 'how' you enter the park. She was trying to tell me The Westin was as close as DLH when it came to walking which made no sense. They were pretty high up on #1 for offsite & I still caught myself looking at them and their bathtubs LOL

I never even ventured over the to hotel part last time we were there & didnt spend much time in DCA sadly... so my mind can only seem to grasp the main entrance.

I don't understand your last sentence. Are you saying that you're rushing through DCA when the park opens to get to Disneyland and there are CMs who ask you not to do that?

Except that only works after 11 am these days.

If you try to enter one park too soon after entering the other the system flags you and you have to get an override at the ticket booth before you can get in to the second park.

There is cooldown period, about 15 minutes, from scanning into one park then the other. Or even back into the same park. Happened to us when we scanned in at monorail station. The monorail went down, switching to walk to main gate. Was flagged with a quick approval reset.

Just from my non-scientific data point...when we stay at the GHC we pop in and out of the room a few times a day to freshen up or grab a evening change of clothes...when we stay at the DLH or PPH we tend to leave in the AM and not return till end of day stashing a jacket in a locker so we don't have to trek back.

People really overstate the "long hallways" at GCH. There are shortcuts. With the exception of the DVC wing, none of the rooms at GCH are more than a 5 minute walk from the lobby, if even that long. I wouldn't ever factor that into the equation. I consider the distance from the place you either enter or exit the hotel to the park entry point. I have never counted the distance from my actual room to my final destination. We stayed in a room at the far end of the wing overlooking Downtown Disney, near the tram drop off location. I timed the walk to the security entrance into Downtown Disney from our room and removing the elevator ride, the total time was under 4 minutes. I suppose some people may walk at turtle speed, but I walk at what I consider a normal pace of around 3 mph. It was probably a 250m walk. It was about 150m to the DCA hotel entrance.

Oh, I didn't know that. Why do they care, if you have a hopper and you're withing the allowable hopping period?
