ANAHEIM – A small fire in the basement of the Disneyland Hotel sent smoke billowing through the vent system early Saturday morning, triggering temporary evacuations of several floors.

One firefighter employed by Disney suffered from minor smoke inhalation but declined treatment, according to Sgt. Daron Wyatt with the Anaheim Police Department. No one else was injured in the incident.

Authorities got a call about a possible structure fire at the hotel just before 6 a.m., Wyatt said. When they arrived, they found an active fire in the basement. It was a fairly small blaze, Wyatt said, but it was generating a significant amount of smoke.

Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the fire. They determined it had been sparked by oil on a machine in the basement catching fire.

No guests were ever in danger, Wyatt said. But they evacuated the first three floors from the hotel’s Frontier Tower as a precautionary measure and due to the heavy smoke.

Some guests were moved to the nearby Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel, Wyatt said. Others were soon allowed to return to their rooms.

Wyatt said they declared the blaze a second-alarm fire because of the resources needed to search the multistory hotel and evacuate guests.

Most of the fire crews were gone by 8 a.m., he said, with just one engine left behind to help mop up water in the basement.

Oh my goodness glad everyone is okay. This is by biggest fear as my Father is on constant oxygen, this would have been devastating for us. Thankfully it all worked out for everyone there, hope the rest of your stay is perfect.

Glad everyone is ok. We were evacuated out of the Grand Californian at 3am when the Christmas tree caught on fire in 2005! Not a fun night, but they evacuated us into It's Tough to be a Bug and we got to see Hopper with his skin off.
