DL Hotel vs GC

The odds of me going on a trip this october are very high, and I have been waffling about staying the DL Hotel or the GC. Price isn't a giant issue, and the difference is about 600 dollars between the two. My logic is I can take advantage of the GC entrance and such or I can use that 600 dollars to enjoy more of the luxury dining options in the park (like BB; I am a sucker for the dining).

Input on the major differences between the two now that GC has been renovated???

Edit: the walking isnt a major issue for me, I am just more interested in the fact that there isnt a hoard of people to possibly deal with at the GC entrance.

Since, the price and location aren’t big factors for you I’d stay at whichever hotel appeals the most to you. DLH has more Disney history, a tropical pool, Disney touches in the rooms, and characters roaming around. GCH has a woodsy theme, grand lobby to relax in and I feel a more relaxing pool scene.

I have a bias towards the DLH but given the upcoming construction of the new hotel adjacent the DLH, I would vote for the GCH just to avoid the construction mess.

I would absolutely stay at GCH in October. Proximity and construction near DLH would make it an easy decision.

I don't feel Disney will let the construction put a damper on their guests stay.
They are generally pretty good at disguising construction projects.

For cost savings during your trip, you can look into Gay Days and Dapper Days.
Booking through their event can save on rooms and tickets.

We loved staying at Disneyland Hotel in November.

Both are great hotels. In my mind the construction in front of the Disneyland Hotel might make me lean towards the GC at least for the time period you are thinking about going... Plus with the recently redone rooms at the GC that might be fun to experience while they are still rather new.

GCH. Your issue at DLH is construction/demolition & it should be well under way by Oct. Ick.

I know nothing about how Disneyland does things, but I would be shocked if they let the construction interfere with anyone's stay at DLH. Not for $600 a night. And from the maps, it seems the construction would be in an area not impacting DLH except for when walking to the parks, and even then, I'm sure it will all be blocked off.

My question about the construction is where will you be routed to go through security?

Do you have any idea how LOUD demolition work and construction is? It is SERIOUSLY loud. They have to completely level 4 huge buildings, jackhammer a ton of walkway, and then do site prep work using heavy land movers. The towers at the DLH are poorly soundproofed. You can hear music playing at Downtown Disney from inside your room. Guests in the Adventure and Fantasy towers will be impacted by this huge project and there is no way Disney can prevent that.

They are currently building a second parking structure at M&F and you can hear THAT noise from just outside the DLH and that site is a good 500 yards away.

OP: stay at the Grand.

They will likely construct a tunnel type pass through and may move the security check onto the DLH grounds, routing Paradise Pier guests through there as well.

And how will you get from there into DTD/the parks? Through the tunnel thing?

Seems like it would impact all the hotels in that case.

It probably will to some extent. I honestly think this is the WORST location ever to build a hotel. It is really stupid placement. It was supposed to be in the space that is currently the parking lot of Downtown Disney. That would have been a far better location, logistics wise.

They still have not received the permit from the city to actually build the hotel there yet. I think it's odd that they have already announced that closures of all the places they need to demo before they even obtained the permits to put the hotel there in the first place.

Does anyone know how long this construction is expected to go on for? It could be a huge impact on guests staying at the DLH if the noise will be as loud as some are saying. The DLH is where we like to stay, so just wondering how long it will be until the new hotel is finished?

Wow! That's a long time to be impacted by construction noise at the DLH! Hopefully once the tearing down of the old buildings is done, the noise levels won't be as bad!:headache:
