DL Firework Viewing - How to avoid this tree?

It will always be tricky. The Fireworks are shot from the left of the centerline in DL, unlike the MK where they are directly though far behind the Castle when looking down mainstreet.

If you go to the right, sure no trees for the high fireworks shot from backstage. But then trees may obscure the view of the Matterhorn where they display some projections and Tink flys from.

It's a bit of a catch 22. Give some take some. But there is one small area with a good view of it all. It's probably about the oppsite side of the hub from where your picture was taken. It is in front of the hub but you look strait down the path that splits to FL and TL around the base of the Matterhorn.

I agree with skiingfast of going on the opposite side of your picture since you can see the fireworks on the left side of the castle. Viewing the fireworks from the right side of the Hub is easier than the left side since you have those trees from Carnation Plaza Gardens which is annoying when you are watching the fireworks. The left side of the Hub watching the fireworks is also the best spot in order to go straight to the ROA for the 2nd F! show (if they are running multiple shows that night). Because you will be closer to the entrance to Frontierland and won't have to budge your way over to the ROA.

And just like skiingfast said that if you watch the fireworks from the right side, there are some trees blocking the Matterhorn and also block part of Tink flying in the sky.

Because we were use to watching them at WDW - we stood where we did expecting them to come up over the center of the castle.

Thank you both for the feedback! I like your suggestion skiingfast.

We also plan to go over to ROA for Fantasmic too, so yes the left side would be better....we will have to weigh it out - how much we would lose by going on the right side of the hub and snagging a good spot at fantasmic.

How about the view if you stand behind the hub (i.e going towards main street) - is there a sweet spot along there for an un-obscured view?

It only depends on where do you want to view F! for the 2nd show. If you care about a sitting area right by the ROA, I would stay on the left side of the Hub. If you don't care about the sitting area, it is good to be right by the Light Towers where you don't have to wait a long time like the sitting area. But you won't be able to sit, you have to stand. You should check out this thread by HydroGuy that tells you everything about Fantasmic! Supertread

You can still see the fireworks with no problem down the streets of MS. Stay in the middle of the streets in order to see SB castle during the fireworks. The trees around the Hub will be in the way and will block part of the castle if you are in the back side of the Hub down towards MS, but it is still viewable to see the fireworks. Some people like watching it from the back just like at WDW MK. At least the WDW Hub does not too many trees blocking the castle so it is not nice to watch it from the back, but at DL the trees can block the view of the special effects on SB castle. You can still see the fireworks with no problem

If you want to do both in night, it's not too hard. And you don't need to be on the left. Because usually the first F! end and then FW ends. All those F! come toward the hub clogging the paths when they get to the FW crowd. At the end they are trying to push through eachother on the path from the hub to Adventureland and Frontierland.

So if you are willing to give up some view stay on or near the walkways that are kept open. This will put you closer to the edge of the hub that's edge with trees or buildings on MS that will obscure you view. But if you can get in a spot five feet from that path this will work. Sometime you can get a good spot behind people but with a path behind you.

Get on the path as things end, go counter clockwise around the hub, so not immediatly toward ROA. Going this way takes you right in front of the castle. And is a bit counter to what everyone else will do, letting you move fairly easy. This will put you are the front of the pack. If the entrance to Frontierland looks packed go right toward Plaza Gardens Stage go around the stage to a "secret" passage into Frontierland. This can get you not just in front of the FW crowd going to F! but also behind the first F! trying to leave.
