To help budget without carrying cash or cards I thought about purchasing Disney gift cards from Sams Club. They have a 3 card pack. Each $50 for a total of $142.
Can these cards be used for quick service and table service meals? At food carts?

That's interesting. Can you use them to settle your bill at the end of the trip if you charge everything to your room?

Yes, we used them for all of that. Every couple of days I would take some down to pay room charges too. Only left putting 12.00 on the credit card to pay after trip which was nice.

If you have a lot of cards it can be hard to keep track of - I made a spreadsheet with numbers and pins so that if I needed to check a balance I could (we had used a couple of cards and did not get them back after spending and could not remember what we spent them on). They also print the gift card number and remaining balance on your receipts so you can use those to keep track.

I would not wait until the end of your trip to do it. Every resort level has a threshold for spending on your room account. Once you reach that level, they charge the credit card on file. In the past, those thresholds were $500 for Value Resorts, $1000 for Moderate Resorts and $1500 for Deluxe Resorts. However, there have been recent reports on the Resorts Board, that credit cards have been charged long before those thresholds have been reached.

My strategy for our next visit will be to take some GCs into the parks for larger purchases and use the MBs for small ones. I'm less likely to reach that arbitrary threshold if I do it that way.

There is an app called Disney Gift Card that you can enter all of your card information into and it will update the balances. I have put all of ours in there, even the kid's. I just made sure to title them so I knew which was which (Olaf, Elsa, Minnie, Frozen, soccer Mickey, daugher's Mickey, son's Mickey, etc etc etc).

The app is great, to keep track of the GC balances, or to check a balance on a card you have laying around. I usually buy a large Disney GC to use on my trips, say for $300. It is so convenient. (not at a discount, but I order fun ones from Disneygiftcard.com, they have hundreds of choices of designs).

The Disney Gift Card app was iOS only and is no longer available, nor is it being updated for use with new iOS versions.

It let me add cards yesterday (ios 8). Guess I shouldn't update to 8.3 before we leave next week?

I guess that I should be more clear...the app works with current versions of iOS. There are no guarantees that it will work with future iOS versions and it will not be updated if/when that happens.

Personally, I never updated my iOS until I knew that all the bugs were worked out. Many times, I would hold off until it was absolutely necessary. Apple tends to push updates out there and then scrambles to fix the mess they create afterwards.

You can try using an app called Gyft to keep track of your GCs. It's not as cute as the Disney GC app and it's made by a company that is in the business of selling and sending e-GCs, but the app can also function as a way of storing multiple GCs in one place. It will even generate a bar code which can be scanned at the point of sale. It will work across devices if you use the same login info. Plus it's available in both android and iOS.

As a test, I installed it on one of my android phones that I use for Perk. I added a small Disney GC and it worked fine. Then I installed it on my personal cellphone, logged in with the same info used on the first phone and the Disney GC showed up on phone #2's app. Finally, I installed it on an old iPhone and logged in with the same user ID and password one more time. And the same Disney GC was available there as well.

Added bonus: They gave me a $5 credit to use towards a $15 (or more) GC purchase, when paying with PayPal or Google Wallet.

There is a great thread on here that tells you how to save even MORE on GCs. Also, consider a Disney Vacation Account for those gift cards!
