There has been a great deal of interest in the signs that a few kind hearted souls are making for folks on this board. I wanted to start this thread to give those folks that are so inclined the tools to build their own sign.

First thing you need is decent imaging software. There is a really nice piece of free software called GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program) that can be downloaded from www.gimp.org.

Next you need a place to start. AuburnJen92 posted the photoshop layer file that she used in her sign where the major elements are already separated into layers. (This format is readable by GIMP) You can find that here:
http://majorsjc.googlepages.com/rvsign.psd

You will probably also need the Disney font that is part of the sign. You can find a lot of free fonts here: http://mickeyavenue.com/fonts/disney-fonts-list/. One specific font that you will need is the Waltograph font, http://mickeyavenue.com/fonts/waltograph.shtml. Look around and you might find a few more fonts to help stimulate your creativity.

That's really about all you need. The GIMP software is very comparable to the full release of Photoshop, it is just a ton cheaper. Free always beats $$$$$ anyday. There is a bit of a learning curve with the program, but a little digging around and you can figure it out. There are also online tutorials available. There are a few folks here that are getting really good with GIMP and I'm sure if you ask they will be more than happy to tell you how they are doing what they are doing.

I am including links for my DIS sign and the musket mickey sign in my siggy. Both are PSD format so all the important elements are in separate layers so you can extract and use elsewhere as desired. Also included are the fonts that I use in my DIS sign.

Right click on the following links and "Save Target As..."
http://home.tx.rr.com/maserafin/sign/dissign2.psd - DIS Camping Sign (3.3MB)
http://home.tx.rr.com/maserafin/sign/musketmickey.psd - Muskey Mickey Sign (7.5MB)
http://home.tx.rr.com/maserafin/sign/WOODBADG.TTF - font for "fort fiends" in my sign
http://home.tx.rr.com/maserafin/sign/woodcut.ttf - font for "long live muskey mickey" in my sign

I just noticed in my browser for some of the files that right clicking and "save as..." wants to set the extension to .htm. Make sure when you save the files that you correct the extension if necessary.

With people like Rog, Seabee and others why waste your time to do all this. Good info though lol. I'm considering taking my sign and having a flag made out of it.

What ??? after all your pics all over the DIS you think nobody will notice you, I think the flag is a little vain ! :lmao:

Donnie,
I think this is a wonderful idea. Let me know if you find a place to do it. I would also like to order one!! My laminated sign was history after all the rain when I took it down this morning!!

Wow, a flag would be really cool. If you find a place, see if they will give you a volume discount, and get us all together to get one.

OOOOO, I like that idea!

Here is one I found real quick... just to get an idea... click here

The only thing is that our names are different so it wouldn't be like a big run of the same thing. MBMacs had a cool banner made last 4th of July. Maybe banners are a better idea.

Didn't take long for the wheels to fall off this one. :lmao: :lmao:

It went from 0 to bust in 7 posts!!!

I like the flag idea too....maybe we could all get together and have the flag made and use IRON-ON Letters for personalizing???

Stacktester made fun of my "block letters" on my sign. I would have to get Nicole to help me with a fancy name before I order my flag!! :confused3

NO, that was my idea...please get out of my head!!! :lmao: It gets a bit scary in there!

I'm here for you Christy!!! :lmao:

You could just print your sign onto fabric paper and iron it onto a flag. Although that site John found looks pretty good.

Personalized flags may be more difficult but how about a run of "Fort Fiends - Long Live Musket Mickey" flags?

Thanks to Mike for the links. I aspire to be a "sign maker extraordinaire" like Seabee so all the help I can get is appreciated.

How about a run of general Musket Mickey flags made from fabric which you can iron a t-shirt transfer of your own ID onto the other side?

Bex

Congrats on the tag seabee, Apparently the Tag Fairie does visit the camping board..
