There has been a great deal of interest in the signs that a few kind hearted souls are making for folks on this board. I wanted to start this thread to give those folks that are so inclined the tools to build their own sign.
First thing you need is decent imaging software. There is a really nice piece of free software called GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program) that can be downloaded from www.gimp.org.
Next you need a place to start. AuburnJen92 posted the photoshop layer file that she used in her sign where the major elements are already separated into layers. (This format is readable by GIMP) You can find that here:

You will probably also need the Disney font that is part of the sign. You can find a lot of free fonts here: http://mickeyavenue.com/fonts/disney-fonts-list/. One specific font that you will need is the Waltograph font, http://mickeyavenue.com/fonts/waltograph.shtml. Look around and you might find a few more fonts to help stimulate your creativity.
That's really about all you need. The GIMP software is very comparable to the full release of Photoshop, it is just a ton cheaper. Free always beats $$$$$ anyday. There is a bit of a learning curve with the program, but a little digging around and you can figure it out. There are also online tutorials available. There are a few folks here that are getting really good with GIMP and I'm sure if you ask they will be more than happy to tell you how they are doing what they are doing.
I am including links for my DIS sign and the musket mickey sign in my siggy. Both are PSD format so all the important elements are in separate layers so you can extract and use elsewhere as desired. Also included are the fonts that I use in my DIS sign.
Right click on the following links and "Save Target As..."
http://home.tx.rr.com/maserafin/sign/dissign2.psd - DIS Camping Sign (3.3MB)
http://home.tx.rr.com/maserafin/sign/musketmickey.psd - Muskey Mickey Sign (7.5MB)
http://home.tx.rr.com/maserafin/sign/WOODBADG.TTF - font for "fort fiends" in my sign
http://home.tx.rr.com/maserafin/sign/woodcut.ttf - font for "long live muskey mickey" in my sign
I just noticed in my browser for some of the files that right clicking and "save as..." wants to set the extension to .htm. Make sure when you save the files that you correct the extension if necessary.
