Divorce Question

I asked this on another board, but I want as many answers as possible, so I want to ask you guys. My friend has been seeing this guy for 3 years. They want to get married, but he is married already, but has filed for divorce. Apparently his wife said that she will never give him the divorce. What can happen? Can the divorce still go through at some point? They really want to get married, but the current wife is holding out, probably because she knows they want to marry.

Laws vary by state, but he will eventually be granted his divorce. One party cannot hold it up indefinitely.

Yep, it may be a long drawn out fight if she's got a good lawyer, but it will go through.

several thoughts occurred to me.

one is that the boyfriend may be lying -- that he doesn't intend to get married again and uses is wife as an excuse.

the other is that the wife is giving him a battle over money/kids/whatever, and he doens't have the ability or desire to put up a fight, and is just letting things slide.

or it could be that he's involved in a nasty divorce and doesn't see the light at the end of the tunnel.

legally he's entitled to a divorce, legally she cannot prevent the court from granting a divorce eventually, and if he pushes things he'll eventually get what he wants.
