Stay 4 nights at each? It would be just my teenage daughter and I - good idea?

If you are just looking for a change of scenery mid-trip than I think its a good idea - if you are looking for something completely different I would split with a different resort.

We typically switch after 3-4 nights just for a change of atmosphere. I always recommend splitting between an Epcot and MK resort - helps with park touring plans.

Although both are beaultiful hotels, they are so similar and so close together geographically that I don't see the point of making a move. You can easily enjoy both hotels while staying at just one. They even share the main pool.

My personal choice of the two is the Dolphin because there are more dining options and it generally has a livlier atmosphere. Also, Tubbi's is in the Dolphin and I really like having this option available 24 hours a day.

If you really want to split your stay, I would choose to go to a completely different resort.

I wouldn't personally make such a switch. I kind of view the two hotels as one resort. Yes, the hotels are a bit different. However, they share transportation and the Grotto pool. They are right across from one another so you can easily take advantage of the restaurants in either. Not that switching is a lot of trouble, but it doesn't seem to get you much if you go from one to the other.

That being said, we do like to switch resorts sometimes. Our December trip this year will be split between VWL and BCV.

I would not switch between the Swan and Dolphin. They are both so similar, I'm not sure it would be worth the time. It is not a big deal to switch, but it does tie up a couple of hours with packing, moving, re-checking in, unpacking, etc. We have don it in the past because we couldn't get one hotel for the whole week (a long story involving my father, his camper, my sister, my wife, my son, and myself) or because we had one hotel already booked when we found out our friends were coming to stay at CSR and we couldn't get the room there for the first night.

When we have switched, it has been to two totally different resorts (ie All Star Music/Contemporary, All Star Music/Coronado Springs) so we got a different feel. This December we are switching from POFQ to AKL because of availability. We really wanted to stay at the AKL, but couldn't get all the nights we wanted so we are spending the 1st night at POFQ (a great resort by the way).

Like I said, it is not a huge deal, but it does tie up a couple of hours and I 'm not sure it is worth it for two such similar resorts.:)

I wouldn't switch. My new Disney home choice is the Swan. However, we never ate there. We ate at Tubbis! Or the Dolphin fountain for cookies (before I realized that Swan Club level left theirs out even after the normal 5 - 7 time!). We wandered thru the Dolphin gift shop, used the laundry at the Dolphin, etc.........They are soooo close.

I preferred the smaller, more intimate atmosphere of the Swan (can you say that about a place with 800 rooms?) and the conveniences of the Dolphin so we used both!
