Divas, Zebra Domes, and Pixie Dust! A Week in an African Paradise! New TR Link Pg.145

I love the giraffe pix! My favorite of this set though is actually that last flamingo pic! The bird's eye is piercing!

Great updates! I got behind alittle bit but all caught up now!! Can't wait to hear about Boma! The first time I went there, I loved it, last time, wasn't too impressed.

I heart AK! Sounds like it was unbearably hot that day!!! Whew!

Great Giraffe pics! They are such beautiful gentle creatures!

After our night at Boma and exploring the Lodge a bit we fell in love! Definately on my list of a place I have to stay sometime.

Connor is too funny with his "my sister is evil" business. Little brothers make me laugh!

Allyson

Your pictures are truly beautiful.

Loved the comment Connor made. My youngest Danielle (10) says the same thing about her sister Michelle (19) She refers to her as Evil M. When we spot Malificent she tells her "I just saw you".

Great update! Love the Giraffes and oh how well I know the showing of tween disgruntledness.

I love the skull sticks!

It was very good -- but you wouldn't want to drink like 9 in a sitting or anything. ;)

Oh I don't know - he might:rolleyes1 We all love ya, Jordan!

Hi Jackie! All caught up again after rafting and shopping and eating way too much! Loved the updates!

Connor's hallucintions are so cute - he probably did need that water!
Chelsea's necklace is very nice! She does have good taste.
I'm excited you'll be going back for F&W
And love the giraffe pics! They are the most beautiful, graceful creatures! It looks like they were posing for you!

001-1.jpg

This is cool. I never saw it.

Love the AKL and giraffe pictures. Just a few weeks ago, I was standing at all of those places, looking at the same signs, the same giraffes, the same flamingos.
Or flamingoes. They are both correct.
We have such a weird language.
It's really hard to explain it all to seven and eight year olds, since many adults don't even get it.

I am sorry to say that I don't think a visit to AKL is in our October plans. There just isn't going to be time. I love going over there, though, because it is an activity in itself.

I haven't read everything, but tell me again about your Mary Poppins plans. Jill and I might do a day trip to Atlanta for a Saturday afternoon showing of that. When are you going?

GORGEOUS AKL pics! My kids are starting to get into this pin trading thing and DS loved the AKL pin. Does every resort have their own pin?

As usual I am several days late to comment on your latest update. Barely Dis'd at all the past two days. And now I am reading at work and can't see any of your pics. So again, I rely on my vivid imagination.

I am sure your giraffe pics are wonderful. I really enjoyed all of mine and I look at them frequently. Sorry that you never made it back to AK park...poor Chelsea! :rotfl: I hope she got over it. And Connor with his references to the "Evil Sister". Too funny!

Anyway....thanks for the update!

Connor is too, too funny. I bet he was sorely tempted to purchase the skull topped stick after hearing it could ward off evil emanating from sisters.:lmao:

I'd never heard of King Pin. You learn something new every day on the Dis boards. Does he have scheduled appearance times or is he like a greeter?

Wonderful pictures of your giraffe friends. I didn't see eye lashes. Males, you think?

Hi Jackie!! Finally all caught up! I guess it was hot while you guys were there, huh? I don't think we'll ever go during the hottest months... DH was thinking it was a bit too hot in late April/early May. I thought it was nice but he would rather go earlier... I'm trying to convince him that February vacation - this year - would be good. :rolleyes1

I love the AKL! It's amazing that there are giraffes hanging out right there at the resort. :thumbsup2

...then at 3:00 we headed down to Zawadi -- the gift shop -- to trade pins with King Pin.

After pin trading with King Pin, Chelsea decided to buy the special limited edition King Pin pin for her collection.

001-1.jpg

Wow Jackie! I can't believe that I've never heard of King Pin before!! I'm so glad you shared that... I'll keep my eyes out for him in November!!

I love that special pin!!

Kathy

Love the picture of the giraffes Jackie!!! Beautiful shots!!!

Thank you! :goodvibes

Okay I laughed out loud at Connor's conversation with King Pin...how cute!! My sister is "evil" LOL and then King Pin suggesting buying the stick!! LOL!! Priceless!!

I was laughing so hard! I think that is why the pictures look shaky!

Love Chelsea's pin how much fun is that!!!!

I thought it was so cool!

Can't wait to hear more about your dinner at Boma...I would so love to eat there sometime!

It's one of our favorite places to eat!

I am also LOL at Connor's conversation with King Pin. So don't keep us waiting... did he purchase the walking stick??

Wasn't that a great interaction? Nah, Connor never did buy the walking stick.

I feel like I did not spend enough time exploring the lodge. That seals it... I must go back!

Yes, you must!

I don't blame you for not wanting to go back to AK for one ride. Good call. I'm sure Chelsea got over it!

Yes, she did -- about the time we went down to Boma.

Looking forward to hearing about Boma!

I even have pictures!

Oooh, I want a walking stick with a skull on it!

Those are reat giraffe pics. I just love 'em!

Thank you! I know it -- I think I need one of them to carry around certain students! LOL!

Love that conversation between Connor and King Pin! :rotfl: :rotfl: The King Pin pin is very cool!

It was one of my favorite moments!

Hannah and I loved your giraffe pictures. She informed me that if their ears are down that they are sad and if their ears are up they're excited.

I love the way kids think! LOL!

This is from Hannah: :laundy::laundy: I think she's been hanging out with Wigd! LOL :hippie: (also from Hannah!)

Too funny! Hi, Hannah!

cant wait to hear about Boma, we have an ADR there for dinner on December 3rd!

We have eaten there on every trip since 2007, and we love it everytime!

Love, love, LOVE Connor's convo with King Pin! Oh my goodness.

It was hysterical!

You know, when I read your trip report, I literally think, this is what I'm in store for. And I mean that in a totally good way! Don't you just love what your kids come up with? :lmao:

Yes, Chelsea and Connor are always great fun to be around and come up with the funniest things!

Sounds like a nice relaxing afternoon. And even if Chelsea was less than thrilled, I'm with you on this one. I would definitely have wanted to just hang and chill before dinner.

I mean, really. You need to prepare yourselves, mentally for that buffet. Be at peace with all around you so you can consume all your favorites and as many Zebra Domes as humanly possible!!! :goodvibes

LOL! You are so right! And wait until you see the pictures of Chelsea's plates -- she did need to mentally prepare herself!

Love the giraffe photos!

Your children are charming and funny. Evil sisters and skull sticks... :rotfl: I will have to look for the skull sticks in Nov. I can use the excuse I need one for my students (actually I just want one). However, since I teach psych at an inner-city college, I really can use the stick in my lectures when discussing demonology and exorcism during the middle ages.

Thank you! Your reasoning for why you need a skull stick is great!

I have to get to the AKL! It would be so fun to just see the animals, let alone the theming. Night is not the time to visit there... stupid me!

You have lots of chances to experience AKL now -- until 2057, right? ;)

I have never heard of the King Pin! How cute! I love that he has his own special edition pin. :thumbsup2

I love the back and forth between Chelsea and Connor, it so reminds me of my brother and I when we were growing up.

We thought it was very neat that King Pin had his own pin! Love Disney!

My brother and I used to be like that, too! Aren't siblings great! LOL!

These are great AKL and animal pics! King Pin huh? neat! He must have had a few good choices! The shots of the animals were nice, there is such nice detail at the AK.. so with that stick, I guess the warding of "evil" doesn't include whacking someone over the head with it? That would do the trick...

Thank you! Yes, there would probably be a lot of whacking over the head with the skull stick had it come home! So glad it didn't!

AKL is so on my list of resorts to stay at soon. Do you have any more info on this King Pin guy? I mean they have a pin of him in a Goofy sort of way!

I can't wait until we can stay at AKL again! It's truly my favorite resort for so many reasons!

According to the activity sheet we received, King Pin is in Zawadi Marketplace, Monday through Friday at 3:00 for pin trading.

He was telling us that when Disney told him they wanted to do a pin, they asked him what character he wanted -- he chose Goofy because that's his favorite character.

Perhaps this is what my family needs to conquer their fears! LOL!

I believe that would make it an educational expense and therefore tax-deductible!

Good thinking! I wonder what other Disney souvenirs I could purchase for use in my teaching that I can claim as a tax deduction! ;)

Wow you DID get some great shots of the giraffes! I hope we get to see some when we are there in December. Is King Pin out at certain times? It would be fun to do some trading with him too!

Thank you! King Pin is at the Zawadi Marketplace Monday through Friday at 3:00. He was listed on our activity sheet that we received at check-in, so make sure you look at yours. :thumbsup2

I can just hear Connor with his evil comment, he told me the same thing about EE! Did he end up with the walking stick or hang on to his souvie money?

Your kids are going to have such great stories to tell when they are all grown up!

Everything Connor doesn't like tends to be evil! LOL!

He didn't buy the walking stick -- I think he had almost spent all of his souvenir money at that point.

My kids are full of stories! Ha ha!

Conner is such a hoot!:lmao:

I think so, too! :goodvibes

As Chelsea gets older, her abilities to convey her "disgruntledness" will only improve!

My appologies for the last sentence....I'm sure disgruntledness isn't a word and not spelled correctly......I'm an english teacher's nightmare!;)

Chelsea is becoming quite the expert at conveying her "disgruntledness" (even if it isn't a word, I love it)!

BEEautiful pictures of the giraffes! just gorgeous.

thanks for letting me know about mary poppins. i haven't had time to respond over on my TR but i was THRILLED when i read that. i will definitely be there. if you're interested we should do lunch or dinner before or after the show!

Thank you!

Yes, I definitely think we should make plans to meet up for lunch or dinner -- that would be a lot of fun! MeMom and Jill are thinking of coming to Atlanta, too, so a bit closer to buying tickets, we should solidify our plans! I am thinking a picture in front of the Fox of all of us would be great!

:lmao: Connor is too funny! Did he get that stick with the skull?

I think he was out of money!

Pin trading with King Pin sounds like fun. Is he there everyday?

According to the June activity sheet, he was there Monday through Friday at 3:00. Your older nephew would get such a kick out of meeting him!

I love your animal photos are beautiful. I can't wait to see them next summer!!!

Thank you! They are so fun to watch.

Is there such a thing as too many giraffe pictures?

I don't think so!

Loved your update Jackie-it made me smile...:goodvibes...hasn't been too much smiling since...Monday...I want to go back and live in Disney-has anyone ever done that...:confused3

The kids and I talk about how fun it would be to live at Disney all the time!

(The kids just started back to school on Tuesday...Em just started 9th...eek...:scared1: and David started 2nd...after this week is over and every one's nerves are calmed a bit-I know it will be better...but they are both good students and slightly perfectionist and both are bad with transitions...anyway...

Sounds like my two! Hope things are calming down now! :goodvibes

I loved those giraffe pictures...some of their expressions were almost human-like...:goodvibes

I could have watched them for hours!

WE met pin king in August and he wasn't sporting any pins nearly as good as those in your photographs...(he had a lot of the Disney baby series...) and he has his own limited edition King pin pin...how cool is that...?

We thought it was pretty cool -- if Chelsea hadn't decided to buy the King Pin pin, I would have.

hmmm....I didn't know those skull sticks warded off evil...now that could come in handy...I'm thinking we need to go back and get one next time...just another item for the "why we need to go back to WDW" list...:lmao:

Is your list as long as mine? ;)

Oh my goodness how much do I :love:all those giraffe pics.:love: SO great, I even stole one for my background-hope you don't mind. I just have to stay there now.:banana:

Thank you! I am so flattered that you "stole" one for your background! That made my day!

I love all the giraffe pics! :lovestruc

Conor never fails to crack me up! Telling Kingpin that his sister is evil! :lmao: And a couple updates ago when Connor told you he was hallucinating! :rotfl: My kind of kid!

Thank you! Connor is a fun kid to have around -- I am never sure what he is going to come up with next! He has a great sense of humor!

I love the giraffe pix! My favorite of this set though is actually that last flamingo pic! The bird's eye is piercing!

Thank you! I had fun taking all those pictures!

Great updates! I got behind alittle bit but all caught up now!! Can't wait to hear about Boma! The first time I went there, I loved it, last time, wasn't too impressed.

I heart AK! Sounds like it was unbearably hot that day!!! Whew!

Thank you! Sorry to hear about your last experience at Boma -- luckily, we have always had great food there!

I love AK, too, but the heat always seems to leech all energy right out of us!

Great Giraffe pics! They are such beautiful gentle creatures!

Thank you! I absolutely fell in love with giraffes on this trip!

After our night at Boma and exploring the Lodge a bit we fell in love! Definately on my list of a place I have to stay sometime.

AKL truly feels like it is worlds away from the parks!

Connor is too funny with his "my sister is evil" business. Little brothers make me laugh!

Allyson

Me too!

Your pictures are truly beautiful.

Loved the comment Connor made. My youngest Danielle (10) says the same thing about her sister Michelle (19) She refers to her as Evil M. When we spot Malificent she tells her "I just saw you".

Thank you! "Evil M" -- I love it!!! :lmao:

Great update! Love the Giraffes and oh how well I know the showing of tween disgruntledness.

I love the skull sticks!

Thank you! Yes, tween disgruntledness is almost an art form!

oops, sorry

:headache::headache::headache: I think I would prefer to think of them as gentle creatures.....

They would be gentle if they were not fighting over a FEMALE! :worship:

Is Wigd speaking to you yet, Shocker?

Rafting, shopping, and eating sound like a lot of fun!

Heading back to the hotel was definitely the right thing to do!

Thank you! Chelsea has quite the eye for jewelry!

I am really starting to get excited (and panicky) about our Food and Wine trip -- I need to start getting my act together.

I thought the giraffes seemed to be posing, too! LOL!
