Hi,

We will be going on our first trip to the dark side from 9/1 - 9/3, and will be staying at Loews Royal Pacific.:cool1: We have a 7 year old and a five year old. We will probably have the multipark pass, and I'm wondering how close the parks actually are to each other, and how close they are to The Royal Pacific? Also to Citywalk? How long would it take to walk with kids? How long would the boats take? Just trying to get an idea of what we can actually fit it, and trying to make some dining reservations. Thanks in advance for your help!!!:goodvibes

it won't take long to do any of the above.

you can walk from rph to ioa in about 6 minutes.
if the kids are slow walkers, it could be up to 9 minutes.

the walking path from rph empties out in city walk next to margaritaville.

the boats, once they have all onboard, take about 3 minutes to the dock in city walk.

the 2 parks probably would be less than a 5 minute walk from gate to gate.

all the above is an estimate.
depending on the pace of the walker could add time to the numbers above.

Thanks so much for your help! How often do the boats run? Does the same boat make stops at RPH, Citywalk, IOA and Universal in a loop, or do you get off at Citwalk for the parks?

To walk from RPH to Universal, do you have to walk past IOA? If so, I guess that adds on about another 5 minutes or so to the walk?

As you can tell, I am clueless about getting around the dark side! LOL! I appreciate your help!:goodvibes

no, when you get next to margaritaville, that walkway is the path you take to the left to go to ioa.

the boats run about every 20 minutes.
each hotel has it's own boat.

the boat leaves the hotel for the city walk dock.
peeps unload and then those in line can enter the boat.
sometimes the boat captain will hold the boat for 10 minutes to wait for more passengers.

then the boat returns to the hotel.
it's back and forth for the boat captain all day long.

the hotel boat docks are at the individual 3 hotels.
they only transport people back and forth from that hotel to the dock and back.

if you walk from rph to the park on the path, it empties into city walk.
maragaritaville will be on your right side, turn left, walk over the bridge and you will be about one minute to the ioa gate.

if you want to go to the studios, you can walk on either side of the canal to reach that park.

if you are on the boat taxi, it docks in the middle of the canal.
when you get off, walk up the sloped sidewalk on your left to go to the studios.
walk to your right and go up the stairs to head to ioa.
if you walk up the stairs you will be facing margaritaville at the top.

the main walkway from the parking garage leads thru city walk to the parks.

there is a shuttle bus that travels about every 30-45 minutes to the front of the hotels.
the stand is past the studios in the direction of hrh.
it is marked where the wait section for the bus is located.

this bus goes to the front of pbh, hrh and rph.
it is not worth taking except to do it in the evening to view the beautiful hotels lite up at night.
i stay quite a few days onsite and at least one night per trip, i take the shuttle bus just to see the front of the hotels.
it takes me about 40-5 minutes for the total trip.

if you are adventerous and have a lot of time to kill, you can get off at the hotel stop, go inside and look around.
problem is you have to wait for the bus to return again.......

i know there are maps to show the placement of the parks, city walk, hotels, etc.
if i can pull up the link, i will do so for you to help you get an idea of locations before your trip.

Thanks again, macraven, for your very detailed and helpful response. I have a good idea of how to get around now!:) It seems to be so much easier to get around than at Disney. I appreciate it, you're the best!!!!

Oh definitely.

FWIW, it takes us longer to walk along the path, mainly b/c no one wants to be sweaty and icky before even getting to the parks. DH and DS are Washington natives and I've been here basically since I was 17, and none of us are really acclimated to the hot and humid Florida weather. So when Mac says it depends on how fast you walk, yep, it does. :)

Very much so! :)

We also have a 7 year old and choose the walk 80% of the time (especially if you're in tower one as it's closer to the path) even stopping to look at a few flowers and lizards (;)) the walk is 10 minutes or so. You'll stop for a very quick bag check along the way, maybe 30 seconds or so, then right up to the City Walk walkway.

Agree with the PP..We walked it from Portofino Bay ( the furthest of the resorts) with an 8 yr old .It is so much closer and easier to get around then at Disney

Also, I noticed that Universal Orlando's website has a webpage of PDF maps:
