Last August we stayed in the last room on the 2nd floor overlooking the pool, it was a 1BR. We had a window on the left wall of our room (b/c we were the last one) that overlooked the waterway to DHS. So for us, we could go down the steps, out the side door and had a really quick walk to DHS, so much so it would almost have made no sense to go back for the boat. Conversely, our walk to Epcot seemed more time consuming since we had to backtrack through the huge hallways, through the lobby, down the stairs and through the courtyard just to get to the boardwalk.
Point being, with BWV being so big your walking times or convenience to the boats is hard to predict, and definitely will vary depending on where you are. However, either way it's not a huge variable but I would say no, in general it's not quite as close to MK as BLT is. Almost, but not quite.
We have always enjoyed the walk to DHS. It's very serene along the water. It also allows me to justify getting the hot dog with mac-n-cheese, bacon and truffle oil as a reward when I get to DHS!!!
I can tell you that taking the boat in most cases will not be faster (b/c of the multiple stops) than walking, but it can be nice at least on the return trip to rest your legs if you've been walking all day.
Have fun, that area is our favorite. So much to do.
