I am travelling to Orlando from Glasgow airport in August and I am catching the train from Aberdeen to Queen Street Station (Glasgow) the day before. I was wondering if anyone knows the distance between the train station to the airport and how I would go about getting there. We will be staying at The Holiday Inn Express at the airport but I realised I have no idea how to get there, do I take a taxi, bus, train? Bear in mind we will have 3 suitcases, plus hand luggage so the easiest way possible is preferable. We arrive in Glasgow at 13.00 on a Wednesday so the plan is to check into the hotel then come back into the centre to look around and have dinner to start off our vacation:banana:

hi caitlin, i would def. take a taxi from queen st. ,there is no direct train link to the airport, should take about 10-15 mins in a taxi depending on traffic going over the kingston bridge, holiday inn express in a great choice for a pre- night stop, if your flight is early in morning you can nip over to airport, check in, and go back to hotel for breakfast, they start serving about 4.30 am,enjoy:banana:

DH was on a business trip last month and caught train into Queen Street and then a taxi out to the Airport, driver said there was a surcharge for going outside city boundary but even so only cost £20 inc tip and is a 10 mile journey :thumbsup2

....... could also take 45 minutes if the Kingston Bridge traffic is heavy ;) One o'clock on a Wednesday shouldn't be too bad though though I would say that 20 minutes is more likely. I would also suggest you also reconsider your plan to come back into the centre or at least seriously consider the time you wish to head back into the city as the traffic will be horrendous over the Kingston Bridge and particular in the direction you would be going between 3.30 and 6ish. Glasgow is a great way to start your holiday though if you can avoid those hours for travelling - great shops and restaurants. As an alternative you might wish to visit Braehead Shopping Mall just three miles along the motorway from the airport and very easy to get to. It would be an idea maybe to take a look at XScape (if you don't know what it is try googling it - very impressive). This is right next door to Braehead (walkable) and has a good selection of restaurants INCLUDING the new Tony Romas which could get you really into the mood for your holiday.:goodvibes

Oh by the way - a taxi is probably your best method although there are regular airport buses from Buchanan Bus Station and maybe even from Queen Street.

Have a great holiday.:thumbsup2

I just discovered more info about airport buses.

Arriva Scotland West will operate a high frequency bus service (GlasgowFlyer - service 500) from Glasgow Airport to Glasgow City Centre via the M8 motorway.

The GlasgowFlyer, which will be introduced on Monday 9 July 2007. The service will operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, with eight buses an hour at peak times.

To cater for all its customers' needs Arriva is offering a wide ticket choice, with a single costing £3.95, £5.95 for a return, £6.30 for an open return and for the more frequent flyer a 10 journey ticket costing £28.

I believe they include Glasgow Central and Queen Street as stopping points on the way to Buchanan Street Bus station.

I hope this helps. Sounds just as convenient as a taxi really.:)

I used the 905 bus service to and from Glasgow Airport. It is an express service and was excellent! Only cost about £3-95 each way or cheaper if you get a return. Also because it is an airport bus there is plenty of storage space for luggage.

Was as good as a taxi!

I stopped at the Travel Lodge (on Airport) on the night before flying. I asked the bus driver if she stopped at the Travelodge. Although she didn't she dropped me off there anyway! What excellent service.
If you want to save yourself the price of taxis, use this service.

Here is a link to the timetable

Any information on travel from Glasgow Central Station to the Airport would be gratefully recieved we will be arriving by train and did not think about getting from there to airport 2 adults and 2 children, the coach sounds like a good deal, do you need to pre-book a time slot, and what if your train is late can you use the next coach.

Thanks

IT's not a coach it's a regular bus express shuttle service between the centre of Glasgow/Rail Stations and the airport. The bus has been adapted to give plenty of storage space for luggage.

I have posted the link to the timetable above. If you look at that you will see that it operates between 6am and midnight. at peak times there is a bus every 10 minutes. You cannot say better than that!

Obviously with your family it may not be that much more to get a taxi?
