Hi Everyone - we are in the process of booking our second cruise with DCL for April 2017. We will be staying at Caribe Royale for a week prior to the cruise to do WDW.

Is anyone able to help me with the distance from this hotel to the port (Port Carn) for the cruise? Trying to work out transfers etc so not sure if we should do the Disney Shuttle or organise our own transfers from the hotel to the port.

TIA

Well, it's pretty close to WDW, about 60 miles, more or less about an hour's travel.

I don't believe you can use the Disney Cruise transfer from a non Disney resort. But I would agree, it is an hour to get to the port and if you rent a car that you will be dropping off, add in another hour just to be safe. Now we have done the car rental four times, a car service once and DCL transfer BACK, twice. We like the rental car best because it was cheapest and we controlled the time.

Well, maybe the OP can get a shuttle from the hotel to MCO, and catch the DCL shuttle there. I think they are just comparing costs/trip time to make a decision.

Caribe Royal is right on the main road to get onto the 417 toll road. Take 417 N to 528 Beach Line and follow it all the way to the port.
You are looking at about 45 to 55 minutes drive time but build in extra time to stop and pay tolls. (There are quite a few on 417 from the hotel)

The hotel is in a good location and fairly close to WDW and as long as you avoid Vineland road you should be able to get around pretty quickly. :)

Thank you Princess Shmoo - I didnt think of this. Is this possible - to get a shuttle to a WDW resort and then get the Disney shuttle to port from their?
I didnt think think I could do this and havent thought of this idea as I am not staying at a WDW resort for the disney shuttle to port.

You would not be able to take a DCL transfer from Caribe Royal. You would have to get private transportation to a WDW hotel or to MCO. I would opt to MCO as those buses to the port leave much earlier. The WDW buses to the port don't leave the resorts until about 11-12:30 depending on the resort (no set schedule...WDW resort guests usually find out the night before via a letter what time to meet their bus). Also, I do not know for sure if you need to be a WDW resort guest to use the DCL bus to the port.

I would suggest seeing if Caribe Royal has a shuttle to the airport and you could get the DCL shuttle bus to the port from there. DCL transfers start leaving MCO about 9:15-9:30. Either way the DCL bus will cost you $35 pp. It is not complimentary.

Another option is a rental car. The drive is VERY easy to the port from Caribe Royal.

No, you can't catch the DCL bus from a WDW resort, unless you are staying at the resort. You can, however, take a shuttle from the Caribe to MCO (airport) if they have one, or use a taxi. At MCO you can catch the DCL transfer bus.

Taking a private limo or town car direct from caribe will be much more convenient than going to the airport and taking a Disney bus. If you have 3 or more people, it'll probably be cheaper as well, but even with two, I'd take a black car over the Disney bus any time. The cheapest is a rental car one way, but that's not quite as quick and convenient.
