Cast: Me (45), DW (45) and DD (13)
My 27th visit, DW's 20th, DD's 15th
We arrived today for the start of our first-ever 2-week Disney trip. We drove from NJ and left home at 1:45pm Friday. We made terrible travel time yesterday. First, there was a huge back-up getting through Delaware, in part due to an accident that had a lane closed and in part just due to lousy traffic in DE. That's a problem we've had before. Driving through Delaware is getting to be impossible.
We stopped for the night in Selma, NC (exit 97 on I-95) at the Holiday Inn Express. We were a little annoyed with them because we called from the road after picking up the coupon book at the welcome center and they wouldn't make a reservation to hold a room. They said they had 8 rooms and to just come in. I was afraid they'd fill the rooms before we got there or not honor the coupon rate, but there was no trouble when we pulled in. They had rooms and honored the coupon. The hotel looked reasonably new and was in nice condition. Breakfast was fine (though the cinnamon rolls weren't warm).
We got back on the road at 8:25am this morning and made much better time today. Except for hitting some heavy downpours in Georgia and parts of Florida, it was smooth sailing and we pulled into our rental home in Lindfields at about 6pm.
After doing some initial unpacking and relaxing briefly, we hopped back into the car and headed over to Sweet Tomatoes at Crossroads for dinner. We've eaten at the Kirkmann Rd location several times but this was our first time here. It was excellent, as always. They really do a great job at a great price. I think for $9.59/person it is easily one of the best food values around. I only wish they would build one in NJ near home.
We finished the day with a stop at Publix for some perishable stuff that we didn't bring from home (milk, OJ, eggs, yogurt, etc.). Publix was packed and this was 8pm on Saturday night.
Finished unpacking and got online and here I am.
Tomorrow we are going to sleep in and do some non-park stuff, probably DTD, hit one of the Disney outlets, whatever - just ease into vacation instead of hitting the ground running like usual. With 2 weeks instead of our usual 1, we figure we can slow the pace a bit.
More to come...
