Disney Resort Package Delivery Policy- November 2016 "Please note that a $5 per package handling fee may apply to all packages that are received through the Front Desk or are delivered to your Disney Resort hotel room." https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/guest-services/mail-services/ So far, we have not received reports from guests that this fee has been assessed at the Yacht & Beach Resort. A guest who had a packaged shipped (to the front desk) in early December was not charged the fee. It does not appear that this fee is being charged for actual deliveries from places like Garden Grocer, Amazon Now (not Prime), stroller rentals, etc. Please note that this is different from the weight-based handling charge if your package is delivered by UPS or FedEx to the convention center. See the FAQ Posts 13 and 14 on this page for more info. Garden Grocer Delivery Changes Starting mid-Sept 2016 Delivery changes to Disney’s Beach Club Resort, Disney’s Beach Club Villas, and Disney’s Yacht Club Resort. Moving forward they will only be delivering to these resorts during the hours of 4:30pm-5:30pm. ALL orders placed before these changes will now be delivered between the hours of 4:30pm-5:30pm. Mosquito Control, Aug 2016 Here's the rundown on the bug spray being handed out at Disney parks and resorts in Florida provided by the World of Yesterday, Tomorrow and Fantasy website/Facebook page, August 29, 2016: "Resort guests will receive a bottle in their resort room on check-in day. There are stations set up throughout the parks and Disney Springs where guests (both onsite and offsite) can spray down with the spray. The bottles at those stations stay at those stations, guests cannot take them when they leave the bug-spray station." Teena's Retirement, January 2016: After working for Disney for more than 10 years, Teena the Beach Club greeter retired on Monday January 25. She moved to Las Vegas to live with her daughter Jeanne and her precious granddaughter Lily. For many of us, the Beach Club lobby will never be the same without the enthusiastic greeting and warm smile from our friend. Here's the link to a thread where you can post pictures, stories or just words of thanks and encouragement. The work was expected to start in late October, but an article in the Orlando Sentinel seems to indicate the renovation has been delayed again, now slated for Jan 2017. See link to the article below. Oct 11, 2015: Work on club level lounge commenced. YC Presidential Suite temporarily used for lounge offerings Dec 13, 2015: Newly refurbished and expanded YC Club Level lounge opens Beach Club Villas Started January 2016, Completed September 2016 Beach Club Resort Started October 2014, Completed August 2015 All Beach Club rooms have been renovated and are open for occupancy Yacht Club Convention Center- October 2016 Per Orlando Sentinel: "Yacht & Beach Club Resort plans to expand its convention space with an additional 25,000 square feet. That will bring total convention space at the resort to 100,000 square feet. Reedy Creek, the Disney-controlled taxing district, filed a permit application with the South Florida Water Management District this week for the work. Construction will also include additional parking space across Epcot Resorts Boulevard. Plans show the convention space being expanded to the north, where there is now a parking area. The work will start next month and be finished in spring of 2018." We don't expect this to have a big impact as far as disruptions to guests in their rooms, but it may result in inconvenience to drivers because there will be fewer parking spaces available at the resort. ******************************************************* Yacht Club- Work on the Regatta Club, the YC Club Level lounge, started on October 11, 2015 and finished in mid December. This construction notice appeared on the Disney reservation booking website on August 1, 2016 We have received information (not from Disney) suggesting that the renovation of the Yacht Club rooms will not be starting until late October. Some guests with reservations at the BC (and maybe YC) in November and December have been given the option to "upgrade" to other resorts due to an oversell situation at the resort. Resort changes to Animal Kingdom Lodge and Grand Floridian have been offered. It has not been announced whether the work will proceed from top floor to bottom floor as the Beach Club was done or wing by wing like the recent BCV rehab. Renovation dates were originally scheduled for August 21, 2016-July 14, 2017 according to a notice appearing on Disney reservation page, mid May 2016. However, the notice disappeared sometime in June. Here's a link to some photos from the new lounge, posted by focusondisney Renovated Yacht Club Concierge Lounge, December 2015 With a renovation at the Yacht Club expected to start in fall 2016, there is a lot of concern with the condition of rooms at the resort. Here is a link to Post 16 on this thread where I have some threads and reviews addressing this question from recent guests of the YC. Post 16: Photos, Videos, Trip Reports & Links to Closed Threads ************************************************************* General Resort Renovation News: About every five years the halls and rooms of EVERY resort at WDW get renovated. There are two types. Soft goods and hard goods. Last time the Beach and Yacht Clubs underwent renovation (2008/2009) it was a soft goods rehab. Renovations on the outside (painting, siding, roofing and all maintenance) are done as needed. The refurbishment at the Yacht and Beach Club Resort will be a hard goods renovation. Rooms will be stripped down and everything from new sinks, new air conditioning units, new everything will be added except the maybe the TVs since they are fairly new. We do not have a timetable about how long it will take to complete each section of the resort. The work will be completed with the least amount of disruption possible to guests. Sections of rooms will be taken out of service while the renovations are taking place. All noise work is done between 9AM and 5PM (when people are at the pool or at the parks). Chances are guest won't really see the areas where work is happening. From June 2015- A guest with a July trip to the BC received the following notice View attachment 104031 The furniture in the Beach Club lobby just received new upholstery (Summer 2014?) and I think new carpets were added, so at this time, we do not believe a refurbishment of the lobby is part of this renovation. Stormalong Bay: We have not heard anything about a major pool rehab being part of this renovation. Normal pool maintenance at Stormalong Bay happens in the winter, with 1/3 of the pool worked on at a time, with the remaining 2/3 remaining open. This is done almost every year, but I don't remember anyone discussing maintenance on the pool last winter. Maintenance work on the Jib Slide/outlet pool was completed in January and work on the Lazy River was completed in early March. Guests at the resort in early March are reporting that the slide and the lazy river areas are now both open. See POST 2 on this page for more info about Stormalong Bay and the winter maintenance work. What is the scope of the work at the resort? There is a recent blog post circulating about the upcoming renovation at the Beach Club. It references a 20 month project. Based on previous renovations, I think that this 20 month estimate is more likely to be the timeframe for the entire renovation at BOTH BC and YC- perhaps 10 months to a year for each resort. The article also references the renovation work at the Poly but the work at the Beach and Yacht Club is nowhere near the scope of the construction/destruction of the Poly villas or the lobby renovation that is happening there. Here is a great post comparing the renovations planned at Y&BC to the work at the Poly: We have not heard anything about a major pool rehab being part of this renovation, however some sections of the Stormalong Bay will be closed for normal winter maintenance in January and February 2015- see the second post in this thread (SAB) for more details. We do not have an official estimate of the timetable or completion date for the YC resort refurbishment at this time. We have not received an official date from the resort. *************************************************** Beach Club: Insert Beach Picture Yacht Club: Insert Lighthouse Picture What are the differences between the Beach Club and the Yacht Club? The Beach Club and Yacht Club are similar resorts in terms of service and amenities, and have equal access to the shared pool complex, health club and video arcade. Both resorts have the same management team in place. Some minor differences have been noted by guests: Beach Club- club level lounge renovated in 2014, room renovations completed in August 2015 Lighter, beachy decor in lobby and rooms Lobby can be active and lively with families waiting for meals at Cape May Closer to EPCOT and Marketplace Gift Shop/Quick Serve Dining Approximately 50% of rooms in all room categories have full balconies. The remaining are standing balconies. Room Amenities include carpets on floor, ceiling fans, Cuisinart Pod Coffee Makers Yacht Club- renovations to club level lounge started October 2015, room renovations completed in June 2017 Darker woods and nautical decor in lobby and rooms Lobby is more serene Convention attendees are more likely to be booked at YC Closer to Hollywood Studios and Friendship Boats Most rooms have a full balcony Room Amenities include wood floors, lots of storage units, Keurig coffee makers. No ceiling fans in rooms following the rehab. Want more details about the differences between the two resorts? Check out this awesome blog post (November 2011) from The World of Deej: The World of Deej: BC vs. YC Pixarmom's comparison of BC and YC Resort Map: ********************************************************************* TRANSPORTATION Bus Service: Motorcoach transportation is available to Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, Downtown Disney, Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach. effective Fall 2015, there are afternoon buses to front of EPCOT Boat Service: Water launch is available to Epcot and Disney's Hollywood Studios, Disney's Boardwalk, and the Swan and Dolphin Resorts. Each boat makes the full circuit. EPCOT Int Gateway -> Boardwalk Inn -> Yacht & Beach Club (shared dock) -> Swan & Dolphin (shared dock) -> Disney Hollywood Studios Disney Hollywood Studios-> Swan & Dolphin -> Yacht & Beach Club -> Boardwalk Inn -> EPCOT International Gateway The Yacht & Beach Club boat dock was closed for refurbishment in March 2011 but is now open again. Walking is also an option to DHS and Epcot! The walk to Epcot takes about 5-10 minutes depending on your pace. The walk to DHS will take you a little longer but it is a beautiful walk! The distance from the Beach Club to Hollywood Studios is a little over a mile. Shortcut near BW pool area: From the BW to HS: Walk past the surrey bike rental kiosk on your left and friendship boat loading docks on your right. Take your first left [just before the ScreenDoor store] past Wyland Galleries and then your first right which will bring you to the Luna (Clown pool). Veer to the left around the Clown pool and you'll run right in to the walkway to HS. On the way back from HS, you'll see the Clown pool rollercoaster waterslide and there will be an entrance to the pool area on the backside of the slide. This shortcut will save approx. 1/4 mile or 5 minutes. Alternatively, you can access the path by walking all the way to the end of the Yacht Club and crossing the bridge there. Here's a map created by Robo that explains the walking paths from DHS to Epcot, and places in between, illustrated in colorful detail: Thanks, Robo, for permitting me to post this extremely helpful picture! Here is one more map, showing the EPCOT Resort area and walking/running distances around Crescent Lake: Bus board at BC bus stop, April 2016: Early Morning Buses - it is difficult to find definitive answers about what time the morning buses to the theme parks start and how often they arrive at the resort bus stop. One morning, I went out to the Beach Club bus stop at 6:30 to see when buses came . The buses I saw while I was there were 6:30 MK, 6:52 AK, 6:54 MK, 7:06 AK MK opened at 9 am, AK was early EMH at 8 am You can read about that here: Sunday August 30 - Bus Stop Babe New bus routes are being introduced for the Walt Disney World water parks, May 29, 2016. Guests will need to take a bus to Disney Springs to get to Typhoon Lagoon from a resort. After 1:00pm, guests will need to transfer to a different bus at Disney Springs. Before 1:00, they will remain on the same bus. For guests traveling to Blizzard Beach, they will need to take a bus to Animal Kingdom and then transfer to a new bus there. Disney-sponsored Minnie Vans- service launched August 2017 According to Disney Signature Service: "The new Minnie Van service will operate from 6:30 AM- 12:30 AM daily. Once enrolling into the service with one of the Cast Members, you will be able to reserve the service through a mobile app. Upon arrival Cast Members at bell services will be able to provide you with additional information regarding this service*. The Minnie Van can accommodate up to 6 guests and are currently priced at $20. Please note this information and pricing is subject to change as we have just begun to test this service. We look forward to having more additional information to share soon!" * It appears that you need to add an app for a Lyft-type service to your smart phone. Guests have been receiving pop-up in their My Disney Experience accounts to assist them in activating an account. Tipping is not permitted Additional info Blog Post about Minnie vans Taxi Cabs are readily available to guests and can be hailed by one of the valet CMs outside of the Yacht or Beach Club lobby front entrances, however... If you are traveling directly from the Y&BC to MK, the Disney bus will take you directly to the front entrance of the park, but if you drive, or take a taxi cab, you must park/get out at the TTC and either use the express monorail or ferry boat to get to the park Phone Number for Mears Taxi: (407) 422-2222 Here is one website link to help you determine the estimated cabfare from point to point during your trip: Taxi Fare Finder Uber Info: (To Be Added) As with any Disney resort, travel to and from DTD can be torturous. We have not found the buses TO DTD to be all that bad but we HATE the buses that return from DTD to BC. The trip takes forever since the buses often stop at a water park, or change drivers, or make dropoffs at all of the EPCOT resorts, or all of the above. And the DTD return buses are always crowded. Always. To avoid frustration, my family usually takes a boat to one of the DTD resorts, then a bus to EPCOT, where we enjoy a few attractions before returning to our BC room. It really breaks up the travel. Note: Park Hoppers required. I describe this method in great detail at the end of the FAQ post. Alternatively, a taxi back to the BC would probably be around $20 including tip, and worth every penny! IMHO, taking a taxi TO Typhoon Lagoon is also a good call, since the buses make DTD stops before going to the waterpark. *********************************************************************** For really cool aerial views of the resort, check out this BING map application: Aerial Map of Beach Club Resort picture provided by littlewhiterabbit ******************************************************** Stormalong Bay Pool and Flying Jib Slide Stormlong Bay is a beachside water park that offers up 3 acres of aquatic fun for the whole family.
