Resort Thread Disney's PORT ORLEANS FRENCH QUARTER Resort

We're here now on a last minute trip. Long story short. My daughter is starting with Disney Monday and I helped her drive down. As DVC member I looked for a studio, but none were available, so we used points to stay here. It's my first trip where I didn't have any time to do any research. Never stayed here before. We won't be doing the parks, so are there any critical tips I should know about?

I am also very excited for the Hollywood & Vine lunch with Doc McStuffins, Sophia the First and Jake. My 3 year old is going to LOVE them, I hope, since she loves their shows.

This silly lady who watches way too much Disney Jr had breakfast at H&V in February and it was one of the highlights of my trip! The characters are great, they play Disney Jr music, and every so often they'll do a Dis Jr song and let the kids get up and dance along. I think your little girl will love it. :)

Chiming in on the bus stop discussion - when I was there in February, there was a CM working the MK/DHS station who was organizing us into lines (I thought of him as the "Bus Boss" - I don't mean that negatively). That was the first time I had experienced that. In my experience last year, everyone just stood/sat around until they saw their bus coming then kind of formed up randomly - but there were never so many people at the time that you wouldn't make it onto the bus.

Great thread with excellent advice and information thanks! We are staying in POR 1st 2 weeks of July. I know it will be exceptionally busy but school holidays don't allow differently. A question for my intrigue and from your experience so not looking for a direct answer just a guess...
There are 3 of us myself DH and DD (6) we had booked a pool view room with TA but MDE says a standard room - given peak season and our small numbers which area do you guess we might be given?
Unsure if I'll fax to request a certain room/area or leave it up to luck and pixie dust!

Ignore this - posted to wrong thread! Should be POR and don't know how to delete! French Quarter fab though stayed there many years ago and loved it! Just enjoy! Seriously, that's all you'll need to know.

We've got a lunch reservation here in July. Looking forward to it - probably more so than DD-4 and DS-2

I just called this morning to book our first stay at the POFQ. I am so excited! We are going during my hubby's R&R. We originally planned on going to DW in December after his deployment is over and changed it on a whim. I booked a River view room and made a few dining reservations today. We weren't able to get Chef Mickey's unless we wanted dinner at 9pm (no thanks, lol) or Cinderella's Royal Table but I did get dinner at 1900 PF in its place. I am also very excited for the Hollywood & Vine lunch with Doc McStuffins, Sophia the First and Jake. My 3 year old is going to LOVE them, I hope, since she loves their shows.

I retuned recently from my first stay at FQ. You will love it! It will be perfect for your DHs R&R,

I want to thank your husband for serving our country and also give my thanks to you for all the sacrifices you both do so he can serve,

If you want to go to Chef Mickeys try shoeing up right when we open. We did that once and got seatwd right away. I think they open for dinner around 5 so show up around 430

The 1900 park Faire will be a great replacement for the xcastle, another choice might be the lunch or dinner in Epcot in Norway, we did that one this trip and really liked it, it had all the princesses just like Cinderelkas castle it is Akersaurs

I am taking my dad for his birthday in April. I had us booked at AKL but he called me last night and said he really wanted POFQ. Since he's the birthday boy, I made the switch. :) I have stayed at POFQ before and liked it and I think he'll like the smaller size( he's 69).

I think you made the right choice. The resort is beautiful and peaceful and all close together.

Thanks! H&V sounds like it will be a lot of fun. I did grab a dinner reservation at Akershus as it is my favorite meal. I know it isn't everyone's cup of tea but I love the Traditional Kjottkaker and of course the Princess interaction. It looks like we have plenty of other meals with Mickey and will just miss Minnie but we'll see her at the parks.

Stupid question, but is there enough space to park a scooter inside the room? We love the look of the room, but also need space to charge the scooter at night. We liked CBR because there was tons of space and Mum could drive right in and park by the air conditioning unit.

We had room for a pack-n-play by the door, and a full size jogging stroller that we kept under the hanging clothes, if you think those are close in size for comparison.

I'm sure this has been asked a thousand times but can someone post a few pic.'s of the new fridge.s in the POR rooms? And how about what size are they? Thank you! This is the best tread on the boards!!!!:goodvibes

Can anyone comment on the gluten-free beignets? I am breaking up with wheat again after a whole day of serious GI discomfort and was excited to learn this week that these are an option. I totally realize that being GF doesn't make these healthy, I just want to know if I'm going to be disappointed by the texture or if they've actually made this work? I'm used to beignets being wonderfully doughy, and that's exactly a strong point with GF goods. ;-) Thanks for all opinions!

Hmm, I don't know how different a pack-n-play is in size to the scooter, but thanks. As long as we can get it in close to a plug and charge it. Don't suppose there's enough space by the table and chairs, as that's what we did at CBR?

You might be able to shuffle things around, but beside the beds is the most obvious place so I'd bring an power extension cord just to be on the safe side.

First, that is not a stupid question.

All moderate rooms are the same size. The only difference would be the bed size. When you stayed at CBR, the beds were full (double) and the beds at the other mods are queens. Queens are 6 inches wider and 5 inches longer than full so you would have a tiny bit less usable floor space.

Actually rooms at CBR are larger than the other three moderates. The rooms at CBR are 340 square feet and the rooms at POR, POFQ, & CSR are 315 square feet.

I had a scooter in a 2nd floor room and it was fine. I parked it by the AC unit. My only issue was that it was hard for me to get in and out the door. (probably my issue!) I will say that while renting the scooter from outside the park was better for getting around the resort, I HATED the bus system! We always drive so I am used to getting where we need to go quickly. All in all, I have to get used to it or buy my own scooter. POFQ is our favorite resort, I think you'd find the room size OK. Have fun!
