Resort Thread Disney's PORT ORLEANS FRENCH QUARTER Resort

I think Disney should just had pre-packaged food and not allow ordered food during the park closing. You would still have people gripping but I believe that would have cut the wait times drastically. I also blame the customers, its not like they did not know about Matthew coming, its not like a tornado that just shows up. I would have went down a day before to grab food and snacks to keep in our room fridge. But it's like you mentioned, some will be okay and some won't. Hindsight is always 20/20:)

Good points. We didn't even bother with the boxed food Disney offered. We were at Epcot so we went to the bakery in Norway and got a sandwich and some snacks for the rest of the day and breakfast the next morning. Then we ate in Italy right as the park was closing, with the plan to bring back left over pizza. DH will eat it cold (some things from college you never outgrow, right ;) )
So we didn't have to rely on them for food while things were closed. So there were options outside of the boxes, that's for sure. You just had to take a bit of initiative for your own needs

I have to disagree with some of what you said. We were in the parks from rope drop until closing as were a lot of other people so not a lot of time to watch the news. Thankfully my daughter at home kept us up to date on the forecasts because Disney certainly didn't. A lot of people had never gone through a hurricane before and weren't sure what to do. Most people did not have a car to run to Walmart and stock up. Thursday morning I was told by the front desk that everything (parks, food court and so on) would be running on a normal schedule and nothing would close and "Disney won't let you starve". When I asked about getting food and a flashlight I was told that we would be given a flashlight and there was no need to buy food because the food court would be open (no mention of how to get there walking from the back of the resort during a hurricane). Later Thursday they did leave a message on the room voicemail about the boxed lunch and that you might want to get food somewhere before returning to the resort. But you didn't hear this message until returning to the resort! We did buy lunch meat and bread, chips and dip at the Poly and we had lots of snacks. The lines at the food court were because people trusted Disney when they said nothing was closing. And when they changed their minds it was too late for people to do anything but get food in the food court. Friday the lines for food was very manageable.

I understand that Disney did not want to cause a panic or close anything if it didn't need to be. But I think they handled the whole thing poorly. Total miss/non communication.

That said the staff at FQ were great. They were friendly and helpful. They did the best they could in a difficult situation. Friday the arcade was free, there were characters in the lobby, coloring for the kids and a dance party.

Very excited to be heading back to POFQ for a long weekend in December. It's my mom's first stay, and I'm excited to show the place to her!

I'm guessing there might be a few new items, such as Make-Your-Own Pasta, but the basic idea will remain the same.

Yay! This makes me happy. Last trip we went all the way to Riverside just to get make your own pasta. Would love to be able to get it at French Quarter.

Are hot tub hours still not officially enforced? Just looking for a quiet way to relax once I get back late at night.

Ok stupid newbie to resorts question. I've seen the myo pasta mentioned at a couple of food courts. What are the options. It definitely sounds like an interesting option. Is it a choice of sauces (ie marinara, carbonara, meat sauce)?

Edit: never mind, just googled and OMGosh YUM!!

Yep! I made my 2 teenage cousins walk to Riverside after spending an entire day walking in Epcot just so I could have it for dinner! I'm not sure how happy they were with me, but I didn't care because I was eating yummy alfedo!

What exactly are they doing with the food court? Is it just a minor refurb, or are they changing it completely?
It is a complete overhaul. We just got back today. Right now there is a temp location QS in the old TS Bonfamille's and plus at breakfast a grab n go in Scat Cat's lounge.

Did it look anywhere near completion? We are checking in the Friday after Thanksgiving which is close to the expected finish date.

Really couldn't see too much. They had drywall up and light fixtures hanging (covered up in plastic). They had the windows covered so we only got a glimpse through a door they were using.

Thanks for the additional information!

Soooo my wife and I are planning on shopping at Disney Springs on the day we check out... We have like a 4 hour wait time for our flight... Will POFQ hold on to our luggage. How does that work on the day we leave

If you are using the DME & your airline is one of the ones you can do the baggage checkin you can take the bags down there after 5:00am (desk is open 5 to noon ). Otherwise just take them to bell services and they will hold them.

Thanks its amazing the stupid logistical things you come up with

Andre,
Thanks for the November Recreation Calendar!

Just wondering - will Riverside (or PORFQ?) have any special events for Thanksgiving? We've been at Riverside for Labor Day and 4th of July and they always have something fun going on.
