Disney's POLYNESIAN VILLAGE RESORT Information & Questions

Checked out this morning. This was my second stay. I loved it even more then my first stay (if that's even possible). Last night, we couldn't tear ourselves away from the place to go to Epcot.
We will definitely be back next year!
I'm kind of disappointed we didn't spend more time at the resort.
We planned midday breaks but it seemed every time we decided to swim it was raining or storming.

We were there for four nights and it was rainy/overcast the entire time, but thankfully there was no lightning so the pool didn't close. :)

For those who have stayed in the Poly Standard room: is the blowdryer connected to the wall or is it a real blowdryer? Would rather not pack mine if I can save the weight.

I stayed in Rarotonga longhouse last week and hair dryer was in bag on bathroom counter. There was also a light up make-up mirror which could be pulled out from wall mount.

It was the same in our room. I loved that make up mirror.

We are 52 days from our stay at the Poly. Yay! Our party is DH, DD(5), DS(7), my FIL, MIL, BIL, and me. What's your experience with watching the MK Fireworks from Poly? Now that HEA has the castle projections, is it something that you just really need to see from in the park? My issue is that the other adults in our group will NOT be okay with finding a spot an hour before the show. So, we probably wouldn't end up with a prime viewing spot. They also won't be too excited about exiting with so many people. We also will be attending MNSSHP and will get a chance to see those fireworks.

Is it a decent show from Poly? Or perhaps we just need to stay in park but stay toward the park entrance?

We check in the same day as you!:yay:

Three more days. I'm just restless at this point. Tomorrow is our last day at home. Friday we are driving closer to the airport and staying with my brother. We fly out super early Saturday morning. My to do list is eight miles long but at the same time I am just like "OK, forget all of that, let's just go!" I have been 95% packed since last weekend. :)

I am getting so excited--in 55 days we check in for our first Poly stay! Everything is really starting to come together: ADRs and FPs made, stroller rented, oasis patios booked, surprise cupcakes ordered, Hawaiian themed outfits for our arrival day purchased, surprise souvenirs purchased for the girls. I am just getting so excited and wanted to share with people who would "get" it!:yay:

I love the Hawaiian outfit idea! We might have to do that for our December trip!

People try to secure their viewing spot hours before. In order to get the full experience, you do need to be in front t of the castle. We saw it once. The rest of our stay, we enjoyed the fireworks from the Poly beach and LOVED every second of it!!! What I don't like about the new show is this: I am 5'2". Just about any adult standing in front of me blocks my view and if they don't, the person in front of him will. I was only able to see 1/2 of the castle and that was very cool!!!!! We enjoyed intimacy of the Poly beach more than trying to exit the park with thousands of your closest friends. We were there in May. Next trip, next May, we may try the Plaza dessert party and see how that goes.

This was just our experience and many others have many different opinions and experiences. The castle show is uber cool if you can swing it.

I know people who were able to grab a last minute spot on the Tomorrowland walkway (not the bridge, but between Stitch and where the dessert party is located) and have a pretty decent, uncrowded view of the castle.

Any tips (or links I can pull up that has tips) for choosing a room? We are a party with 3 rooms. Need one room to have double queens and would prefer King bed for the other. Doesn't matter for the 3rd room. Would like connecting, if possible. Traveling with young kids, so proximity to pool and transportation is more important than view. Any suggestions?

@CuteAsMinnie - Thanks so much for the feedback on HEA!! I literally almost pulled the trigger on buying a dessert party reservation, but times 7 people it just seemed like too much. Especially when we're already staying at Poly and doing MNSSHP! I am so torn - the show sounds so great!! But, my group would also be pretty grumpy about the amount of time to stake out a spot + the intensity of crowds. Hmmm.... Lots to think about! Thanks again for your advice!

It's been a few days since we got home but I wanted to report back on our latest Poly CL stay. We were there 3 nights 8/25-8/28. It was definitely not long enough!

We booked GV CL and got the third floor Hawaii room we requested. Our room (3525) was ready around 1:30pm on our check in day. It was fairly far down the hall from the lounge but we didn't mind the walk and the view of the Oasis pool from our balcony was lovely.

Housekeeping was efficient. One morning, we went to the pool at 7:30am and returned at 8:30am to our room already cleaned. The next day, our room was cleaned closer to 3:00pm but that didn't bother us.

Food and drinks in the CL lounge were as we remembered from our December trip. All the CMs we encountered were friendly and helpful. We did notice that some families were more oblivious than others in terms of their impact on fellow guests, but that's not the fault of the Poly; that could happen anywhere. The CMs were actively clearly tables throughout each food service period.

We loved the Oasis pool and spent part of each day there; while DS 5 liked the water slide at the Lava pool, it was much more crowded overall. We bounced back and forth between the pools several times.

We did not go to any of the restaurants at the Poly this trip, except Trader Sam's, which we hit twice with minimal waits (<25 min both times). We also let DS try Lilo's Playhouse one night, which he LOVED.

Transportation was smooth with excellent boat service and no monorail issues. We've encountered slow downs previously so we know we were lucky this time with how flawless it was.

My only one small complaint is that the smoking area for that end of the resort appears to have been moved to right next to the Oasis pool gate closest to Hawaii longhouse. This meant a slight smell of cigarette smoke when the breeze drifted it toward the pool. I've not yet received my post-trip survey from Disney but when I do I plan to bring this up.

We enjoyed every moment of our stay and are now considering when we can return. We have a trip planned for Yacht Club in November but I'm seriously eying the Poly for late February/early March.

Please forgive my ignorance, but thinking of booking Poly for at least part of our Honeymoon next summer. I'm reading about the change to a pool/marina category, and was wondering, does this include views of the Oasis Pool and Volcano Pool, or just the Volcano Pool? If it were both, that'd be really limiting Poly standard view rooms, which was a nice perk of both the Poly and GF, in that when booking standard rooms, you have a pretty good shot at getting a really nice view!
TIA

Hi Scott, I just upgraded to a pool/marina view for my visit this coming April 2018. I called guest relations to inquire which longhouses it included. They contacted Poly directly, and let me know it includes Samoa and Fiji. I didn't ask if it was both sides of Samoa (Volcano and Oasis pool). I had assumed it was for all of Samoa and the marina side of Fiji.

I'm going to call Poly directly and see what I can find out. I'll let you know :)

Just checked in today! We didn't get a room alert via email or text and when we got to the resort at 10pm it still wasn't showing in MDE. We did however get 3rd floor Fiji overlooking the grand Floridian and LOVE the location -in case you were wondering we are booked for standard room... we did do a request for 3rd floor Samoa or Fiji on touring plans and picked balcony during online check in! Very happy so far! Excited to spend the next 6 nights here!
