Thanks so much for the "cabana" pics! We reserved one for next Friday afternoon. I cannot wait to stay at the Poly!!!

Have a great time! We'll be there in 353 days...sigh. We are also hoping to reserve some shade. I've seen these called "poolside patios" on the WDW site. I think that's a better name since people seem to associate drink service, closed sides for privacy, televisions, etc. with cabanas. I'm glad DisneyDad posted such clear pictures so we know what we're getting - and I'm happy without the luxuries of the GF cabanas (not that those don't look nice - maybe on a trip that is just husband and me!)

HAHA! Yes, Poolside Patio is a better term for sure.

FWIW, in my experience there is usually an attendant walking around the Oasis Pool taking drink/food orders. They aren't dedicated to the "patios" but they will certainly service them. It's sort of silly because the food/bar is literally right there across the pool, but sometimes the drinks do taste better when you don't have to get up. :cool2:

How much are the poolside patios to reserve?

@Gizmo74 ours was around 70$ for a whole day, I can't remember if we were able to use any discounts. I'd suggest getting there as early as possible to get the center "cabana" which is a little larger and has better shade coverage than the others.

There was no clear spot to check in the Front Desk sent us to the Marina, the Marina sent us to the Front Desk, so we just went to the cabana around 9:15 about 30 minutes before our 10-7 reservation the CM there needed to prep the cabana so we waited in the chairs behind the cabana while she laid out the towels and then we were good to go.

Going to Polynesian in early December for our first trip. . . I am wondering, are there still locations to view the fireworks at MK from the beach (or another common area) ?

Definitely! :thumbsup2 I stayed there last December and every night I went down to the beach to watch either regular Wishes or Holiday Wishes. Loved it! With the new Happily Ever After and so much of the show being projected on the Castle, it might not be as magical as before, but I always love fireworks so any fireworks is better than no fireworks.

If you reserve in advance by phone, can you request a particular covered patio...or is it just showing up first of the three people who have reserved them?

I didn't ask for one when I reserved it. Not sure if you can. Getting there first would be the only insurance as the reserved signs with the last name on the reservation are not put out at 9-9:15

Just left the Poly after our first stay there. Glad I tried it. I think I was just too tired (last 4 days of my 19 day vacation) to enjoy it as I could have. The crowds on all the transportation options were trying, but it was nice to have the options. Used the TTC monorails mostly as we rented DVC and were in Pago Pago. Last night from MK used the resort ferry. Went to HS and AK on buses. All were timely. Overall think I prefer a moderate but it was nice to enjoy a convenient break via monorail between Epcot and MK. Loved the tiki torches at night!!!

We will be staying at the Poly for the first time in a standard DVC studio. Are there any room requests we should add? We aren't too picky...like to be close to transportation if possible. But I know nothing about the layout! Any recommendations??

So, I posted asking for advice in choosing between a TPV and GV-CL for my birthday 'stay-cation' a few days ago and I'm so happy to say that I booked last night!!!!!!!:goodvibes:goodvibes
We're staying in a Poly TPV room from August 7-10 (my birthday is the 9th)
I decided to go with the TPV rather than the GV-CL, mostly because of the dining reservations I'm hoping to make during this trip for my birthday.
I am beyond excited to be back at my favorite resort for my birthday, and any advice on which room(s) to request and other little tidbits would be appreciated!

FWIW, I took a cab from Poly to AK yesterday (11:45AMish) it was $19.20 + tip (which frankly seemed more than I've paid in the past but not sure?). I took Uber on the way back (5:30PMish) and it was $10.17. My days of taxis at WDW may be numbered.
Do we tip Uber?

Do we tip Uber?

Uber is supposed to be a tipless platform to my knowledge. Personally I don't tip, but on a few occasions I have (more for business travel where I will get an Uber Black) where they assisted with bags, we had good conversation, etc.

Going to Polynesian in early December for our first trip. We are splitting our stay with Boardwalk Villas (5 at BV, followed by 2 at Poly). I am wondering, are there still locations to view the fireworks at MK from the beach (or another common area) ? We are planning on doing O'Hana our first night and maybe just enjoying the resort on our last day (since we have to leave MK early due to the Christmas Party).

As a pp mentioned, the beach is a great place to sit and watch the fireworks. Hope you have a great time and enjoy both resorts :goodvibes.

It seems far off, but the days will go by fast and you'll be on your way before you know it ;).

I agree about calling them "poolside patios", takes away any confusion between those and actual cabanas that come with all kinds of extras :).

I love the tiki torches at night, too. Sorry the transportation options were trying, but hope you had a nice time overall :).

I can't help with suggestions as we've never stayed in a studio, but wanted to say I hope you have a great trip :goodvibes.

How much are the poolside patios to reserve?

This information is from November 2016 so you'd have to call to check for sure:

Known as the “Oasis Patios,” these areas will be able to be reserved for $25 for a half day or $40 for a full day. Reservations can be made by calling the Disney Reservation Center at (407) 934-7639, Disney Vacation Club member services at (800) 800-9800, or through a la carte by visiting the resort’s concierge.
