I was hoping for the less-crowded feel more than the actual time - I am worried that if we try to leave from MK we will hit serious crowds trying to get on the boat as it is July 4th! EEK! So even if it is a bit of a longer trip to go to the Contemporary and then the boat from there, we hopefully should get on a boat without an issue and be on our way with a few less people. At least... that is my hope!

I agree with you...from experience! The last two 4th of July weeks, we stayed at Poly CL, and while we didn't go to MK on July 4, we did go to MK on July 3 and I've never been stuck in such a huge crowd as that day trying to leave MK!! If I hadn't been there experiencing it for myself, I wouldn't believe the magnitude of that statement. It was person-to-person. Anyway, my point is that I agree with you on trying to avoid MK in your quest to go from Poly to FW. Also wanted to mention, though it looks like you've stayed at Poly CL before, that on July 4 the lounge offers typical picnic-type food during the dinner time frame. Hot dogs, baked beans, can't remember what else. We always enjoy eating in the lounge that night and watching the crowds begin to gather on the beach! Both July 3 and July 4 are really fun at Poly, but July 4 has been the only night the lounge serves the picnic food fyi.

Since we are not flying out of Orlando on one of the "preferred airlines" that has airport check in available at the resort, does anyone know if there is anywhere at the Poly where we could check in for our flights online and print our boarding passes?? TIA!

If members of your party have iphones, you can also check in using passbook and pass by printing anything :)

So, we will have 2 nights at the Poly over labor day weekend. What would be your must do's for 2 nights there? First poly stay! no kids.

We are just back from a wonderful trip at the Poly. I haven't been there in a couple of years and the resort looks great. They were cutting up the concrete between Hawaii and Samoa while we were there, which was pretty loud in the mornings and which blocked the main entrance to Hawaii at times, but it was very minor. Quiet/East pool was still open. The volcano pool gates were always unattended (but locked) and the pool was not crowded when we were there in the mornings. It seemed to get crowded in the evenings, but that's probably normal. We have gone over Easter week in the past so this is the least crowded I've ever seen the Poly or WDW. Didn't make it to Trader Sam's. My opinion on the bungalows is that they built about 2-4 too many. Looking at the castle from the beach, the left-most bungalows obstruct the view from the beach and make it feel enclosed. You can see the castle, but you have to move left, close to the movie screen or more toward the boat dock.

Ditto-ing this question! We have three nights at the start of October.. theme park view. Our first Poly stay, and our first no kids trip. =)

Haven't stayed there in 6 years but am returning in a few weeks.
I would say, enjoy the new additions to the resort, such as Trader Sam's tiki bar and the hot tub
Also, have a meal at 'Ohana or Kona Cafe. I have breakfast at Kona booked and am looking forward to my love, Tonga Toast!

Take some time to hang out in the lobby a bit, and also walk the grounds. It is a beautiful resort :wizard:

Oh, I am familiar with the wondrous creation that is Tonga toast!! Usually I stay at Shades of Green, so it's a quick walk over to get my fix. (:

Wow! That gives me something to think about - maybe we will change Mickey's Backyard BBQ to July 3 instead - I didn't know that the Poly CL had special foods for the 4th (although I should've assumed it!) - I kinda don't want to miss that! July 3rd is available to switch our BBQ night so maybe we will do that - we were planning to be back for desserts but I really don't want to miss those yummy dinner foods! I'll have to convince DH when he gets up! Thanks so much for that info! We've stayed CL there twice but not over the 4th. :-)

I wouldn't count on CL having picnic foods on the 4th although it appears the previous poster has been there the past two years so maybe it's a new tradition. They did not when I stayed there. Also we did mickeys bbq last year on the 4th and it was an awesome experience. All of the characters were dressed up for the 4th

Check in and get boarding passes the morning you leave at the airline desk when you bring your luggage down to to be checked in. It's outside Poly in front. They're open till 1:00. I love this service and not having to drag our luggage to MCO, and deal with the long lines there. Bring your ID, it's just like checking in at airport.

Any opinion on Aotearoa? I don't see it mentioned much. Thanks
I think it would be a good location. It's my 2nd choice. I've only stayed in Tokelau but now that it's DVC going to have to try other locations. My 1st request is Fiji, I think it would be nice facing marina. I'd like Samoa, facing pool, but don't think I'd get it. Prob the most requested longhouse!

Thank you, we have used this service many times, however the airline we are flying this time (Spirit) does not participate in the resort check in program. That's why I was looking for an alternative to having to check in at MCO. The lines for security are bad enough! :faint:

Yes, I'd hate for you to switch your plans and then have Poly change what they've done for the last 2 years! The food is really not overly wonderful, but it's fun and I just thought I'd mention it in case you didn't have any dinner plans:). I wonder if other CL's do the same thing on the 4th..... We always stay at Poly cause we just love watching the special 4th of July show from there!!

Hello all! We have a reservation for BoG in MK at 8:40am one morning (when MK opens at 9am), and we are indeed staying at the Poly. Having never stayed at the Poly before, what is the best way to get to the MK early? Usually, we'd just hope an early bus. Is it the same here?

Was the construction loud enough that it woke you up every morning? My husband and I like to sleep in some days and I'm considering switching our hotel if the construction is going to be loud enough to wake us every day. We are going in October so I don't know what they will be working on.

Just email your IP planner and ask! They will tell you! No need to guess. :)

How easy is it to get a walk in table for Kona at breakfast? It's not a deal breaker if we can't. We are going mid July.
