I am planning March 2016 and can't decide on whether I should do a dvc studio or regular room?!? three kids ages 3, 7, 8 at trip time….we stayed at the poly before refurb and loved it so excited to return!

Aloha and welcome to the spring 2015 edition of the Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort Information Thread!

In 1971, along with the Contemporary Resort, Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort opened as one of Walt Disney World’s first on-site hotels.

Located on the monorail loop directly across the Seven Sea’s Lagoon from the Magic Kingdom, Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort has gone through two major expansions since its opening. The first was in 1978 with another in 1985. At that time the name changed to Disney’s Polynesian Resort.

Beginning in 2014 and continuing into 2015 Disney’s Polynesian Resort began undergoing many new changes with several major refurbishments, including the lobby of the Great Ceremonial House and the Nanea volcano pool as well as the addition of Disney’s Vacation Club to the property. The Polynesian also reverted back to its original name.

The goal of this thread is to answer any questions that you may have about Disney's Polynesian Village Resort. Detailed information is provided in the first several posts, along with photos of the resort. As they become available the thread photos will continue to be updated to reflect the ongoing changes to the Polynesian as they are completed.

If you have any questions that are not answered in the information section please feel free to ask and hopefully one of our Poly faithful will be able to help!

I would like to acknowledge the contributions and hard work of the former keepers of the Poly thread, Seaspray, BreezysMom and Guitarob, along with any that carried the tiki torch before them. Mahalo!

Nice to see you keeping the spirit alive Maiapapaya ;)

Considering a return to Poly for our trip in January when we come for the runDisney races. Are they accepting DVC rentals for all of the Villa long houses now? Our favorite long house before the DVC conversion was Tokelau and we wanted to try and stay there again in January. Is this a bad idea with the bungalow buildout?

@maiapapaya, you're Canadian? You and me both! I'm looking forward to our first Poly stay like a child waiting for Santa Claus :santa:, so this thread us terribly satiating! :woohoo:So cool Breezysmom, that you met and vacationed together! :beach: I'd love to meet some of the people I've "come to know" on the Disboards! :disrocks:

Yep, we live right on the edge of Lake Huron in ON. Every Canada Day our town sets off the fireworks over the lake and we sit on our beach and pretend we're watching wishes from the Poly! We've even been known to play "When You Wish Upon a Star" on one of our phones! (total Disney nerds) Where are you from MouseMum?

This will be our first time staying at the poly. We have booked a non club theme park view room. I really want to have the best view of the nightly electrical parade. It is my son's favorite thing about going to Disney. Should I request Tuvalu or Aotearoa? Also would a patio or third floor balcony be better for the view?

Definitely third floor Tuvalu! The TPV pics shown under Tuvalu on the first page and the EWP (under "recreation") are from one of our Tuvalu stays.

The only thing with the studio is it may not be included in any discounts (initially BLT wasn't because it was so new) and two of your kids will be on a pull-out couch - unless they're ok with that (I know some kids think it's fun). With three kids having the split bathroom might be a bonus though!

Nice to see you keeping the spirit alive Maiapapaya ;)

Thanks! Still need a bunch of pictures. The thread is a work in progress, like the resort right now! :)

I don't think the bungalows are really a problem with Tokelau, unless you're hoping for one of the end rooms that had a view of the lagoon. That's probably gone. The east pool closure is listed as going into "early 2016" though. You may run into the tail end of that (depending on which side you're on of course!)

If you are paying rack rate I would do dvc because of the 2nd bathing space and kitchenette. However if you can get a discount than the regular poly rooms would be 20-35% lower, depending on which you use.

As far as I know the old Tokelau building is going to be the 1 br villas and renamed. I was on a dvc resale site today and they were not yet showing. (the studio and bungalow rooms were listed)

We loved Tokelau too last time so I am curious to see the responses

I loved that building as well and since a 1br fills my families needs at times I hope to get to try it someday. It has a nice central location:flower1:

I am considering renting points for a studio at the polynesian, I wish the one bedrooms would be available when we go…I had no idea there was even any talk of 1 bedrooms there….that would make my decision easier!!! we rented points for our AKV stay this past March and loved the extra space and loved AKV but want to go back to the poly or CR next trip.

The 1 br villas at VGF are beautiful. I saw lots of availability for Nov and Dec still showing. Maybe check out those? Out of blt and vgf we loved the colors and brightness of vgf but with a teen boy and now 20yr old girl having the extra bath at blt made it so each kid had their own. Yours are younger so not really a big deal , YET.

@@maiapapaya and @Mousemom I am a fellow Canadian as well :)

Me too ::yes::

Great idea to play Wishes music to fireworks! We can see BC Day fireworks from our deck, so going to do that this year!!! Especially exciting because we leave 11 days after BC Day!!

Thank you! I am having some issues with the super big pictures! :rolleyes2

I've tried resizing them in photobucket, but it keeps reverting to the original (even though I'm clicking "replace original") May have to resize my picture files on my computer and upload them again. Thanks for your patience!!
Photobucket, as I'm sure you've painfully noticed, is full of glitches. The "replace original photo" feature doesn't actually replace the original photo with the edited version. You need to instead choose the blue SAVE button. I used Photobucket to upload and create three resort threads and it was so aggravating and time consuming and now I essentially never have to use it again. With the board conversion to Xenforo, you can just drag photos from your desktop or photo library right into your posts. I use iPhoto to edit them and posting photos has never been easier:)

Question for those who went there recently:

The last time I've stayed at the Poly there was two things I loved... The water feature in the lobby and the torches/tiki lamps (fire) along the pathways at night.

I like the new pool better. I'll always miss the old water feature in the lobby but I like the new one a lot.

But what happened to the tiki lamps, are they still there? *fingers crossed*
We were there several times during the first week of April and at least during the day and along the path from/to TTC and around the GCH, the torches were lit. However, we didn't go over to the marina/luau (north) side of the resort.

Does anybody know how expensive it is to purchase breakfast items for your room ie: milk, bagels, cereal from the store in Polynesian. Would it be better to just order ahead of time? I don't mind spending a little bit of a premium but cannot justify something like $7.00 for a bag of bagels. Any thoughts?
This is from the CR's Contempo Cafe, but I imagine prices are the same, though selection may vary:

This may have been asked before but....does anyone know if the hammocks will be back on the beaches? Also doesn't look like lounge chairs are on Tahiti beach anymore?

I know you didn't ask, but I do recall that the swing in front of Hawaii is still there.

Fantastic pictures. Thank you so much WDWKOOK! I have added several to the first page. :daisy:

You're welcome. If I had known you were posting a new thread before reaching 250 pages, I would have taken more photos and with my Canon instead of iPhone:upsidedow. I'll be sure to take many in August.

Thanks for sharing these pics, they're great!! ::yes::

Thank you, SeaSpray:)

Also, I have to admit that after seeing the pics Kook recently posted, I'm feeling much better about our decision to stay put.

Kook: Thanks for sharing the pics.
You're welcome. Now that the GCH, feature pool, CC's and TSGG are open again, DPV is feeling more like a resort again. There is still construction going on, mostly on the south end of the resort, near the TTC. This does encroach upon the Hawaii building and Hawaii GV room views will be impacted by the Oasis Pool construction.

Does anyone know if the Quiet/Oasis Pool is going to be converted into a DVC pool? It's in such close proximity to the DVC longhouses and the DVC BBQ area.

Seriously, I could have just dragged the pics?! Ugh! That would have made things a thousand times easier!! Thanks for the info!!
