Resort Thread Disney's GRAND FLORIDIAN Resort & Spa - **THE PERCH BAR NOW OPEN!!!**

To be serious for a second - and not to be a curmudgeon or anything - but I'm not sure I totally get this place? No martini or really any 'proper' evening cocktail? And since they offer bottles of wine, it's OK for me and some friends to sit there in the lobby with a bottle for awhile? It all seems so odd to me.

I was looking forward to a cocktail option spot other than Enchanted Rose (which can sometimes be a bit of a zoo) but I'm not sure this really hits the mark, at least for my tastes.

I suspect it is meant to be a quick and easy location - at least for now - to keep labor costs down. I am surprised that mimosas were not on offer... but I think it speaks to that point...

I thought the bottle pricing on the menu was bizarre too! Seems like it's encouraging people to linger. I'm not really sure what the target audience here is especially now that there is no band.

It almost feels like they had something else in mind (full bar), and had to pivot at the last moment for some reason (maybe permits?). Are there really that many people dying to overpay for a premixed drink in the GF lobby? They could have just cloned Le Petit Cafe and it would have been a massive hit, not everything has to be about alcohol, which is thankfully on a massive downward trend in the past 20 years.

We need to talk about the footprint. I’m not going to argue with anyone about the weird cocktail aspect - honestly, I wa kind of expecting largely bubbly (alcohol/NA) options, and I’m frankly surprised they’re selling whole bottles unless they want to encourage taking them to dinner (maybe that’s the ploy??), but unless they pushed it sideways or further into the center of the lobby, there is just not a lot of room for too many options. Where would they store everything? There’s not room for a full bar, and also not for specialty coffees, at least not in addition to alcohol (which is going to be a bigger moneymaker). There is wonderful pianist every afternoon/evening, and people enjoy a glass of whatever and will linger. It’s a cute lil’ pocket wine bar! I’m not sure I see myself frequenting it often, but it’s a lovely space (tile aside;) ) that once was empty.

Sure you had to bring up that pesky herringbone tile again. I almost forgot about it while trying to figure out why there are so few options offered after we followed this build out like it was a Disney park (5th Gate) opening in the lobby.
