Resort Thread Disney's GRAND FLORIDIAN Resort & Spa + Construction Updates!! **LOBBY REFURB STARTED 4/14**

Whoever posted all those resort studio photos, please comment on the noise and thin walls, if you had those issues. Thanks
....we didn't seem to notice any noise from neighboring rooms. However, there were some young children running up and down the hall for a good 15-20 minutes - and it was after 11PM...

Anyone have the new April Recreation Schedule posted?
I still have not found a copy yet, but I am still looking! A friend of mine was supposed to get it for me, but must have not ventured over or forgot. 😒 If I find one, I will be sure to post it!

Additional Road Work Set to Commence Around Polynesian, Grand Floridian

Tikiman's Unofficial Polynesian Resort Pages posted a notice regarding upcoming road work which was provided to guests at Shades of Greenresort. The notice indicates that the latest phase of the World Drive Expansion Project is set to begin on May 1, 2023. During the project, walkways between Shades of Green and Disney's Polynesian Village Resort will be closed to guests.

Starting Monday, May 1, 2023, the World Drive Expansion Project will begin between Shades of Green and the Grand Floridian Resort. We know that it's a lovely stroll on the walkway from our hotel to the Polynesian Village Resort unfortunately, it will no longer be accessible.

But don't worry, we've got your back! We're adding extra buses to the Transportation and Ticket Center route, so you can still easily get to your destination. And the best part? It's totally free!

This appears to be part of a project which was revealed back October 2021. The project would see roadways between Magic Kingdom parking lot and Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa re-routed and exapanded to 4 lanes. It also includes the addition of three roundabouts.

New Walkway Connecting Disney's Grand Floridian Resort and Disney's Polynesian Village Now Open

Guests visiting the Walt Disney World Resort should keep in mind that a new walkway connecting Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa and Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort has officially opened to Guests.

This new path (located on the east side of Floridian Way) no longer requires Guests and Cast Members to cross Floridian Way while traveling between the resorts, allowing pedestrians to safely travel between the two locations.

Quoting myself to add pictures:

Safer, More Direct Walkway Opens Between Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort and Grand Floridian During DVC Tower Construction

Now, a more direct (and safer) temporary walkway has opened that removes the need to cross Floridian Way.

FWIW I walked the new walkway recently and it is MUCH better. Still a lot right next to a massive noisy construction site that isn’t particularly pretty and is in full daytime sun, but no more road crossings and it is now very well marked.

On my upcoming trip I’m staying at the Grand but my parents are staying offsite. When they want to come visit me they just give my name and room number at the gate? Will they have any issues parking there?

When you check in at the resort let them know that you have people coming to see you and they should be able to let the guard gate know similar to when you have a restaurant reservation at a resort you aren’t staying at.

We did as other poster suggested. We alerted them at check in and gave our room number and last name (they knew that) to my in laws to give to the guards.

*randomly a guard will ask for the drivers identification. Names don’t need to be the same as yours or anything, sometimes they just verify who is entering the resort.

Also at check in desk they gave me parking pass for guests. I would run it out to them when they arrived.

Is there any legal pedestrian way around the Sago construction? Maybe the red lines in this photo from Apple Maps?IMG_0037.jpeg
I will be there then as well. IMO no. They will keep it closed while they work on Sago. If you have used the walkway you will remember that there is a parking lot adjacent to the start of the walkway near the end of sago. That is where they will be bringing in equipment etc.

Also it takes months plural to do one building so I don’t think they will have time. Perhaps Memorial Weekend or in June is my guess. It could be longer ….

Also I just remembered they still need to do the Main building guest rooms and I don’t know if the walkway will impacted by that. However mono to MK is fast and then we use the boat for returns for the most part.

If concerned about leaving after fireworks etc with crowds what dd and I sometimes do is walk to CR and hop on mono from there. Occasionlly getting out of MK can be a pain and this option worked better.

Staying in Outer Bldg - Lagoon View next month. Are all rooms in this category now the "new" rooms?
