Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort Lobby Reopens with New Carpet and Furniture​

New Water Refill Station​

Just outside of the Sandy Cove Gifts and Sundries store, a new water fountain and bottle refill station have been revealed.



The left half is a taller fountain that has a spout from the top for refilling a tumbler or bottle. The right is a more traditional water fountain at a slightly lower height.

It appears to me they are keeping the marble...

Which I am glad about on the whole...

That said, a few months ago I would have been heartbroken if they removed it, now I find myself thinking the bright crisp colors don't work with the 1980s marble....

But, it provides some warmth... and prevents it from looking like a department store I guess...

I’m really glad to see that—while these choices are bold—perhaps they’re listening to those of us saying to keep the character in the resorts? The rug+tiles+birdcage bar certainly doesn’t look like anywhere else I’ve been!

That being said, I agree with others who’ve said each item (rug, furniture, etc) is lovely on its own but are not sure about the fit. I’m hoping that over time Disney will move around and replace a few pieces of furniture and help this all come together.

I would have been sad to see the character inlays removed. No way Disney would do something like that now.

I was afraid the marble would be changed from actual marble to ceramic tile like the outside of Enchanted Rose which is the same exact tile used in places like CBR's lobby refurb. Nothing against the moderates, but the flagship should maintain those extra special touches. I also think the "marble" in RIV may be ceramic tile mimicking marble, but I am not 100% sure. If we start to see water stains like the VGF 1 bathrooms we'll know for sure

Yes, after some of the questionable refurbishments we've seen across property I am pleasantly surprised the only questionable elements are light fixtures that aren't victorian and furniture that is a bit more eclectic than the previous iteration. Both can easily be changed or swapped out as needed over time.

I was looking closer at the furniture pictures tonight and noticed there are still Mickey heads in the center of the carpet design. Not as large as the old carpet, but it's a nice subtle touch.

I think the entire thing looks fantastic. Updated Victorian. Still looks classic. 100% better than before.

I think it looks fantastic up close! The furniture is subdued compared to the carpet and I think that makes sense. With a new bar people will be spilling all over the place. It needs to be busier and brighter to conceal all the damage. The furniture is easier to clean/swap.

The new lobby looks nice. But I have to wonder if they are going to bring back the gingerbread house next year. The new bar takes up a lot of space.

Why not put the tree at the opposite end of the lobby, instead of the middle? May not look the best, but better than squeezing it in next to the bar. Sad to think they’d typically start to build the house the end of this month.

I recall someone saying a manager told them the tree would only be a foot or so away from the bar (can’t remember exact wording.) Wonder if they are considering scaling either down, which would be disappointing, but better than nothing. Sad to think they’d typically start to build the house the end of this month.

Yes, that would be a small problem. lol I mean, Disney has Imagineers… let’s imagine we move one of the chandeliers out of the way for a couple months!! How hard could it be?! lol

But seriously, I went back to last year’s picture of the tree, and honestly, it’s not as wide as I pictured it. Even if they slightly position it off center and put it towards the elevator, if need be, I’d think it would be fine. I retract my original rambling thoughts posted above.

The old birdcage sat on a big platform, which took up the exact same amount of space as the current bar. When they ripped up the flooring to put in the new bar, you could see the outline of the previous platform. They used the same footprint for both.

If you look at the picture posted by @mrsap , you can see how large the platfrom was, still allowing for the tree and gingerbread house.

The visual definitely helps put the space in perspective. I don’t see why either wouldn’t return. I think it’s just a one time situation due to current lobby construction.

Agreed - they need months of baking lead up time to prepare for the Gingerbread house, and there was no way of knowing if the lobby would be done in time.
