I am a week behind listening to the podcasts. Pete wanted to know if anyone has completed all levels without buying any power ups. I can say I have completed all levels mostly with 2 stars. Still working on getting more with 3 stars. You can complete the game just have to try and win power ups each morning in their little pick an ice brick game. It takes a while to get what you need but from someone with no extra money to spend I wait it out. I hate when I win more hearts when I really need is something else. So you have to try again the next day.

I don't buy power-ups, either, or use the free ones. I haven't completed the new levels that were released, but I'm in the 200s, I think.

I haven't bought any power ups and I'm up to level 159. (I didn't realize they've added more levels, although I thought I had read somewhere that there were 150 levels, so I was surprised when it kept going after that.)

DH loves these games, though he also finds them frustrating. He got stuck a few times in Frozen and is now in the 120s. When I asked about it being impossible to beat he said:

Nah, it's doable. They patched the game a while back to give you one free power up per day. So if you're stuck you can just log in once a day and collect power ups till you've got enough. Some levels are very very hard. It's a question of getting lucky with the random gems that drop, too.

So I guess they've made it so if you want power ups, buying them isn't a must. Make me think of QuizUp, which is free, but at the higher levels you need tons of points to go up a level, but it goes faster if you buy a multiplier.

I was going to say the same thing. I refuse to spend any money on power ups. I'm somewhere in the low 100's and I've never spent anything. I get the free power ups they give you each day. Then if I don't pass a level, I stay may stay there for weeks. I just pick it up, try until I run out of lives, then try again later. It may take awhile but I get through eventually. I've done this on Maleficent and Candy Crush. I'm sure they don't like me. ;)

I've beat all the levels, and done so without purchasing any power ups. I have 623 stars overall (but that is going back to replay some after finishing the game).
I still enjoy going back and finding levels that I beat the first time, and just try to get more stars or a higher score.
I find the Frozen game much more engaging than the Maleficent game.

I finished the first 285 levels, and then had to wait quite awhile for them to update and come out with summer levels featuring Olaf. Quite entertaining but extremely time consuming. Luckily I have 4 kids who play it with me and we haven't bought anything so far. :)
