Better late than never!
I haven't been on here since my trip Nov/Dec 2017 (GF Sugarloaf/RPC split stay, I even missed a Disboarder meet-up as I severely underestimated how exhausted and busy I would be on the trip!), but I'm planning our next WDW vacation and am back in action! For our early 2019 trip, we switched from a WL Deluxe CL Room (some of you may remember my agonizing over this decision) to a 2 BR Villa at OKW, due to two extra guests! But I'm also planning an early 2020 stay, and we are debating between RPC, WL Deluxe CL, perhaps a split between the two, or even other MK-area CL resorts! I am certainly open to suggestions!
Holiday 2017 Trip: Crowds were much higher than we anticipated, but we stuck to my touring plans and had an absolutely magical trip.
For a VERY abbreviated CL trip report... I had a pretty good idea of what to expect at our accommodations from the awesome posters on this board, so based on that, I felt that Sugarloaf was wonderful! The rooms at both Sugarloaf and RPC could use some slight repairs/ soft refurb, but again, I was aware of this going in, and so my expectations were in line with reality.
There was some confusion at check-in at Sugarloaf (maybe staff training?), but our room was ready, and we received a room that met every room request! I agree with others that the lounge can get noisy, but our room was far enough away from the lounge that we didn't have too many issues with that. The food and beverage offerings were generally tasty, plentiful, and universally appealing (good for picky little ones!), and
when asked, Sugarloaf staff members were generally polite and helpful. We especially enjoyed the hot breakfast offerings. While many of the food items were of the mass-produced/ 'banquet'-level of quality, we were still pleased at the overall taste and amazing convenience of CL. It was a great fit for our family's vacation and eating styles, and now I don't know how we will stay non-CL!
RPC was, of course, twice as amazing as Sugarloaf. We had a TPV room also, which was a treat. We had issues at check-in with the split stay. Some magic bands worked, others didn't, and our dining credits were a mess that took one-two hours at the concierge to sort out, so that was a disappointment. However, the concierge service was nearly impeccable at RPC, which is interesting, given that I recognized some concierge CMs from Sugarloaf over at RPC! We found the RPC lounge to be quieter and more relaxing, and while the food offerings are indeed the same at RPC as at Sugarloaf, the minor differences in service, plating, and presentation make a difference. The bartender at the evening dessert and drink service even surprised our children by creating and bringing over an adorable non-alcoholic chocolate drink for them. Sitting in the RPC lounge and listening to the GF Orchestra playing Christmas music was a dream. After staying RPC, I can't imagine anything better! The fantastic views from the room and lounge, coupled with multiple private floors for CL access, made for a far more enjoyable experience than SL. I was shocked at ill-mannered fellow guests' behavior in the lounge- screaming, barefoot children, and someone with (what I believe may have been!) whooping cough, among other things. However, we had such an amazing time that none of that came close to touching us up on cloud nine! Truly a fantastic experience that I look forward to repeating, although perhaps not during the holidays!
I snapped some photos of some of the SL evening offerings (sadly didn't think to do so in RPC), included below.
