Disney's Art of Animation Resort hotel

Well, we're booked for LM in AoA for our trip. I was excited about trying POP, but I'm super psyched over being able to go to AoA with it's early opening. I can't wait to use the 'Big Blue' and check out the gift shop and food court. Also, we can't wait to see the Christmas decorations for this new resort.

I booked AoA for a night this October. I'm a little nervous as we've never stayed in a Value. It looks fun though and I read the food court is supposed to be pretty good. We booked a Nemo suite.

I'm currently at the World and rode past AoA on the bus tonight. I'm happy to report both the huge resort signs -- the one at the road and the one at the main building -- are illuminated and look great!

No big deal but I am not really digging the weird stripey thing thats behind the front desk. The sketches on the wall are neat though. The pics show a few more of the fish sculptures that were added in , and a few pics of the gift shop.

They are moving pretty fast. Where I am living right now takes them 2 years to build a DunkinDoughnuts!

CBR has pirate rooms and value has a whole resort dedicated to sports. Not that both can't like either, but with the new LM and Royal Rooms at POR, it seems pretty even.

I just think Disney dropped the ball by eliminating a whole group of people from the new value rooms. I don't think they should have a section that is "boy" oriented at all-just something that appeals to everyone. I wouldn't have had a problem at all if they had, for example, made the Cars and Little Mermaid sections both all family suites and then had one of the other sections have normal rooms. Just seems odd to me.

I know you don't like the the only standard room section of AoA is LM but let it go! There are plenty of neutral rooms at many resorts (toy story, fantasia, music any where, any resort rooms except obvious pirates , which could appeal to both or royal rooms which actually could appeal to both) I said it before and I'll say it again my son is all boy, about to turn six and still loves the little mermaid, the movie, the music and the characters (there is more than one in the movie you know) so breathe and let it go already.

Luckily the rooms themselves don't look very girly... the framed pic of Eric could just as easily be a pirate and sebastian and flounder are on the other wall. Beds are a pretty neutral geen/blue with yellow flowers (although it does look like the mirror is *gasp* pink!) but then there is a large pink light in the corner of the nemo suite too, and that's not considered girly (there is a lot more blue than green though). The rooms seem WAY more "tropical" than "girly" to me... no sign of a princess at all.

Good point... I can't think of a single guy I know (young or old) that doesn't like the movie..

Even my dad and husband who don't love "the rat" like that movie! As my husband and his co workers say she's the hottest princess (mid drift showing or seashell bra, not sure)

Booked AoA for Sept. 15 and 16, $112.00 and $97.00. Hope an AP rate comes out. I actually arrive on the 14th but the actual "grand opening" of the non-suite rooms is Sept. 15th. Hoping they'll let me in a day early or I'll have to stay at Pop for the first night. At least it's only a walk across the bridge to change resorts.

Someone else may have brought this up already(but I might be the only one to find something to complain about) but I wonder why the only regular rooms are in the Little Mermaid section. It seems like they would want to have rooms that appeal to both boys and girls so Nemo or the Lion King would have been way more appropriate for the regular section. I would assume that the imagineers would have thought of this but maybe not. I really want to try it out but we do not need/want a suite and my little boy stated most emphatically that he does not want to stay in the LM section.

Have to second (or third) pperfectmom. Why theme a standard room category with something that is not gender neutral? And having a framed pic of Prince Eric would appeal to all? Probably not. If they stuck with Sebastian/Flounder ect and left out the rest I could see it having broad appeal. Maybe it's because I have boys, or maybe it's because the grown men I know do nor discuss the finer points of princess dress at work, who knows? But I do think they dropped the ball on the decor. Just my 2 cents.

Exactly. I was merely speculating as to why Disney made this decision. I'm glad I'm not the only one confused by it. At no point did I express anger so I'm not sure why the bizarre comments about deep breaths and stepping away from the computer. Very odd, indeed. Just the thought of my husband discussing princesses at work with "the guys" gives me a huge chuckle, though, so thanks for that.

I guess I didn't think about gender when I was deciding on where I wanted to stay in August. Maybe because I don't think of Disney movies as gender oriented, if I like the movie, I guess that is what I thought about. As when we stayed at All Star Movies, never gave it a thought boy or girl type building.

I got a chuckle out of that too... but I've seen multiple posts about your confusion about the LM section and thought it was a bit, much, did not mean any disrespect though.

So is anyone here going to be there for the opening of the LM section ?

I have a bit of a dilemma in that my boys are 10 and 11 and not so thrilled with staying in a "girl" room. My 18 yr old DD and I are super excited though ! Its one of our favorite movies ever.

We usually stay at Fort Wilderness or the CR so the boys have some adjusting to do. They are not being bratty or anything about it , but I still feel bad a bit. I know they would lke the Cars or Nemo suites but this year we have so many big budget things including a move to Orlando sometime between fall this year and spring of next year. So its pretty tight right now.

The fact they are being so good about it is what makes me feel bad because I know my son is a HUGE Cars fan. Right now its looking like a 50 difference per night between 2 LM rooms or one suite and that adds up over 2 weeks. Like almost 800 more I think.

Finger crossed they offer some kind of deal/discount so we can switch over. But if not I know we will all have a great time anyway. I just wish they would my info in correctly so I wouldnt have to worry about our connecting rooms.

I did tell them we can still go explore the Cars and Nemo areas also.
