Just FYI, the current show Blast! at the Hyperion Theatre at DCA closes on Monday, September 2.

On December 9 Disney is replacing it with an Aladdin show described as:

The production is planned as a spectacular entertainment that over the course of a single act tells the story of Aladdin and his adventures involving the beautiful Princess Jasmine; her father the Sultan; the evil Jafar; and of course Aladdin’s hysterical wish-granting Genie.

The production features songs from the film score composed by Alan Menken, Howard Ashman, and Tim Rice. Three of the musical numbers - “One Jump Ahead,” “A Friend Like Me,” and “A Whole New World” - will be staged with special effects that will literally fill the theatre in a manner that audiences have come to expect from the best Disney creations.

So if you want to see Blast! go soon! :)

I think I'm in the minority, but I really didn't enjoy Blast! all that much. It was OK, but nothing I would see over and over again. I'm excited about the new Aladdin show (just in time for my December trip). This sounds much more like the kind of Disney shows I like.

Michelle,
Will they have the big blue genie from the movie? I heard they weren't going to have a genie or some such nonesense.

Any idea when they may start showing it at the park. Dont they have shows as a practice run before the grand opening??? I hope so or we will just miss it.

Bob they typically do have "soft openings" for things like this so you may have a chance of seeing it. :)

As for the genie, it says they will have "Aladdin's hysterical wish-granting genie" so it sounds like he will be there. :)

Will the new Aladdin be 'live mike' singing performances like MGM uses?

I'm sure I already know the answer to this, but here's a bit of wishful thinking. . . .
anything going on at the Hyperion between Blast! and Aladdin? (We're going to DLR in October!)

I wish the HunchBack Show was still playing but hope we are lucky enough to see it!!

Yes -- the Aladdin show will have live mike singing like at MGM -- it will also be a very big special effects show -- flying carpets, puppets, etc.

<font color=navy>We really enjoyed the Power of Blast - enough to buy the cd for the full show. I'll miss it, but at the same time, I'm looking forward to the new Aladdin show - it sounds like it will be a really good one. :)
