That would be nice! Although the estimated cost is really high! Wow.

(sorry if this has already been posted. I looked and didn't see anything)

Senate approves funding for levitating train

Associated Press - April 17, 2008 8:45 PM ET

LAS VEGAS (AP) - The U.S. Senate has approved $45 million in funding for a proposed levitating train linking Southern California to Las Vegas.

The bill passed Thursday is the largest cash infusion in the project's nearly 20-year history. The money will be used to fund environmental studies for the first leg of the project.

The train would use magnetic levitation technology to carry carry passengers from Disneyland to Las Vegas in well under two hours, traveling at speeds of up to 300 mph. It would be the first Maglev system in the U.S.

Cost estimates have reached $12 billion.

U.S. Sen. Harry Reid says the train is needed to ease traffic congestion on Interstate 15. Critics call the project wasteful spending.

The Senate bill also allocates up to $6 million for restoration and protection of the Lake Tahoe basin; $2 million for the Southern Regional Transportation Commission; and $2 million for the Ely, Nev. railroad.

The measure now moves to President Bush for approval.

They have been taling about that for years, wish it would happen , and be better then our monorail system.

When I first saw the title I thought "Wow someone has a lead foot!" hehe

That would be really cool, and would be another reason why I wish I was in So. Nevada and not Northern Nevada! LOL

Have they?
Well shoot, they better get busy then!!

Actually it sounds like it might be moving forward a little more now. :confused3 Hopefully.

No traffic would make it amazing!

But since I live 3.5 hours from Vegas by the time I drive to Anaheim I would save no time and have no car. But it would take lots of cars off the 15 and that would be great!

Haha, when i saw the post title, I thought "wow, that person is dreaming if they think they can make it to Vegas in 2 hours!" lol

how neat would that be.

And I thought we drove fast! LOL!

Uuuh- I'd definitely think about taking this thing if it was here, for one, and two, if it was safe.

it's a great idea, but the cost is just too much $$$. i personally would love for it to become a reality but i just don't see it happening. says the train could travel up to 300mph which is just crazy.

yes i do remember a few years back when the idea was 1st proposed. and yes it will certainly be better then our joke of a monorail system.

Crazy, and scary! I mean what the heck happens if you get into some sort of wreck at 300 mph??? :scared1: I hadn't thought of that before!

well the train wouldn't go that fast, it just can go up to that speed. at that rate you would be in anaheim in less then an hour! the train would probably travel at 120mph at top.

Wow - that would be kinda cool - but having lived in So Cal I think the $$ would be better spent on a commuter railroad between the inland empire and San Diego. Maybe with a Las Vegas spur!!:thumbsup2

Why is it crazy? Europe and Japan have safely been using such systems for years.

Oh, I see. Still, I don't think I've ever been in anything that fast! :rotfl:
