We are wanting to planar trip to Disneyland since we have never been. I was hoping to save a little money and stay at a Good Neighbor Hotel. Any suggestions on a hotel within walking distance than is in a safe area to stay at? It will be just me and my daughter going and safety is a must.

My 2 favorites are Fairfield Inn and the Castle Inn when we go.
Both always clean. Easy walk to restaurants and the parks.
Ive stayed at both twice.
Never a problem.

I like all the marriot, Fairfield inn and a brand new court yard right across the street. A courtyard down harbor a little way and a residence in. Down the street a littl way. A brand new spring hill at the corner of harbor and katella, and one at ball and Disney way? Behind the parks both within walking distance. And a residence in on clementine, within walking distance. A good thing about many of these free breakfast, not all but many, also those that don't are right near a McDonald's for breakfast. I have only stayed marriot or DL resort hotels so can't tell you any others.

What I wrote in my TR about DLR in May of this year.

I didn't know at the time but this hotel sells out fast, so if you decide on it don't wait to make your reservations.

HOTEL

As you might be able to tell from the prior post I did stay offsite. I am a big fan on onsite but DLR was three times the price of offsite and I didn’t really see much of an advantage. Since we would just be there two mornings I just didn’t see the benefit of EMH vs $300 a night at onsite resorts.

We booked at the Best Western Park Place Inn. For location it gets a 10. I could make the walk in about 5 minutes. In fact one night I took leftovers back to the room from Cathay Circle and then made it back to my mom in just over 10 minutes. The crosswalk to go to the Disney Park Gates is in front of this hotel.

Service was great, I found the employees polite, helpful and very eager to anticipate your needs.

I did not have a car but a cousin drove in to have lunch with us on Sunday so I bought a one day pass for $10. Very worth it, and easy to get her car approved and parked.

The rooms were very clean, the linens were not old or ratty, and the bed was very comfortable. I paid just over $100 (plus the fees/taxes which brought it to $124.00 per night) but still for three nights the price was very reasonable ($375.94 + $10 parking fee for one night).

Fridge/Microwave/coffee maker in a King room with fold out sofa. The coffee was dismal. Beyond bad, I had brought my own stuff (Ice coffee drinker), but my mom does plain black coffee, hot. She can drink anything, even she said it was pretty bad.

Water pressure was low in the sink but strong in the toilet/shower area. They don’t have an explanation of the toilet flushing. It’s an eco flush so two settings. I recognized it, but my mom didn’t.

Housekeeping was great. Again I give it high marks for the quality of the room and good employees.

We were in room 153. First floor about mid way down on the far side of the hotel. We actually took this room because it was ready early rather than wait for our assigned room. We ended up right next to the housekeeping laundry. Very loud clumping noises until 9 or 10 at night and activity all day long. It didn’t keep my mom up (yes she goes to bed early) or drive me totally nuts in the morning or if we came back, but it was annoying. I did not complain because I choose to take the room, but just FYI. Avoid this room.

The pool is tiny and luckily I am not a pool person, because you couldn’t have paid me to get in it or the hot tub. There were lots of kids jumping between the two and more than one baby in a non swim type diaper sitting in the water. However I was very near the pool and never heard any noise though there were plenty of people enjoying themselves. I think the most I saw was 3 or 4 families and that was about the limit of seating and space to move in the pool. The hot tub was shoulder to shoulder.

I've read mixed reviews on this breakfast but I thought for the level of stay and the price it was a very nice buffet. There were cereals, whole fruit, bagels and bread, muffins/pastries/donuts, a hot line with waffles, bacon/ham, egg patties, roasted potatoes and one hot cereal, along with a cooler of yogurt and the usual low fat milk/coffee/oj.

I found the breakfast to be very limited for me (multiple allergies), but my mom was happy with the offerings. Her only complaint were soft waffles (stuck them in the toaster the next day and that worked great) and the egg patties were bland. I was prepared and had brought items to supplement my breakfast so it was all good. I ended up with whole fruit, breakfast meat (sausage one day, ham the others), potatoes, and orange juice (I brought WF bread and Almond milk). My mom tried waffles, fruit and made a breakfast sandwich (toast, egg, meat) both days, she drank lowfat milk, and coffee. I think she tried the pastries one day, but she didn’t care for them, but they were pretty basic Danish/muffin selections. She also had yogurt. The coffee in the breakfast was much better than the in room stuff. They had two types of oatmeal (from a packet), and three dry cereal selections. I might have been okay with one of the cereals (frosted flakes as I’m not gluten free but wheat and oatmeal free, but I didn’t really see any safe choices if you were Gluten Free).

I found the food to be at the right temperatures, it tasted good and there were employees on hand to keep the area cleaned up and stocked.

My SIL, niece (5 y/o) and I just spent three nights at the Howard Johnson Anaheim and it was really great; friendly and helpful staff, super clean large room (we had a 2 queen), no restaurant (Mimi's Cafe is right next door) but we found the gift shop had everything we needed during our trip - breakfast items and odds and ends we decided to buy. We walked to Disneyland and back for three days and we always felt very safe even at night. It is the last of the hotels to the left on Harbor Blvd, and while you can get passes to take the ART we found it easily walkable.

FYI the same owner of the hojo is building a Courtyard right next door and that's probably where my family of five will stay when we go to DL. It's not open yet but depending on when you are traveling it may be. It'll be Courtyard Anaheim Theme Park Entrance.

You should watch the podcasts for the GN hotels in the Disneyland 7 in 7 series.

We also love the Candy Cane Inn. They have a complementary shuttle, but it's also close enough to walk if you really wanted to.

I did some research yesterday and watched a few video reviews of the Good Neighbor resorts, and I am thinking Candy Cane Inn may be where we end up staying. I also like the fact they have a shuttle for safety purposes. Thank you to everyone for your feedback!

We stayed at the Howard Johnson. We asked for and got a park view room and could easily watch the fireworks over the Matterhorn from our balcony. Free parking and plenty of places to eat near by. Will do it again!!

We enjoyed the walk to DL

Fwiw the area around DL, especially along harbor and katella, is safe. Tourists and the occasional sleeping homeless person is who you will be around.

Definitely suggest bringing this conversation to the DL section of the boards, you will get a lot more answers from those to spend time at the parks :)

FWIW she's getting some pretty good answers here. :) Eventually it'll be moved there, but right now she's not missing much.

OP, now that I'm off my mobile...

CCI is a time-honored place to stay. Nothing wrong with that choice.

We really like Anabella, though. It's at Katella and Disneyland Dr. You can take Anaheim Resort Transportation (ART) which is the paid transport for all but (I believe) two motels in the area (CCI being one of them that is still allowed to have its own shuttle). Or you can walk out to Katella, cross it and walk up Disneyland Dr. Pass Paradise Pier Hotel, go to the Grand Californian, walk into the Grand, follow the signs to Downtown Disney and the esplanade, and enter the parks that way. :)

I've stayed at Park Place Inn and Carousel and both are very close to the esplanade (coming from the other side of the esplanade than if you come the way I just described). I've stayed at HoJo and it's just a bit longer walk. The side of the esplanade you enter when walking from Carousel etc is also where the shuttles (ART and CCI's shuttle) will drop you off.

Another recommendation here for the Candy Cane, stayed there 3 times. Inexpensive, good breakfast, clean, shuttle, close enough to walk.

When we were the in December we stayed at the Best Western Plus Anaheim Inn which is almost directly across the street from the maingate. It has free parking, free wifi, and free breakfast all of which we found very accommodating. The walk to the parks isn't bad at all. I would highly recommend this hotel.
