Hi- I am new to the Disneyland part of this forum. Have never been to California either. I am trying to convince DH that we should visit there next summer instead of Disney World, we will be staying at grand Californian(we are DVC members), what else is in the area for us to do, I know that Disneyland is not as big as Disney World, so what other parks or activities are around. We have an 8 yo DD, BTW. Thanks for any help. :goodvibes

There's lots of good info in the sticky near the top of this section.

You'll especially want to read the article on DLR tips for WDW vets.

There are also other sections with stickys for the other area theme parks.

Lots of stuff to do in southern California.

Just to be more specific:

Universal Studios
Legoland
the beach
visit Hollywood and take a tour of the stars' homes
Magic Mountain

Also, if you don't own VGC, try and call asap to get your reservation right at the 7 month mark. Next summer will be insane with the new carsland opening and DVC reservations will definately be hard to come by. ;)

Do you know when Carsland is going to be open? We definitely will want to see that!

Welcome to Disneyland. :goodvibes I just wanted to point out that although the property area is not as big as WDW, don't think you can do it all in 2 days. As they have added more attractions, we've started adding more days to our vacation. We used to go for 3 days. Last year it was 4 1/2, this summer we will stay 5 1/2 days. And keep in mind, if you go when Carsland opens that will be even more to see. :)

I agree that you can spend more time at the DLR than you might think. But other non DL things I would add to the list are:

An Angels or Dodger game
The Getty Museum or Getty Villa
Griffith Park/Observatory
Hollywood Bowl concert

Yea, actually you should check out ticketmaster for your dates to see if there is anything else going on while you are there. Concerts, Plays or sporting events... I'd love to take my DS to a monster truck rally or nascar race...

We will probably stay in the area 1 week to 1 1/2 week. Not sure yet. We definitelywant to do Disney but also want to see other sites in the area. :goodvibes
