I am aware that disneyland had said they have no plans to implement magic band support; however, I had a weird experience this weekend that made me question that. I had some photos taken by photopass in Cars Land and when the photographer was done I handed him my Premier AP (DLR and WDW) as usual.

Instead of scanning my photopass code on the back of the card he said "watch this" and tapped the AP to the back of the PDA thing they use. He said they got new photopass PDAs that support RFID. I asked him if it would have worked if I had a magic band on me and he said yes.

Sure enough, the photos showed up in the Disneyland app with no issues.

I am curious if anyone has heard rumors about incoming RFID ticket media at DLR considering photopass definitely supports it.

Fingers crossed! I love being able to scan my band or better yet, walk off the ride knowing that the photo is already tagged as me and will appear magically in MDE :)

iOS11 is also allowing third party developers to access the NFC chip inside iPhones, so that is another option for Disney to take advantage of.

I'm sure they will eventually be doing away with the paper fastpass sooner or later.
