Disneyland Paris employee ruins marriage proposal

None of my pics specifically show it. But this fence I'm standing next to is around one of the stages and then if you look to the bottom left of the stage you see the fence. There's a gate/chain that goes across the stairs. They had to open something or climb over it to get to it.

Also should keep on mind, france is different than us culturally and the couple may not speak French. Though if someone starts talking loudly or yelling at me in any language I would stop what I was doing. And given some of the interations I had with cms and other guests when we were there, neither part of this surprises me. I don't blame the cm and hope the apology didn't include anything more than the apology.

The background of their pics also show it fairly packed at the castle opening which to me says either something just finished or was about to start. It seems like too big of a crowd to just be passing through any castle I've seen without a parade etc causing it.

Some people just get off on whatever little bit of power/control they can wield over others. The smile and the eagerness makes me think that is the case here. Seems to enjoy ruining the moment. Hopefully they stick him cleaning toilets for a while.
He did the RIGHT THING. The boyfriend and girlfriend were completely in the wrong. They KNEW they shouldn’t be there. The cast member is my hero, and needs to be rewarded. I would like to see more of this enforcement of rules at Disney. It’s a huge positive to me.

I find it very hard to believe they had permission to be there (asked a bus driver?) there's fencing around the area. I'd love to hear what Disney did and see clear pics of the area. The CM was overzealous taking the ring, but he clearly knew they weren't supposed to be there. Can you imagine what precedent that would set? People would think the stage areas are fair game for proposals. Open can of worms....
Exactly, everyone will feel entitled to go there and get a ring, a selfie, etc. if it is established that that is in fact a restricted area.

Ok, DLP AP holder here. These stages are closed till a few minutes before show time. There are usually CMs around to avoid people getting on. The stage is prepped for the show with fireworks on it. If someone falls off or messes with the fireworks big big problem.

There are always people trying to push their kids on the stage to get unique pictures. As soon as that happens a CM ushers them off. Also, if they allow it for one, they have to allow it for all.

I read in another thread the guy admitted they had no permission. Which makes total sense because no CM would give permission.

While the stage doors are open, people around the stage have been waiting ready for an hour maybe to get a good spot. Around the stages are blocks where you can stand and where not, as dancers and characters move around the hub from stage to stage. Nothing can be blocked in their way. It's a bit like getting on the street when the parade has started. And maybe the parade is then a thousand miles away. If CMs are walking around, constantly asking everyone to stay on the street and you grab your fiancée's hand, pull her on the street and propose. You will be stopped.

It doesnt work to copy a link from youtube with the time stamp, but if you go to 13.08 you will see in the back the gates.

What I also have been wondering about. These were not first time guests. No one proposes in a place that has no meaning for them. They must have visited the park several times to make this something for them.

I’m a big believer in minding my own business…if you’re not hurting/disturbing me or my family/friends, I have no problem! I don’t know why some of you are so passionate that the cast member did “the right thing”…this couple wasn’t hurting anyone or interrupting anything! Who cares! Let them have their moment.

Because it sets a precedent. How many other guests want to get up there and have their moment? It'd be happening all day every day, possibly with a line. The area is not supposed to be entered by guests - it's that simple.

It's like a line cutter. If these things aren't enforced then it's not fair to everyone else.
You don't get some special entitled treatment because you think you can break the rules.

Besides the precendent: Because of the fireworks on stage. If they had fallen off and/or had moved the fireworks, then they could have hurt cast members during the show, or they had to cancel the show.

It has happened that a door within the castle in WDW was left open and people walked onto the balcony. They don't hurt anyone, but things can happen. People can climb on your rooftop having a party, not hurting anyone.

Saw the original thread on Reddit where I think this initially gained traction. From what I understand the guy proposing asked for and initially DID NOT get permission to do this, but kept pushing “because I want to” (i.e. he had this plan made up and no alternatives) and eventually the CM he was talking to relented. That was the big mistake. Obviously the second CM in the story didn’t handle this in the best way but none of this happens if the first CM doesn’t give in.

So because of precedent and rules it justifies this cast member behaving like an animal? I mean who does that?! Running between the couple and snatching the ring box? Those who are angry and side with that behavior must be the same people who tattle taled in the 3rd grade and made the whole class miss recess 🤣
And for safety concerns—they usually rope off areas you shouldn't be in. Now I don’t know the complexity of the situation-but if the couple hopped over a roped off area that would be stupid and wrong. If they asked and were told “no” then again that would be stupid and wrong. But if the area was open to go into freely I think that interjection was really tasteless and classless—rules or not!
Reality is none of us know how the situation really went down, I am just judging from what I see!

To be clear, I think most of us who believe the couple were in the wrong also think that the CM shouldn't have initiated a physical action. I don't think he should have snatched the ring, but I still side with instructing them to vacate the stage and have no sympahty for guests who were clearly in the wrong.

Plus if that had happened and it was in the US (less so but still relevant in Europe), then those rule breaking bozos would have sued Disney for not preventing them from going in a dangerous restricted area.

But if CM waits for the proposal to be over and the rule breakers to leave the rule breakers basically got what they wanted. A moment in a restricted zone that isn't allowed for anybody else.

That's probably what the rule breakers were counting on in the first place. Oh, we'll just hop the fence and ignore the CM's because I'm a wild and crazy guy, we'll get the photo op and video and then we'll leave and have gotten what we wanted.

I see your point, but still, a physical action is more appropriate for security to handle. This is also for the safety of hte CM. That guy proprosing is a pretty big dude too!

I am in Disneyland Paris next week, I will try to see when the gates open and if a CM is around to stop guests like usual (probably more now ;) )
