Disneyland in May for 1st Times (LA and more also)

I had forgotten to get my notes in the car so was unsure if I was supposed to walk up Highland or Hollywood Blvd to find Melrose Place, some place called Pink's hotdogs and some yogurt place called Pinkberry. We walked for a while on Hollywood, it was very nice, but decided that wasn't the right way. We ended up just going back to the car and heading towards Beverly Hills next. I should have walked down Highland, the first road would have been Sunset Blvd and the next Melrose with the places on the corner. No big deal. Ididn't want anything at either, just had written them down because people said they were a must in LA.

My mom's husband, Richy, has a niece who lives in Beverly Hills, she is seldomly there though but he was hoping to meet up with her towards the end of the week. She lived on Santa Monica Blvd so he wanted to drive down it to scope out where we would be going. My mom wanted to hit Rodeo Drive. So we headed down SMB (yes, I am making up abbreviations as I go along) towards Rodeo. We saw the area where she lived and then realized it was right at Rodeo, only we were too busy looking on the wrong side of the street. Turned around in Century City and found it. Parked and got out. Now having Lin and Richy with us is a bummer! We hardly saw a thing and only went in the Guess store. Years ago I had gotten a couple things, tshirt from Guess, then at Tommy got some shorts and another T and a watch in another store. I was hoping to find some of those things, but didn't.

While in Guess, Dallas had to go to the bathroom, so of course I had to find one on Rodeo Drive! thank goodness we were next to where we parked and this nice looking guy in a couple thousand $ suit looked smart, so I asked him. He pointed us in the right direction.

This is an adorable little street with more shops, it sits off Rodeo but is still a part of it. It is just so pretty. Versacci is up there.

We were hurrying since the boys didn't want to be there, we probably weren't going to buy anything at most of the places and parking was expensive.

e20bc37b.jpg

Here was Dallas waiting for everyone else to use the bathroom. They decided since it was nice and clean they would make a pit stop too.

Oops, spelled versace wrong! Not much into expensive designer names!

After Rodeo we headed down Santa Monica Blvd to the Pier. I don't know if it is me or what but any time we have been near that pier it has been FREEZING! And it was again this time.

It was quite lively and probably around 6 pm when we were there. My only other experience it was the middle of the day and like a ghost town (midweek) but they were filming a movie so it was nice to see it a little more active this time.

Dallas of course wanted to ride the rides at the park. We settled on the roller coaster. It would have been $20 for him a ride ticket but then one of us would have to have one to in order to take him and we didn't plan on staying there long. It cost $10 for the roller coaster which lasted all of about 30 seconds. They did let them go around 2x though, so almost like a buy one get one free!

He really enjoyed it though so that is what counts! We headed back to the hotel around dusk and made it back before the fireworks went off so I was happy about that. I am thinking we ate dinner at Mimi's again. We ate there almost every night. The food was delicious!

Up next, Mother's Day at Legoland!

Sunday, May 11th - Mother's Day
Legoland - Carlsbad, CA

This morning we got up and decided on legoland. We are not ones to plan alot on vacation. It is vacation and we want to enjoy ourselves. I wasn't really sure where to go today because of it being Mother's Day but Dallas was getting really antsy to go and so we thought it fit in just fine, plus we have been sleeping in a bit so didn't get there until around 11, they only opened at 10 am.

I mainly decided on our trip to CA so Dallas could go to legoland before he grew too big to really enjoy it. He is obsessed with legos and my whole family just loves them. We had tons when we were kids.

Lots of pictures coming for anyone who wants to know what legoland is like!

2e8405f1.jpg

We parked in section C.

Once we were inside the gates Lin decides his skin is dry and he is going to put some lotion on. He pulls one out of his pocket and I say really, lotion, because I took the lotion, it was in MY pocket. So he says yes. And I said are you sure it is lotion? Yes. So I say okay. He smears it all over him before I tell him it says conditioner on it! It was pretty funny. He said it did the job though!

Most things at legoland are built using legos so we have lots of pictures of things!

We did a dinosaur rollercoaster first. It was fun. The on to some little jungle trek ride. I would have to say if this was a long line I would skip it. I think there are only 6 cars and it seemed to take forever! I was quite impressed with the waiting areas they had for kids, it was made so the kids could go in and build with duplo legos while a parent waited in line, there was a gate then to join the line when it was almost at the front. Nice setup if it was super crowded. Dallas hates duplos, always has though, so a no go for us.

While we were in line for the jungle thing the lady in front of us had her 2 kids and husband join her. They were showing her these adorable little lego people so I had to ask where they got them and she told me at the dinosaur dig. Now the dig place is just sand with dinosaur bones in it and I figured we would skip it since legoland is only open until 6 pm, or was it 5, not very late though. But we had to get the little guy, so off we go. Got a bucket, you rent a bucket for $3, it has dig tools and then you find the bones. But when you turn in the bucket you get the little guy!

Oops! I better post this before I get too many pictures!

Next up was a cute little boat ride to see mini lego world. It has all kinds of neat things, statue of liberty, vegas, etc. You can also walk through it but we skipped that since Dallas wanted to ride. We ended up never making it back since the park closed so early.

Dallas is obsessed with all things lego, so we had to check out the Bionicle stuff. In my opinion, bionicles are not legos, but they are made by lego. I am old school though.

This was his other favorite! Kind of like Muholland Drive at disney. He loved that!

Sorry, picture of a picture!

Next up is the kiddie area. Dallas isn't into the little rides really but rode a few of them. He cried and cried because he saw this ride going upside down and turning you all over the place. So Lin takes him on, well they never went upside down, there are 5 different versions of it and his height you can't go upside down. He is definately one that cries when he is sad! Thank goodness he is not a fit thrower. His little eyes get all red though and then little tears start coming out.

This park is perfect for kids probably from age 3-10 ish. they have alot of restrictions on the little ones where disney will let you take kids on almost anything. At 5 Dallas loved it but thinks he is too grown up for kiddie rides. Darn rollercoasters and being tall!

It was getting late and also cold out so we skipped the water area. We weren't even half way through the park and had less then an hour to go. We had no idea that it would take so long to do everything and be so enjoyable. I thought we would like it but we LOVED it. I would highly recommend it to anyone who likes legos or has little ones. Perfect park!

I see why it is important to sit down and do this pretty quickly as my mind is already forgetting some details, like what we ate and when.

After Lin and Dallas went on the pirate ship we were hurrying to make it on one more ride, he at first chose some race car things that he really gets to drive, although when we got there they weren't working and everyone was just stuck, so we kept going. I actually think it is a good thing now because there was a baby one for 3-5 and then a bigger kid one for 6 and up and for some reason I either think Dallas is 4 or 6, since he has turned 5 I just can't for the life of me remember he is 5 and I have no idea why! So we kept going and him and Lin decided to hit some fire truck ride. Dallas knew exactly what it was even though we didn't. He must have seen it online.

1c39b0a7.jpg

9cf0de79.jpg

You push this thing up and down to make the truck go, then get out and have to put out a fire (real water, no real fire) and hop back in, it is a race and Dallas loved it! There was only 1 other team but Lin and Dallas won and he liked that.

b1ed3fda.jpg

Since I don't have any sleeping people pictures yet, usually a highlight of our trip, I thought I would do the lego guy!

b67a2728.jpg

This is the last ride we got on then and one that Dallas had chosen over the cars, only stopped at the fire truck in the middle. I am glad we did this last, it was about 10 minutes until closing and I guess this line gets really really long!

42e63936.jpg

You pedal a car that is on tracks up above the park. It is cute, although you can see the track from alot of places in the park and I thought it would be alot longer then it was.

We ended by going in the over stuffed store, there were people wall to wall. My mom bought Dallas 3 legos (just what I need, to carry 3 legos home on the airplane!) but it was the thought that counts. He got 2 new coast guard things that we found out later on hadn't been released yet. Dallas was pretty thrilled to have new legos to choose from, he has so many that it is hard to find one that he doesn't have, especially to go with his city.

We left the area around 6:30 and headed back towards the hotel. No one was sure of where we were going to eat and thought we would find a place on the way home. We ended up deciding that we would just go to Mimi's. Everyone was extremely happy with their food so far and Lin and I had not actually eaten in the restaurant yet, just had take out. But about 10 minutes from the hotel I started feeling car sick (completely normal for me) so once we got back I went into Mimi's but decided to just go back to the hotel. It was so loud in Mimi's, atleast sounded that way. I took a short nap while everyone ate and they brought me a turkey club sandwich with french onion soup, it was delicious! I had that every night practically! After they got back the fireworks were going to go off shortly and so I was ready to watch them from our balcony. I was sad to know that it was one of the last night's that we would see fireworks since they don't shoot them off every night, just friday, saturday and sunday during off times.

May 12th - Monday
? Day

Today we weren't real sure what we were going to do. Somehow when I was making plans and counting I missed a day, but in a good way, I had nothing planned for one whole day! We woke up and it was kind of misty out, not really raining, but wet and misty with a sprinkle. We had thought about going to the zoo, but didn't really want to go 2 days in a row towards San Diego and it was supposed to be freezing. A high of around 67 that day, it was warmer then that though. So we just decided we would hit downtown disney.

My mom did some laundry first, she enjoys doing laundry and we had washed everything the night before or maybe it was saturday night, but one shirt and she really wanted that one shirt washed since it was going to be so cold out.

e33102c2.jpg

The guys decided they were going to see Iron Man at the movies. I would not allow Dallas to see it because I am a "bad mommy". He is too young in my mind to actually see the movies, most of them are PG13 and there is way too much language and violence and just stuff he doesn't need to see, so he shopped with us.

d09f30e4.jpg

First we hit Build a Bear! I was quite excited to see what they had special for disney. I loved BAB when it opened here, before Dallas was born. It reminded me of my first teddy bear and I just loved the concept. We have a few bears and I thought they could use some cute outfits. So I got alot, I really wasn't sure what I wanted and will probably not keep it all but didn't want to regret not buying it! I had to buy the pirate and princess ears and then shirts to match, and pluto and goofy hats and a disneyland t with the ears.

eb0d5479.jpg

We also went in the Dept 56 store and looked at all the village stuff. I wasn't carrying the stuff back so didn't buy anything but my mom did get a few accessories. After that I decided we needed to feed Dallas so we at the mexican window that you walk up to. We weren't too familiar with what was around so we checked out a few restaurants but I wasn't doing a character meal for lucnh, Dallas doesn't do characters and too costly to just get him some food. I know, what a bummer I am sometimes. It was good though.

After that we headed to lego.

e86218b1.jpg

By the time we got there the guys were done with their movie and happen to see us in lego.

752236e4.jpg

cae533be.jpg

That is Dallas' creation of Indiana Jones! Oh, and just because Dallas hasn't seen any of the movies doesn't mean he doesn't love them. He is obsessed with Star Wars, Iron Man, Spiderman, Speed Racer, Indiana Jones, and on and on and on. All those boy movies!

I hit Basin after lego and got some nice cute mickey soap. Oh, and yes, Dallas got another lego at the downtown disney store, his trip total was 4. And then my mom told me to buy him an airplane and she is sending another one for him (atleast she is sending the $150 one, Whoo hoo!).

I think we went in World of Disney also and that is probably it. I was looking for a cute sweatshirt but having the hardest time finding one.

For dinner that night I think we ate at Tony Roma's (ribs), it was delicious as always! It has been a long time since I had been to one but it was still super yummy. I don't know what else we did since it seems kind of early and like we didn't do much.

Tuesday May 13th
Magic Morning - Disneyland

No one seemed to think it was important that we get to the park early, but I bought our tickets from getawaytoday just we could have 2 magic mornings! So everyone got up and we were at the park gates with about 5 minutes to spare.

Waiting to leave the hotel!

c7902db6.jpg

Now, my main want for the Magic Morning was to get a completely adorable picture like another disser has of her kids in front the castle with no one near! Well, everyone wanted to ride Nemo and I knew that we were already far back in the line getting in that we didn't really have time to stop, so I passed up the picture taking opportunity!

Waiting for Nemo!

Now, I did want to see it but I am kind of old school, been there done that, even though it is different then what 20,000 leagues under the sea was at WDW, overall it was pretty much the same!

The line was LONG and it wasted our entire morning! I don't think I would stand in line again for it.

After that we headed towards the back corner of the park which we hasn't seen much of yet. It's a Small World was closed and we didn't need to see princesses so thought we would hit Toontown, but it wasn't quite open yet so took the train around the park.

By then it was almost time for the first Jedi Training. Now, I had told Dallas about it because I knew he would love it and he probably would be a bit scared had I not told him about it, as far as what happens, so I had to make sure he got picked at some point during our trip to do it!

Finally all suited up and listening.

This is just some random kid fighting Darth Vader. Dallas fought Darth Maul and I did not get a good picture of him at all. I did tape it, but still you can't really tell it is him.

and graduating!

This was by far the highlight of his trip and he plays this constantly at home! He always had his lightsabers and played but now you must do it in the order they do. I am glad we got this over with and I didn't have to worry about it for the rest of the trip, which would have been my fault for even mentioning it. He would have been fine just watching it probably, had I not told him he could fight one of them.

After that we headed towards toontown.

We did Roger Rabbit and Lin and Dallas did the Gadget Go Coaster. I really wanted to ride it but hate taking up another seat so I skipped it.

Toontown at DL is much better in my opinion. It is spaced out better and has cute little things all over, the toon holes, the cars and just the scenery in general. They were painting Mickey's house and so we skipped the houses, although we probably would have anyways.

I wanted to head out and get over to California Adventure since my mom hadn't been in yet and all we really did was go in for the Electrical Parade.

bb783e39.jpg

e00335d2.jpg

Once over there we just ate at counter service. Mine was pretty much horrible and i ended up with an ice cream cone. I think the counter service is lacking in my opinion, or maybe we just didn't know where to eat.

I thought the Monsters ride was adorable (and Roger Rabbit too), probably since I had never seen either before.

33f2d94b.jpg

We then went on the Tower of Terror. Dallas got in line with us but then changed his mind. He loves the darn thing but the past 3x has passed it up, he doesn't like it dark anymore! Funny how they aren't scared of anything for the longest time and then it finally sets in!

98d76447.jpg

After that we went over to A Bug's Life land! What a cute little area! It was adorable!

He played in the water for a while. I took him a change of clothes since I had read that kids will get wet and he did, he was drenched.

The 3D show was closed but Dallas hates it anyways.

Coming up next, the Pixar Play Parade!

Okay, I am really BAD about parades! If I take 1 picture I want a picture of the whole parade! So feel free to skip over this part! I must say it was completely adorable and it is a water parade and you WILL get wet. Not soaked or anything, it was nice, but you could end up with alot of water on you and the camera. I knew our camera was good to go since we left it outside one night in the pouring down rain when it was almost brand new! Really though you can dry off the camera quick enough to not worry!

We went over to California Screamin next! I knew this was a bad idea because Dallas LOVES roller coasters and was not tall enough, but we just went anyways and left him with my mom and Richy. He cried the entire time, just a little sulk sitting in the stroller but sure makes you feel bad. My mom said he didn't want to ride the carousel or anything, just the roller coaster!

9f223f5b.jpg

And it irks me to no end that no matter what I do no one can take a good picture of what I want with me in it! I wanted it closer up with all the ferris wheel in the background. Oh well!

Okay, this next part I REALLY need someone's help! I somehow screwed it up and I missed the R! So I need a picture of the R with no one in it!

I guess this is kind of like a parade thing to me. We started out with one letter and I thought what good is that, so we decided to do all of them, although it is kind of pointless now that somehow we missed the R. I even redid the I and the F in case I wanted them all seperate!

502c1e31.jpg

Some day I'll look back on this picture and I am sure we will be like I can't believe Disneyland was ever that cheap. I thought it would make for a good memory.

and the bench again. I just can't get over how cute it is!

We headed back to the hotel after CA closed. They closed at 6 and DL was open until 8 but the parade ran at 7 which we didn't want to see and didn't want to have to deal with all the people going in and then getting up main street. It was probably 6:45 by the time we were done taking pictures.

We did head over to downtown disney to get my mom a deck of cards, I think it was this night. Anyways, a family member lost their little girl who was about 3 or 4, so we spent the first 20 minutes looking for her. We happen to walk up behind them when they noticed. The mom was freaking out, as I would have been. She actually had wandered in the store and was just looking around. I happen to find her right after the dad did, within seconds, but glad it was him and not me. I would feel weird kind of taking a child. The mom and rest of their party were right outside the doors. Security came pretty quickly but they sure can't do much or atleast didn't seem like they were doing much. It was the passers by doing all the looking.

Who knows what dinner was, either Mimi's or McDonald's. I think it was McD's that night as we had ice cream before we left the park, I think. It was the worst McD's food I have ever tasted it. I figured it would be quick and easy to get Dallas something and get him to bed, he was exhausted, so we all decided to just eat there, bad decision!

Next up is the San Diego Zoo! Something I have always wanted to do!

Enjoying your TR! Now I want to go to DL!

Cant' wait to see your San Diego Zoo photos!

Nice report.

How close to the Chinese Theater is the star for R2-D2 and C-3PO?

I went to the Soda Fountain the other day for the first time, but didn't have time to really look around. My next visit though will be for the purpose of seeing Sleeping Beauty at the El Capitan, so I'll have more time to explore the area.

WOW! That was a monster update! You're making me look like a big 'ol slacker! I should have taken notes because there were all sorts of things I wanted to comment on!

Lego Land looks like so much fun!

I wasn't overly impressed with Hollywood when we went to California. But, that was 16 years ago. I was more scared than impressed! :rotfl2:

Why didn't you want to take up a seat on a roller coaster? That's what the seats are there for!;)

Love that Lin put conditioner on his arms! :rotfl:

Cool that Dallas got so many Lego sets!! My kids are Lego deprived. We have some Duplo, but Tessa has to go to grandma's house to play with "real" Lego.

Brian got the frozen banana while we were at MGM, I always got the ice cream sandwich. My favorite!!!!

Linn looks like a good sport!!! The story about the conditioner had me laughing! :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Legoland looks like a lot of fun!!! You guys were really busy weren't you!

I have to say it was slightly warmer in Florida during this time! We were sweltering! I didn't know California was that chilly this time of year. Good thing you brought some warm clothes!

Dallas is such a cutie! I love it that he loves the rollercoasters! Last year Lydia was just barely under the height limit for Expedition Evererst (If she'd worn a different pair of shoes, she's have made it without a problem!) and she cried about that for quite awhile. I felt so bad for her!

You guys are just sooo cute!!!! I love that you all got Mickey ears!! How cool are those embroidery machines!

Wow though, when you update YOU UPDATE!!!!!! Can't wait to read more!!!!

Dallas has WAY too many legos. My mom bought his first regular legos for his 2nd birthday. I built them and he played so gentle with them and loved them. Ever since that is all he gets, although now he makes a huge mess. I'll take a picture of our current set up shortly, but in the mean time I have one that from about a year and half ago I can post. Just gotta find it.

I always feel bad on the kiddie rides if 3 of us go and only 2 can fit in a seat. I know silly, but I guess I get tired of waiting in lines. I probably really would have loved it too.

I was a bit worried about Hollywood at first, but after going I think how silly. It seemed pretty nice and really no homeless people around or anything.

I decided I need to get my trip report done before I forgot everything so sat down one night and just kept writing!

I loved that we all had mickey ears but so upset that I forgot to take them to the park on thursday (coming soon), they would have gone perfect with our outfits!

Poor Lydia! Dallas doesn't want to do EE because of the yeti but he loves the idea of the ride so we'll have to see when October comes what he wants. I think he should be tall enough for sure, if he isn't already. I can't remember the height restriction on it.

I would love a commercial embroidery machine! I have a pretty mega one right now (as far as home machines go) but I actually grow tired of embroidering and never use it except to sew! I like to hand piece applique better.

San Diego Zoo

Today we are going to head to the zoo. I have always wanted to go the zoo. In 4th grade we went to California, but San Jose, Sacramento and down to San Francisco for a day so it was never even a consideration and have always dreamed of it since! This dream probably stems from Jack Hanna (I think was his name) always having animals on the Johnny Carson show!

So we left around 8 am. Traffic was great! We were a bit unsure of what we would hit and we slowed down a little here and there but nothing bad at all. We were extremely lucky with traffic overall for our entire trip.

This is a picture from the car. It is a beautiful drive to San Diego down the 5 with much of it being along the ocean more or less.

And another one. I was impressed with all the pictures I took out the window, going down a freeway and I was sitting in the back in the middle so the window wasn't even down!

We were a little unsure of what kind of ticket to purchase for the zoo, they had regular then they had one that included a bus tour and ride on their sky ride thing. I went with the more expensive since then we had a coupon and it was only $6 more, what it would have cost for the sky ride which Dallas wanted to ride.

I didn't think we would use the bus, but boy was I wrong! Since we had never been and didn't know the layout and the map didn't seem to help much we dicided to take the bus tour first to see how the zoo was laid out and get a feel for it.

Going towards the bus stop.

On the bus, waiting to take off! It was a double decker open bus and we sat on top (the drivers side is the best side to sit on also). We saw several animals, here are a few.

A few little stories for you.

The little black bear was around 2 years old and I don't really get why he was by himself. They had just seperated him from his mother and father (he was born at the zoo) and gave him his own enclosure, his parents were in another one, so why would they seperate him? Very sad.

The wart hog at the zoo is the one that disney used for reference for The Lion King and the animators actually came to the zoo with their sketch pads and all. They told lots of great stories and facts on the bus tour and was so glad that we paid for it and took it.

The zoo is HUGE or atleast seems that way, but not alot animals and laid out extremely weird in my opinion. We grabbed a bite to eat once off the tour (delicious food) and then decided to walk around the zoo since you are driving by most areas and can't see everything great from on the bus. Well, we walked and walked and walked and walked and it was like you were walking to no where up and down steps, hills, etc. It was horrible. We walked all the way to the back, but only saw a few animals along the way and took the sky ride back to the front. We decided that was it, the walk was not worth it. It was just laid out funny. We did take the bus tour one more time to see the animals again and that was extremely enjoyable.

Dallas LOVES penguins and picked one out in the gift shop to buy. I am not a big souvenier person but thought I would get him a shirt. I couldn't even find one so he ended up with the penguin. I did buy a bag, those newer style ones so you don't use plastic and take them with you to the store, etc. I love it and it was only $2! I know 2x as much as the ones from the grocery store, but it is different.

My overall opinion of the zoo is that it was well worth it! I loved it but I would probably never do it again or it will be a long time. It just was weird. I love that I fulfilled my dream of the zoo and I think the idea of it is what made me so happy and enjoy the day still. I just wish we could have walked and seen more the animals. Oh, and walked for over an hour, almost 2, so it wasn't like we weren't walking.

This is for another disser! I thought the school bus was neat, ours don't look like that at all and happen to take it!

On the drive to San Diego there is a beautiful rest stop, not sure where, but it sets right on the ocean (I mean you couldn't walk to the ocean and go in, but the view was gorgeous)! Had we known we would have stopped on the way, but we didn't. On the way home we stopped but of course this one is on the other side of the street and it made a world of difference. We needed to stretch anyways.

We drove to some other places in San Diego but were tired and didn't get out at I think it was called Old Town or maybe that is the one we skipped, somewhere. I should get my book and look. I think we were all just exhausted and didn't want to walk anymore.

Once getting back to the hotel the boys were going to swim and we got Mimi's to go to eat at the pool. By the time we got our food and walked back they decided it was too cold (although the pool is heated and wasn't that cold, we are just used to WARM water). Dinner again was delicious. We kind of turned in early which was nice.

Next morning is a magic morning again!
