Disneyland in April

I'm planning on going to Disneyland in April. Should I have hotel reservations by now?
Will I be able to get a descent place to stay?
How much time do I need in Disneyland? We'll be driving from
Phoenix.

I can't help, but I would like to know the answers to these questions too because we are planning to go in April also. I want to stay at one of Disney's hotels but I am not sure which one yet.

I went this past April, during the first week of the month. I made my reservations around the end of February and had no trouble getting what I wanted as far as flights, hotel (PPH, upgraded to park view upon check-in), etc. We're going again this coming April and I will probably make the reservations a bit sooner this time, but that will be just so I can get them out of the way.

I went for a week last April during Spring Break - week after Easter. We got a good rate at the PPH using our AP rate. We booked concierge too. It was a great trip. I booked ours around February. We drove so I don't know about airfares.
I think DL was trying to pump up the attendence levels since I was surprised I got a deal during the holiday period. Crowds were not too bad - and the park hours were longer too. The weather was nice but cold at night. Let me know if you have any questions and if I can help I will.
