Disneyland Hotel is it worth the extra £500?

We are still having the debate about changing our holiday plans from WDW to DLP. And I have talked my DH into staying at the HNY if we go to Paris, BUT my DH then waved another incentive to switch to DLP he said what if we stay at the Disneyland Hotel?

Now this will be £500 more as for some reason the HNY hasn't got the free night offer on the quote. Our price includes five night stay, Eurostar and half board premium.

Now my question is is it worth paying the £500 extra to stay at this hotel? If yes why?

Also how much spending money do you think we would need? I ask this because we would still have to save up for spending money if we stay at this hotel.

Hi,

I've not stayed at either the HNY or the DLH (I'm a budget girl), but I think the general consensus here is, if you can afford the DLH, pick the DLH :goodvibes .

Whichever hotel you stay at, you'll need a similar amount of money for your trip. You can spend as much, or as little, as you like at DLRP. So I guess you should just save as much as you can for your spending money.

I'm the same as Elaine (just a boy instead :thumbsup2 )

I'd personally go for the DLH as I don't dream of staying at the HNY but I do dream of staying ath the DLH!

I think it depends on what u can afford, if u can afford to stay at DLH then go for it :thumbsup2
If staying at the DLH will mean less spending money for you then i would say choose another hotel.

We stayed at the Dream Castle Hotel 4* and it was absolutely gorgeous.. we still had the benefits of experiencing 4* but half the price cheaper than if we stayed in the DLH, which meant we had more spending money.
Money is easily spent in DLP, although it is possible to budget, but enjoyed the extra spending money and ate in nice resturants everyday and bought lots of things from the Disney shops, it was great fun.

However if we could have stayed at the DLH and also have a good amount of spending money i would have gone for this option :rotfl: as the DLH did look lovely.

Its hard to say how much spending money u will need, as it is possible to budget and it depends where u would like to eat & what u would like to buy in the shops etc...

We went for 5 days ... 2 adults 1 child and we took around £650 with us and that was MORE than enough... we came home with 35 euros and we spent ALOT in the shops and ate at table service resturants everyday and also went to the shopping mall and got my hubby a GUESS wallet!

Which ever hotel u choose im sure u will have a fantastic time :goodvibes

I would love to stay at the Disneyland Hotel so if you can afford the extra £500 go for it. We've never had the hb vouchers but having read a few trip reports recently I definitely think we'll invest in some of those next time. As for spending money it's so hard to say, it's really easy to get carried away but we tend to set a budget each day and usually stick to it, that way we can afford nice treats and invariably we have some money left over. Have fun planning whatever you decide :goodvibes

Hmmm, this is a hard call. Once upon a time I would have said it is not worth it, but the Hotel New York quality has fallen very far recently. The DLH offers a true Disney experience with well maintained rooms, turn down service, better character interaction, the best bell services (you can leave your bags in the room and they sort them for you), great location, breakfast overlooking the park, interactive hi def TV, nicer quality decor and a free fast pass each day. Breakfast is slightly better. Also the room service menu is more extensive. And the bar has a live pianist. A big plus is you do nt have to go through security each time you go into the parks, so you can sleep 20-30 mins longer at the DLH.

The hotel New York has some good features too. The pool is better at the HNY, it has an adult feel, and the lake view rooms are very nice. Breakfast is not quite as crowded in the peak times (we go early, so it is a moot point for us). The main difference between the DLH and HNY breakfast is the DLH has donuts and pancakes, and made to order omlettes (HNY is still better than all the other non DLH for breakfast though).

For £100 a night, I personally think it is worth the upgrade, but based on my synopisis above, hopefully it can help you make an informed decision.

It's hard for us to suggest spending money as we tend to go to 3 Disney resorts around the globe each year and the merchandise rarely changes, so we spend little.

For our family of four however, without half board, we tend to budget 150 euro a day. That takes care of one table service (inc. 1 bottle of wine), shared counter service meals, drinks and our souvenirs.

If you allow 200 euros a day you will be rolling in it.

Souvenirs are not that much more than in WDW, but drinks are (£2 for a bottle of coke, £4 a beer, £7 a cocktail).

I always enjoy my breakfast at DLP but I'm liking the sound of the donuts, pancakes and omlettes even more !!

Like I say, the DLH is the only one that offers the Disney standard in accommodations and service at the resort.

We are going to DLP on Sunday and are staying in the DisneyLand Hotel.

This is our first ever trip to DLP, and incase it turns out to be our only ever trip, we decided to pay the extra for the DLH and live for the moment!

4 more sleeps......

Hi Jane!! Lovely to see you over on this board!!!!

I'd say if you can afford it then it is worth it. :)

As I've stayed at HNY and although it and all the other hotels are lovely, I get a very strong, sad 'pang' whenever I see people going into and out of the DLH entrance.

I cannot wait for my upcoming stay and have a feeling that once I go DLH I wont go back to the other hotels. :goodvibes:

I think I'm more tempted to change our holiday plans if we do stay in this hotel as I have always said I would love to stay there. And I don't think we would ever have the chance to afford to stay in this hotel again.

I love pancakes for breakfast so that is a big plus.

Spending wise I was very good when we went to the world for our wedding so I think I will be able to be good again. We should only have to pay for one meal a day as we will have the vouchers so I'm thinking we won't need that much extra money.

I think we will make our decision next weekend after pay day, if we get a nice Christmas bonus we will stick to our original plan. I don't think that will happen so DLP here we come :)

I had a similar dilemma; considering whether it was worth £300 to upgrade to the DLH. After a lot of dithering I bit the bullet and upgraded - and haven't looked back. I can't wait to stay there and it will be all the more special because we won't be able to afford to stay there again. This is a definite 'one off' for us. If you can afford it, I say go for it. Like I said before, follow your heart.:goodvibes

Definitely go for it if you can, the location, style...everything about it is such a treat. One thing I would say that if that Christmas bonus is up to it try for the Castle Club! On our first trip in Oct 2006 we stayed there and it really was worth it, being able to drop back for snacks and drinks all included at anytime was priceless as were the VIP fastpasses no queuing whatsoever.
I'm sure you'll have a ball wherever you end up xx

I stayed at the NYH last November, and at the DLH last week. There is no 1 answer to your question but:
1) if you have young children, go for the DLH: it will mean much more time in the park.
2) if you can afford it, that is if you are not taking those 500£ away from your spending budget from the trip, go for the DLH: it is worth it.
3) if you plan to spend time in the Village, go for the NYH: with the winter cold, the less you walk the best, and the Village is around the corner from the NYH. More, once you are in the DLH, you will hate the idea of going out ;-)
4) if you have to reduce your spending money to pay for the hotel, go for the NYH: it is a lovely hotel, and has very good service.

sorry... cant offer advice, as have not stayed at either. But wanted to tell you how beautiful your pictures are.. and as Matthew and I are getting married in 3 years.. I am starting to dream of a disneyweddding/honeymoon....

Come on Jane, do it! :) We can compare notes then! I've been to DLP only two other times but I know staying so close will make up for the price of any upgrade ~ plus, it's pink! Seriously though, the service should be lovely and I cannot wait!
