I need to stop torturing myself over the decision on where to stay for our one and only Disneyland Hotel. Which would you pick and why??

Disneyland Hotel Concierge

Get spoiled a little and do this one. The free food beats view. Plus they have newly remodeled rooms.
I love Grand Californian but you won't be in the room too much for that view.

We prefer GCH Premium View over Concierge (by the way you can add concierge privledges to any room) because even if we're not in the room often, waking up to the sounds of DCA and watching the sun rise over it is just my DD's favorite. Having your coffee on the patio and smelling the Disney smells (think corndogs and churros but not in a gross way) is just so relaxing! You feel like you're waking up IN the park!
Here's my favorite view we get.

I would choose DL Hotel Concierge.

Will you be around to take advantage of the concierge amenities? If you are park commandos from open to close you will get almost no use of the amenities making concierge rather useless. Continental breakfast starts at 6:30am (and there is an espresso machine!), there is evening appetizers with wine/beer and then desserts with liquors till 10pm. We like being able to do the fast breakfast in the morning and we do pool breaks followed by evening appetizers before re-entering the parks for the evening. We usually miss out on desert because we're in the parks but it is still totally worth it to us. If the only thing we would hit up would be breakfast in the morning I would skip the concierge and grab Starbucks on the way into the parks.

Oh man, that food looks awesome! We stayed at the Disneyland Hotel in a standard room and we loved loved loved the pool and hot tub area, Trader Sam's and Tangaroa Terrace, and the music/atmosphere all around the grounds. If we'd added concierge level, that would have been one deluxe stay! We had a view of the far away Matterhorn... I think I'm in the minority, but I did not enjoy the walk through Downtown Disney, which is still a bit far, even to the Monorail, so the closer location of the Grand may be appealing, but I have honestly not even set foot in the lobby. It's my 'something to save for the next trip'.

Hard to say. I'm big on balconies and the view. Will you use the concierge? You'll have opportunity to use the view. One of my favorite past times is sitting on my balcony after a long day just winding down.

Either one would be fantastic, so just pick one and you'll be happy! You can't go wrong either way.

Now having said that, I will tell you that I personally would choose DLH concierge. My girls think that's the best thing EVER. Honestly, GCH premium view just doesn't wow me in the least. The balconies are small and dark, and I can't stand to sit out there. I can't see anything when I sit down anyway, and most of the views are of trees. It's pretty, but there aren't that many rooms that give you a whole lot to see, at least not where I like to stay. I HATE staying in the outlying rooms where you have to walk forever just to get out of the hotel. However, it's very convenient if you get in a wing that has easy access, and the hotel is just beautiful.

I love the gigantic windows at DLH and if you have concierge, you're likely (not guaranteed) to be in the Adventure tower, which has fabulous views as well. Would you be going with premium concierge or standard? Either way, request the Adventure tower since that's where the lounge is. You'll be right next to DTD, Trader Sam's, Tangaroa Terrace, etc. There is just something so luxurious about being able to walk to the lounge and have a cappuccino in the morning. You can make lunch for your family with the breakfast offerings (croissant sandwiches with ham or turkey and cheese; bagels; Uncrustables; fruit; etc). You can take snacks and drinks with you. You can come back in the evening and have beer or wine to your heart's content. It's a fun way to come and go IMO, but we DO come and go. We're big on taking breaks during the day.

As a DVC member who has just recently discovered the joys of concierge stays thanks to more trips than I have points for ;) I have a question ...

What is the difference between standard & premium concierge?

Thanks!

Concierge access is the same- the rooms interior is the same- the only difference is what is outside of your room. Standard = city view which is either Disneyland Drive, streets or parking lot. Premium= Park or Pool (for GCH) and DTD or Pool (for DLR)

I'm a little confused about what a pp said about the concierge views for the Disneyland Hotel. My understanding from when I talked to Reservations and also by what is on their website is that standard view concierge is pool view and premium view is Downtown Disney view. They also told me on the phone that all premium view rooms were in Adventure tower (due to the view) and that it was very rare for the standard concierge view rooms to not be put in the Adventure tower. Now adding concierge on to another room type/suite can put you in a different tower, but if you book the two types of concierge available you should be in the Adventure tower. Or so that's what I was told. Is this not correct?

Standard View - Club Level
Views of Pool

2 Queen Beds and 1 Day Bed or 2 Queen Beds or 1 King Bed

Sleeps up to 4 Adults

Premium View - Club Level
Views of Downtown Disney District

2 Queen Beds and 1 Day Bed or 2 Queen Beds or 1 King Bed

Sleeps up to 5 Adults

That first question is SO important.

If you will be around, go for DLH concierge.

If you won't, go for...um...DLH.

I don't like the Grand. I will stay offsite before I stay there again. Small, dark rooms, the potential for endless hallways that put the middle of the esplanade as far away as if you walked from the sidewalk outside HoJo (seriously, I mapped it from our room), all the cool stuff about the hotel is in the lobby which is free to anyone walking through...

all premium view rooms were in Adventure tower (due to the view)

Eh...I could see getting a DTD view from Frontier tower...

Actually, the best view I have had was from the Frontier tower. 14th floor, had a balcony, great view, loved watching fireworks there. (Only drawback was having to walk to the Adventure tower for the Concierge lounge.

We've done them both several times ... We usually choose the GCH ... Where else can you have a room that's literally in the park?

Not to mention... Waking up to this spectacular view
