I'm copying this post that Tom created from the Podcast forum. He's compiled the Disneyland History segments that Michael did. These segments are interesting to listen to and perfect for the Disneyland Diamond Celebration. :)

Not Disneyland-specific, but Disneyland history-related.... sort of.

I don't know if you remember that I told you that (Disney voice legend) Thurl Ravenscroft attended and sang at the church I went to as a child (which has since burned down). In fact, I would imagine that somewhere in the box of my late grandmother's photos there is probably something with Thurl in it, as she took a lot of pictures at the church and at church-related functions. Thurl was part of a radio show group called the Goose Creek Quartet, which was put together by the founder of the church. It was a show about a small country town, and everyone in the 'cast' had cute but silly nicknames. Think "Hee Haw" meets Mayberry meets Garrison Keillor's Prairie Home Companion.

Whenever it was a "Thurl day" at the church, there was extra excitement in the air, as everyone knew he was Tony the Tiger as well as the voice on many Disney attractions, and one of the singing heads in Haunted Mansion. He was a very charismatic man, with a tall, thin frame and an easy, comforting way about him. His expressive face had a lot of character, and there always seemed to be a mischievous twinkle in his eye. Plus, the voice was unmistakable.

A couple of years back I was looking up something online about that church, trying to see if anyone who used to attend it (or the daughters of the founder) was still alive! I couldn't find anyone whose name I recognized, but I did stumble upon a website about the church. I contacted the guy who runs the site and told him I used to attend the church, naming some names to prove I was on the up and up. He didn't have too many Thurl-at-the-church photos, but he did have access to some of the recordings of the Goose Creek Quartet. He emailed me a couple of snippets, but he probably won't send me the full recordings until I go through my grandmother's old photos and pick out anything from the church to send to him! (Bribery!! :lmao:) Anyway, I don't think the guy who runs the site about the church wants me to play the clips on a public forum, but, Mary Jo, one of these days I should play them for you, Michael, Tom, etc., off of the forum -- if you think they'd be interested.

The episode from 7/12/15 is amazing to listen to. Warning, listened to it on the plane to DL 60th Birthday and had sniffles most of the way.
