Disneyland DVC DUO Studio “Garden View“. “I don’t think that word means what you think it means..”

So we booked a Disneyland Hotel DVC Tower Duo Studio “Garden View” room. Now we have had “Garden View” at a number of Disney Hotels and it has always been of quiet, grassy area or interior courtyard, like at the Grand Californian. Our “garden view” is a full on super noisy pool view room. ????? Why are they advertising a “Pool View” as a “Garden View”. We asked the DVC CM at the old Blue Sky Room, now DVC showroom, at DCA, and were told “Yeah, all Duo Studio “Garden View” rooms with a balcony are really “pool view” rooms. Why the deceptive advertising and not just call them “pool view”.

Did you not watch a YouTube video or read an article about the room category before staying there?

Definitely not quiet during the day or evening. The music is on until the pool closes. There are quite a few YouTube videos. Just search "Villas at Disneyland hotel garden"

In this instance at VDH, I believe the "garden" term is harkening back to the old garden rooms of the original Disneyland Hotel. The hotel originally had a two story motel like set of rooms before any of the towers were built. Eventually these were called the "garden rooms." I agree that it can be confusing though, since the term means something else in other DVC resorts.

Here's a interesting link from Yesterland talking about the old garden rooms and Disneyland Hotel:

To me, that's deceptive. How are you supposed to know that "garden" means pool? If it's a pool view, call it a pool view!! I would have been very upset had that happened to me and I completely understand how you could book that view without any realization that it's mislabeled. How ridiculous to have to go and look up YouTube videos to make sure your room is what it claims to be.

Very astute. I got curious and looked at the hotel site, and they do call some of the duos "Garden Rooms", and it doesn't look like any rooms are categorized as Garden View.

As you can tell from my "name", I loved those old buildings and always requested them when we stayed at the DLH. Our last stay there, we didn't even go into the park, we just went to say good-bye to The Garden Rooms before the last ones were razed. My favorite room, the balcony overlooked the Monorail Station (so also the parking lot). I would go to the Monorail Cafe, grab a coffee and sit out on the balcony listening to the sounds of CMs getting the Monorail station ready for the day while DH and DS slept in. I would LOVE to stay in those Garden Rooms even if you don't get any theme park sounds (plus a balcony is a must for me, I hate that they removed most of them from the towers ).

By the way, I forgot to mention that I love this reference in your title:

I'm staying in a duo studio next year.
The "garden room" is because of the balcony, it's not labeled as a garden view at all.
I understand how people can be confused, but nothing about it says the VIEW is of a garden, it is labelled "garden room" not garden view.

Oh, of course I always associate having a balcony as it being a garden. 🙄 That’s even dumber.
I never said it made sense, but it also never ever says it has a garden view, it is labeled a garden room - meaning it is seperate from the main building in the garden area of the pool

I still think it's confusing to a lot of people to call it garden anything. Planters and palm trees in cement are not what I associate with the word, anyway. Not saying it's a bad view, just a bad name for it. Maybe terrace view? Patio view?

The website lists:
Duo Studio - Standard View - Views of Gardens, Street or Parking Area
Duo Studio - Preferred View - Views of Pool
Duo Studio Garden - Garden Rooms are separate from the main tower and provide easy access to the pool. Includes a Balcony or Patio

So, in my mind, we have a preferred view with a balcony or patio. It says “Access to Pool” not view of pool. If they are calling the concrete slab in the back with the bbqs, bordering the road, a “Garden” I’m not buying it

The only Duo rooms that have the balcony are the Garden Rooms, so you'll be in the little block of rooms that are separate from the tower.
The standard and preferred rooms are all in the tower.

Correct except it’s only the ‘Deluxe Studio’ to have a balcony or patio is ‘Garden’. None in the tower have one. There are ‘Standard’ and ‘Preferred’ Duo’s in the tower with balconies. 9 of the 15 Standard and 9 of the 17 Preferred. To guarantee a Duo with balcony or patio is by booking Garden.

And the point to be made, as evidenced by our pictures is that there is 0.00 percent “Garden” about the room we have. Especially when all the other resorts consider “Garden” to be something else. This was someone desperately trying to differentiate these rooms from the others and choosing an epic fail of a description. How hard can it be? Call a Spade a Spade. Don’t get cutsie and call a hoe or a cultivator a spade.

Terrace Room is a great idea. Cant believe nobody at Disney could come up with that over garden.
