Disneyland Divas working out, getting healthy, and looking fine in '09!!

I hope it is great for you. I think Tracy lives in Vancouver. She is only a bit away from me and we have yet to get together though we are going to try this summer. I don't have any plans yet for the weekend. If you would like company for a meal let me know, but don't feel like you have to. I know that sometimes it is just nice to be away with a loved one.

Sarah

Bob's flight leaves around 3:50pm Sunday and I don't think I'll be going with him to the airport...no need really so he'll probably leave the hotel around 1ish so I would love to have company for dinner or drinks or snacks...whatever works for you! With your schedule I wasn't sure you'd have time so I didn't want to bother you because I know Sunday's are good family days! But if you are free Sunday afternoon I would love to meet up with you! I have no idea where the hotel is in relation to where you are, the address is: Sutton Place Vancouver
845 Burrard Street, Vancouver, BC, Canada

I don't have to work Sunday as of yet so I would love to meet up. You will be only 30 miles from my work. If I don't have to work I think we will make it a family day up to Vancouver and if I do have to work I can meet you after. If I have to work, I should be off by 4 so I could meet you for dinner, but if I have the day off it would be nice to meet you for a late lunch. I will keep in contact as my schedule firms up!

Sarah

PS I am so excited that we might be able to meet up!

That is terrific! Whatever works better for you I'm up for anything! I am excited too that we might be able to meet! I'll PM you so we won't bore everyone with our planning! Yay! I am now evern more exctied about the trip to Vancouver!:yay:

Right on! Ah, yes, carry on, back to the regularly scheduled weight loss chatting!

I am hungry! Going to Boston Pizza tonight with a bunch of ladies from work and then to a play...boston Pizza does not have too many healthy options but I decided on French onion soup and a chicken taco salad. Sounds yummy and should keep me in my points range for the day.

Is everyone drinking their water? I have had my 64 oz for the day but will have some more with dinner. I try to limit myself to one soda per day and I have already had one, so no more for me.

Dh has been working out and got hurt and finally went to the doctor today. They say he pulled some cartiledge (how you do that I have no idea). Anyway, it is supposed to be painful for about a week but no major damage done. He just needs to take some anti inflammatory for the next week.

Later

Welcome back Beth!

I lost 1.5lbs this past week so I'm happy about that. Now I just have to do it all over again. I think Osita and I will go hiking again (but near the house) on Friday or Saturday.

I'm feeling SO sleepy and tired today I don't know if I can muster up the energy to go to the gym tonight.

Last week I exercised Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday and again yesterday, I swam laps at my aunt's pool because the gym was too crowded.

Cristabel, good job on the loss! Keep that up and you'll be at your goal before you know it. :cool1:

Sarah, I am sorry to hear about your hubby getting hurt. I hope he is better soon. And I hope you and Vicki are able to meet up. That would be nice.

Yes, do the C25k!!:cheer2:

There's a couple reasons it's important to start out slowly with the running. First, cardiovascularly I think you may find the 60 seconds is more difficult than it seems. Also, you need to build up your muscles in your legs. Running involves quite a bit of pounding on those legs and it takes time to build up the strength to support that. It was quite common for me to feel sore or feel a little tweak here or there when I started running. Still happens now, but not as regularly. Your tearing down muscles and rebuilding them stronger (someone who understands sports physiology, please jump in here!). Basically, it's really important not just to challenge yourself, but then to recover through walking and then with those built in rest days.

If you do take on the running C25K (which you ABSOLUTELY should), you really have to get yourself fitted with some good running shoes. Without them you can injure yourself.

Oh you need to stretch after your exercises. That's a good idea for walking, too.

Stretching? :confused3 Good shoes? You mean running barefoot is bad? :rolleyes1
So is it really better to run? I'm just curious. It won't effect whether or not I give it a try or not, but I remember there being some debates on whether running was really much better than walking, and it was much harsher on your body.

I am sorry to hear you are still feeling crappy, and now your DH is too. Take care.

Hope everyone did well today!! :cheer2:

My day was ok.
High point: Passing on a chocolate dipped ice cream cone. Had it in my hand, and gave it back. Didn't even take a lick. :goodvibes
Low Point: Eating WAY too many strawberries with whip cream.

Talk to ya'll tomorrow.

Ooh, it's so great to see everyone so active here!

About the sugar, well, I say good for you. I know I am a bad influence. I really am. But seriously, life is too short to deprive ourselves some simple treats now and then. It's like that saying, "Life is short, eat dessert first."

But as long as those items are not part of a daily diet then I personally don't see the problem.

I know for myself I will never even attempt to stay away from sugar.

Hi Beth, since you were not on board here when this part of the discussion started, let me explain. No one here, including myself, are trying to impose our way of eating on anyone else here. This is so personal and most of us have been on various eating plans over the years, we know that all of them work. I think whatever works for you is what matters, and we're here to support each person in their own personal choices because everyone is different and we're changing all the time.

The only reason we started talking about sugar is because Jen expressed an interest in getting off her sugar habit. And she asked me how do you do it? So for the record, I would never preach my way or any one way. I think you might have gotten the wrong impression and really wanted to set that straight. (I am not a sugar-nazi) ;)

Then Jen mentioned something about wishing she could have a sugar day and I brought up another plan I had seen work - the 6 days on, 1 day off. And yes Jen, you probably can make 2 careful off days work for you. I think the point I want to make is that if you know you are addicted to sugar and you want to break a sugar habit, (as Jen said she did) it's easier if you truly do break it before you start reintroducing it slowly. That means not having it for a while, until you can say you are not addicted to it. I know, I've been there.

But do whatever works for you. Because the great thing is, you can still eat sugar and lose weight.
:)

Thanks Donna! It's nice to be back. I really did miss y'all!

Yes, my step dad is Filipino. He and my mom married when I was 7. Sadly, we were never close. I barely tolerated him most of the time growing up, and now quite frankly I could care less if I ever speak with him. I don't hate him or anything, we just never became close.

But I grew up with all my relatives and cousins being Filipino and I was close to my cousins. And you are right, none of them were really overweight. Maybe a few pounds but nothing major. It's not fair!! And my half brother is one of those who can eat all day long and he's a stick.
. ;)

It must have been tough for you at 7. I think it's the adult's responsibility to make the kids feel as loved and included as possible. Did you have any siblings before he married your mom?

Vancouver, WA or Vancouver, BC? I am right next to BC! Have fun!

I feel like my pants are looser today. Maybe it is just my imagination, but even if it is, it feels good...like I am accomplishing something.

Sarah

Thx, Sarah, I always love the water reminders! Great on loose pants!

Thanks! Capilano Bridge was suggested by a coworker from the UK who lived there for 5 years and also Stanley Park. We aren't planning to rent a car but what I've read public transpertation will work for what we want to do...really we are easy going and will have fun exploring!

Yes, that's what we did. Stanley Park, ride the bus/tram around that and get off where you want, Vancouver Island - love it, and the Gardens - if you love flowers. I think it will be great if you and Sarah can meet up!

Dh has been working out and got hurt and finally went to the doctor today. They say he pulled some cartiledge (how you do that I have no idea). Anyway, it is supposed to be painful for about a week but no major damage done.

That's a shame. So when he trains you, remind him to be careful, get you warmed up, and not overdo.

Welcome back Beth!

I lost 1.5lbs this past week .

Great on the passing of the cone!!!
Yeah, I've heard those debates too. I think the jury is out. Runners look so fit. It just depends on your own joints I think.

Jen, sorry you two are not feeling well. I can't even think about exercising when I'm sick.

Did my weigh-in, down 1/2 lb. We are going to take it up a notch because we both want to see 1 lb a week. Trained on weights and machines and did 30 min on the elliptical.

Keep swimming everyone! (hint, hint)

Yes, running really is good for you. Of course, each individual needs to take into account her own situation (injuries, etc.), but for most, running has many health benefits. Although I love walking and recommend it highly, I never got my heart rate up there and did not get the same kind of workout. Running is a whole different ball park for me that's gotten me to a new level of fitness.

Here's some propaganda with benefits of running, if you are interested:
http://running.about.com/od/runningforbeginners/a/whatisrunning_2.htm

And good job with giving back the ice cream. I don't think I could have done that. I know I couldn't have done it if it was chocolate dipped. Those cones are SO good, but so not good for you.

So for the record, I would never preach my way or any one way. I think you might have gotten the wrong impression and really wanted to set that straight. (I am not a sugar-nazi) ;)
Oh, I know. I didn't think that at all. And I'm sorry if I sounded judgemental. I didn't mean to.

Thanks for that link. I'm going to check it out because I am interested. :)

Well, Day 1 of the C25K is done. It was hard for me. I wanted to quit halfway through, but kept going. I'm glad I did.

Have a good day everyone.

Morning Beth! Actually I hope your comment leads to healthy discussion. I just wanted the lurkers to know that we're here to support their eating plans, whatever they choose. I've belonged to several support groups over the years and one common rule was not to compare yourselves out loud. If one person said they are having a hard time cutting out something out of their eating plan, it doesn't help them to encourage them to have it, kwim?

It's kind of a dialog we might have with our mothers when we were younger - mom, I'm having such a hard time cutting out sugar - and she'd just encourage you to have it because life is short and she wants to see you happy. Meanwhile, in my case, she died young from being overweight with high b.p.

Well, I just shared with you all my inner motivation for losing weight. Now you know why I've become wild about exercise.

And look at you! First day on the C25K! That is wonderful, Beth. Congratulations.:cheer2:

Have a good day everyone - keep moving!

Was that running C25k or walking if I may ask?

I'm feeling a bit better today and am going to try to get in a 45 minute to 1 hour run.

And yes, I did ask for the getting off sugar advice. I made it yesterday and will try again today. I certainly don't intend to never eat sugar again; I just don't want to need it so badly -- both physiologically and psychologically. And from what I understand, sugar isn't altogether good for you if you eat too much. http://www.healingdaily.com/detoxification-diet/sugar.htm So I'll keep trying and hopefully will get to a good balance at some point.

QUOTE OF THE DAY
What this power is I cannot say; all I know is that it exists and it becomes available only when a man is in that state of mind in which he knows exactly what he wants and is fully determined not to quit until he finds it.

No exercise for me yesterday, I was just too wiped out. My eating was really sporadic and I don't even know why! Better luck today I hope!

It is hard isn't it but it can be done! We went to Cold Stone the other night and I didn't have anything...that was soooo hard because I am addicted to their coffee ice cream with heath bars!

It must have been tough for you at 7. I think it's the adult's responsibility to make the kids feel as loved and included as possible. Did you have any siblings before he married your mom?

I am very lucky that Bob's kids like me...they may not love me sometimes but I try to just be the favorite aunt and stay out of things unless asked for my advice. ;)

Sarah also suggest the Capilano suspension bridge and that looks really fun so we are doing that for sure on Sat. We may try to get to Stanley Park too. I think it will be fun too if we an get together!

I always thought that running was hard on your knees, legs but I have had no problems so far (knock on wood) I am sore some times and I have little aches and pains but nothing that has caused any real problems. I think it's important to start slow like the C25K program and also listen to your body and back off if needed. I am not running major miles but I plan to work up to more mileage when I'm ready. Right now I am just happy to be running at least 3 - 3.5 miles every other day. Do I love it? Not yet! When I first start my runs I am grumpy but something fun happens and the longer I run the better I feel and the more my mood improves. I don't think I get that runners 'high' but it is just easier after the first 5 to 10 min.

Way to go on your weight loss!! I will weigh before I leave on Friday but I am not expecting anything big.

I could never get my heart rate up while walking. I can walk forever but I just can't seem to walk very fast, for me it is easier to run than to try to walk faster.

Well, Day 1 of the C25K is done. It was hard for me. I wanted to quit halfway through, but kept going. I'm glad I did.
Great Beth! It was hard for me too and as I’ve said over and over when I first started I never imagined that I’d be running for 45 min. without any walk breaks and running 3.5 miles. You can do it! Also what I found fun was keeping a journal and jotting down a little about each run. It’s fun to look back at those first days. I still write in my journal.

As for me I ran 3.16 miles last night. I really did not want to go run. I was in the mood around 7:30pm but Bob was driving home from work so I asked him if he wanted to run with me so I waited for him and by the time he got home and organized it was 8:45pm and I was REALLY unmotivated but he bribed me and so out we went. The first mile was a struggle but I got into the groove and the other 2 miles went much better!
Jen – I hope you feel better soon! I know your ½ Marathon is just around the corner!
I hope everyone has a great day! I’ve got to get some work done for my working part of my Vancouver trip…geez!

Hi everyone...just wanted to stop by and say hello. I am in a BL challenge on another thread and I was biggest loser of the week for this past week! I am really happy about that! I hope I can continue to place in the top 10. It is motivation to keep going. I have done well on eating, even though Boston Pizza didn't have anything dwlz said they did. Luckily they had a Healthy food menu and I ordered off that and had a lovely florentine pizza for 10 points.

Have a great day!

Sarah

CONGRATULATIONS BL!!!::cool1::cool1:
Yummy, florentine pizza sounds good. I wonder if we have any Boston Pizza places around here.

I did a 60 minute run today with hills. Really took it out of me and I had to take a nap afterwards. But I was trying to get back into the groove after all these days of not exercising much. I think I'll be OK.

Also got a new pair of running shoes! They are exactly the same as my old ones, but feel totally different. I didn't realize how due I was for a replacement pair. Wow, I have support again for me feet.

Have been eating pretty well. No sugar, though I did have white rice in one of those lean cuisine meals for dinner. I'm counting my points now, not just doing core, as I think I may have been eating too much the last couple of weeks. We'll see how it goes.

Meanwhile, in my case, she died young from being overweight with high b.p.

It was running. I am sore now. :lmao: Seriously, I am sooooo out of shape. It's pathetic. I've never been an athlete. Even when I was young and thin, I was more of the "sit there and look pretty and don't break a nail" type, than a sports person.

Good luck on your journey to kick the sugar habit. I know you can do it. :flower3:

Thanks for the encouragement! It helps a lot. And great job on how far you've come with your running.

Awesome!! :yay:

I've decided when I can, meaning when I remember, I'd like to come here at the end of the day and post my highs and lows. No one has to read it or comment unless you want to. It's just something I think will be helpful for me. :)

So for today:

High point ~ Exercising when I really, really, really, did not want to this morning and not stopping when the running seemed too hard.

Low point ~ Going grocery shopping while I was hungry!! Which resulted in buying a bunch of "stuff" that isn't very healthy and now I am going to have to deal with that being in the house and resisting that temptation.

Night!

:goodvibes Thanks, Beth.

Some good remedies for soreness - epsom salt baths! And be sure to move tomorrow, (gently at first).

I totally know what you mean by not being the athletic type when young... I never had any brothers... But it is never too late! Don't forget, dancing is exercise too!
