Disneyland Birthday Celebration

My son will celebrate his 3rd birthday in the park on June 2. I was thinking about a character breakfast at the Plaza and then the party with Pat E Cake in the afternoon. Minnie and Mickey are his favorites. Debating if it might be too much in one day and if I should do the character breakfast another day. I've had friends say that we should absolutely do both on his birthday because he will get a little extra attention on his special day. Has anyone else celebrated a birthday in the park and can provide some feedback on the experience.

Also, I would like to buy him Birthday Ears. I've seen them on disneystore.com under the park products. Does anyone know if I can buy them in DL or if I am better off ordering in advance and bringing with us?. The ones online aren't for kids - they are adult sizes. I would prefer that he be able to wear them all day.

Any other ideas/recommendations for making his day extra special?

Sto by city hall and get a birthday button. Cast members take notice and I swear when i wore mine, more characters stopped near me during parades!

my son did the afternoon bday party with pat e cake and mickie and minnie and loved it, but he was turning 5.
We did do an noon time nap though at the hotel I recommend those anyway for anyone traveling with a child.
you know what your child can and can't handle. Do the afternoon naps and get the birthday button EVERYONE stops and says happy birthday and sometimes cast members have a sticker or something they'll give him and everywhere we ate they gave him a free dessert, little brownie thing with a candle. (Though I didn't get those on my bday, guess my son is cuter, lol)
My son loved the extra attention which says a lot considering the fact that he is autistic.
