Disneyland Accommodations Similar to Vistana Resort in Florida

We have traveled to WDW in Florida several times and have always stayed at the Vistana Resort or Vistana Villages. We are contemplating a 2006 trip to DL in California. Are there any accommodations close to DL that are similar to the Vistana resorts? I am primarily interested in the extra space, cleanliness, security, and kitchen facilities of the unit. The "resort" amenities such as planned activities, on-site restaurants, etc., are of no importance.

Since this will probably be our only trip to DL, I was thinking that foregoing the extra space and staying at the Grand Californian might also be an option.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance for any help.

Try clicking on the sticky "official Disneyland Resort and Good Neighbor Hotels" thread. Mary Jo has posted a lot of info and pictures for various nearby resorts. I know there a couple of Residence Inn's close to Disneyland that might fit your bill. Good luck!

We just got back from Marriott's Newport Coast Villas, a timeshare property about 20 miles from Disneyland Resort. We were going to stay at the Grand Californian, but we opted for the 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom, full kitchen villa instead. It was a fraction of the cost. We didn't go to DL this time, but we stayed at the same place in April and drove to the parks. It only took about 30 minutes or less during that time of year. Anyhow, we like the timeshare and used the kitchen daily. There is another timeshare property much closer to DLR (Fairfield's Dolphin's Cove Resort, Anaheim), but it isn't as nice as the Marriott's or Starwood's.

We own a Starwood timeshare (like Vistana Villages) that is 2 bedrooms/2 bathrooms, so it is hard for us to stay in hotel rooms anymore. At the GCH, we book two rooms and request that they be adjoining. We miss the kitchen facilities when we are there but LOVE the close proximity to the parks. We just couldn't afford the AP rate of $302/night plus tax and resort fee x 2 rooms this time around. The Newport Coast Villas cost us less than $800 for the week.

If we do stay at the GCH, we'll try to go during off-season when the rates are bit lower. Last year, we went in March and our room was $159/night. We had two rooms for $318 plus the resort fees and taxes. Still high for us but better than twice that much this year.

Good luck with your travel plans!

How did you get such a great deal at the Marriott? Did you rent directly from an owner?

Yes, we were able to find private rentals. I had reservations with Marriott at $400/night in case I didn't find a better deal, but luckily I was able to cancel those! I LOVE the convenience of the GCH, but for three nights and two rooms, we were going to have to pay over $2000, and our budget wouldn't justify it this summer.
