Tuesday, 10/02/01 – Magic Kingdom – or “disneycub sniffles his way through the ‘Share A Dream Come True’ parade”

For the sake of brevity (since when?), this part of the trip report is not going to be a detailed play by play. I’ll just hit the highlights, and hope you won’t all be brokenhearted. Most everybody has been to the Magic Kingdom before.

After our usual breakfast somewhere, Malcolm and I headed out to the Magic Kingdom. Can’t particularly remember how I was feeling that day. We rode Splash Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Pirates, Buzz Lightyear, Winnie the Pooh, and I finally got to see Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress for the first time since the mid-60s. Yes, that makes me practically ancient (I actually met Walt in the early-60s, back when dinosaurs ruled the earth …)

I think we pretty much snacked our way through the Magic Kingdom and had a prime viewing location for the “Share A Dream Come True” parade. I know there have been a number of less-than-complimentary reports published about SADCT, but you won’t find that here. I absolutely loved the parade. The snow globes were beautifully done. Some of those featured inside the globes were Mickey Mouse, Pinnochio, Peter Pan, the evil queen from Snow White, Winnie the Pooh, and Beauty and the Beast. For the most part, the globes stopped in front of our viewing spot, and the characters interacted with the crowd.

The best part for me, was right at the end of the parade. The music swelled, and almost every character you can imagine appeared, shaking hands with the crowd. So many happy childhood memories flashed before my eyes, and ol’ disneycub about lost his grip on reality, and had to fight back tears. I was beginning to believe that the magic had faded as of late, but there it was again, staring me right in the face. This parade is an absolute MUST SEE!!!

I wish I had some photos to show you of the parade, but Malcolm was the designated photo-taker of the day (guess who FORGOT his camera!!). Malcolm used a traditional camera, so perhaps I can share them with you at a later time.

Later that evening, we kept our PS at the Flying Fish Café. The food here is unbelievably good, flawlessly presented, and expensive. Moral of the story for disneycub: check the price before you order. We both had appetizers, entrees, Malcolm had two glasses of wine, and we both enjoyed dessert. Total bill: a whopping $150 including tip. I could have just about died. Kept thinking “that’s more than some third-world people make in a year!” Oh well, I got over it soon enough. In the grand scheme of things it’s only money. I’ll make more, and there are things far more important than money in life….

Later on, Part 5 – Epcot, or “OMG!!! The Fountain is Back On!!!”

They would have been carrying me out on the stretcher if that had been my bill. Sounds like a great day - hope I can see the new parades some time. Thanks for posting!

Ahh Steve, I understand you getting all teary-eyed, and I am talking about the parade, not the bill from FFC! ;)

Really, sometimes there are moments when it just "gets" you, and you're touched to the heart. That wonderful magic! I'm glad you're a person who can feel it.

I've only eaten at the FFC once, but I really enjoyed the food, and the pricey wine I had. I'd go back in a second! I think it's a good restaurant for solo dinning also, especially with a seat at the bar or food prep area.

I'm enjoying your reports, thanks!

Great report. I am really looking forward to those new parades!! Where was your prime viewing location? I just might have to "steal" it for my trip.
