Disney World parks next week/Galaxy's Edge + park hopping

Hi all! I will be at Disney World next week, including for the opening of Galaxy’s Edge. I’m having a tough time figuring out what tickets to buy and on what days. I can only be in the parks Wednesday 5pm and later, Thursday all day (that is Galaxy's Edge opening and Food and Wine start) and Friday 12-5 (though could do early extra magic entry to a park Friday). It seems that park hoppers will be smart with potentially higher crowds. I’m just wondering about not even going into the parks on Friday, but that means I’d have to get into Hollywood Studios on Thursday for sure. Am I going to be able to get in the evening? Such as after 5pm? Thought I suppose no one knows that answer.

One option is to not go into any parks on Wednesday to just save money. But I was considering HS to do rides in Toy Story land, or park close Flight of Passage, and MK is open until midnight.... wondering if less crazy to do some attractions/rides on Wednesday evening.

Any thoughts by Disney pros appreciated! I’m also concerned about the noon entry hops because you can do a lot in the morning, and there will be chances for rain. And I am looking at doing a water park Thursday or Friday.

I have never changed my plans for rain. I wouldn't even take the weather into consideration

Here's how you plan for rain during August at WDW:

It WILL rain ..HARD .. EVERY day .. sometime between 2-5 pm .. sometimes for only 15 minutes, sometimes for hours. So .. just plan that it will rain .. and then be excited when it doesn't.

I usually purposely plan on just doing inside attractions or going back to the hotel in the afternoons in August (to cool down from heat and/or escape rain). It worked out great this past week as it rained (briefly) while sitting in our hotel room at 3-4 pm.

OK so let's take out rain. What are thoughts on Star Wars crowds? Will I get in on Thursday evening?

Unless you have any kind of reservations for Thursday OR want to camp out at Midnight on Wed then I would say HS/SWGE would probably be a miss, not sure how or what the crowds will be like but first thing in the morning is going to be crazy, hopefully it tapers off as the day goes on........good luck!

PS, plan for rain and more rain, then decide on ponchos or umbrella.....

Yep, got poncho and used it on my last trip! Thanks! And good idea... maybe I can just get dinner reservation at HS... I assume I would get into the park with that. Though looks like since I'm staying at a Disney official resort I get in based on that in the different tiers of closing without needing reservation (just not level 4, which is no one can enter)

Resort stay, no just one of the big 3 will get you in GE, Savi's, Droid depot or Oga's, no VQ in place yet, or at least WDW has announced.......

I’m not interested in actually doing anything in Galaxy’s Edge, just want to walk through, so my only concern is if HS will completely close gates to new people arriving to the park if capacity is reached. All Disney resort guests have priority and can get into a crowded park until absolute capacity is reached.

i don't think anyone knows what the Star Wars crowds will be at WDW. Will the 6 am opening give enough time to the diehards to clear it out later in the day? Will it just be jammed back because it is the official opening weekend?

I would say you may just have to plan for the worst and hope for the best.

Having just been there for a preview, there is plenty of room to move around in there, but I hope for the guests sake they limit the crowds to about the same sizes as the AP preview crowds -- just to be able to experience it and feel immersed in it .. not feel like you are shoulder-to-shoulder with people.

Based on this I'm not sure you understand that being admitted to HS does not automatically permit you to enter Galaxy's Edge. The land itself has a capacity that is much lower than the overall HS capacity and operates under different rules, as has been shown at Disneyland. If it is at capacity, you will not be allowed in, even just to walk around. That is why people have been been making reservations at Oga's, Savi's, and Droid Depot because one of those reservations guarantees you access to the land.

That's just for the park, not the land itself. For the first 3 days there's no extra benefit for resort guests to get into the land. Starting Sept 1 is when they'll have EEMH for resort guests from 6am-9am
