We are taking our 3 year old And 8 month old to disney world in November. It's hard to explain to them where we are going since they are so young. Can anyone recommend a book that we can read to them and show them pictures? Thanks in advance!!

Did you try the WDW guide for kids? If you have time, order one of the free travel DVDs they offer on the Disney site, I found these great multimedia ways to show the kids where we were going AND get ideas on what they might want to see when we were there. In worked so well, they both kept saying they couldn't wait to get the Mickey Mouse ear shaped ice cram when we got there. It was the very first thing we did when we got in the main gate. (Brings lots of napkins, bibs, and at least two change of clothes.

Another thing I thought of, if they are scared of a ride, try offering them a pin from the ride as a "trophy" or "reward" for overcoming their fears on doing the ride. Of course this worked a bit better on the older child.

I have a 4 year old and we show them videos on YouTube of Disney, various rides, etc. The visual really seems to help!

The old Sing-A-Long DVD about Disneyland was great for our oldest when he was young. It gave him an idea of what the characters would look like, rides, etc. It's dated (from the 1990s), but he still loves to watch it, even at almost 5.

There are other Sing-A-Long DVDs set in WDW (a beach one predominantly at Typhoon Lagoon and around Bay Lake, a "camping" one set around Ft. Wilderness and old Discovery Island, and an Animal Kingdom one). After the DL version, my DS liked the camping one next best.

We used these DVDs when we took our DD who was 15 months. She loved watching and singing along and still watches it. I think it will help prepare her now that she'd 3 and her baby brother who will be 2 when we go next summer for the parks.nhighly recommend. Got ours super cheap at Walmart.

The free DVDs on the Disney site are great, we got them last year before our trip and he still watches them. We also did some YouTube videos, by far his favorites were the "dream along with mickey" show and the animal kingdom parade. He was 2 1/2 and by the time we got there he knew the characters well and had memorized the Mickey show. The free personalized maps you can get on the site are also neat.

The story of Disney Bear; a day at the Magic Kingdom. We bought this a couple of trips ago and the kids love it. It's like a little golden book about Mickey and his bear that comes to life. The two of them go through MK and go on rides and watch the fireworks.

Birnbaum's guide works as well.

Even if they can't read/can't read well there are lots of pictures to look at. I had one when I was 9 and loved it, and when I'm babysitting my baby cousin he likes to look at all the pictures. I think my aunt and uncle are worried they're going to have to take him to Disneyland soon.

Thanks y'all!! Those are all great ideas. I ordered the DVDs off the site the other day and I'm going to order the pop up book too. We are so excited to take the girls! I've been fortunate enough to visit WDW several times with my family but my husband has never been. I'm just as excited for him to go as I am the girls!
