Disney Wonder September 3, 2012. Seattle to Vancouver 7 night Alaska Cruise!

Edit to add something else I need to not get excited about - the Aurora forecast for the Juneau day is "Moderate" and shows the band almost touching Juneau (all the other days are "Low"). Maybe we can see some Northern Lights!

Oh my gosh!! I'm so excited about this! Maybe there will be another solar flare that can help the auroras along. My DH would be in heaven if we could see some.

Packing today. Flying tomorrow. This is almost real.

Wow! I just checked on the 4B category (for grins since it's on deck 8). 8 rooms came up. I typed in a room that didn't come up and it gave it to me! There must be so many empty rooms! I can't imagine they'll sell anymore rooms. Who just up and decides to take a 7 night cruise to Alaska 5 days before it sails??? I'm really excited the ship will be quiet. Maybe lines for characters will be nice and short! ** fingers crossed **

:banana: One week from now we'll be sailing Tracy Arm!:banana:

I love the idea of a quieter ship with no lines, no waits, plenty of seats to choose from... AND it would make finding and running into all my new DisBoards friends that much easier! I can't wait to meet you all.

So I finally got my FE gifts mailed out yesterday, and as I recall, there were two families added to the latest FE list. I lost track of the emails for them, but if you are one of the two last minute additions, I have you covered!!!!!!!!!!!!!:thumbsup2

Do you think Disney will tell us if we'll be able to see it on a particular night? I hope so because I don't want to spend my night waiting to see something that won't appear. :magnify::sail:

BUT, the weather is looking a little better (per weatherunderground)

Seattle
Monday
Clear. High of 72F. Winds less than 5 mph.

Skagway
Thursday
Mostly cloudy. High of 52F. Winds from the South at 5 to 10 mph.

Juneau
Friday
Mostly cloudy. High of 57F. Winds from the SSE at 5 to 10 mph

Ketchikan
Saturday
Clear. High of 57F. Winds less than 5 mph.

I'll take "mostly cloudy" over rain any day!! Either way, it'll sure beat the 100 degrees it's been here!

OMG my DH will go nuts if we can see the northern lights! And I just bought a new camera, so I will too! ;)

What did you end up getting? I lost my mind and bought a Canon T4i. So now we will be those crazy people with 2 DSLRs (my husband will have the T2i). :rotfl2: I'll probably sell the older one once we get back. But we both thought it would be cool to have 2 cameras for the trip!

I don't know if Disney will tell us if there are Auroras to be seen. I know a friend of ours stayed in Alaska once and the hotel they stayed at had a wake-up call service if the Aurora was present. That would be neat if they would call and wake you up.

We should probably not get our hopes up about it... Let it be a bonus if it does happen. I can't believe it is so soon! :dance3:

Ha! I completely understand! ;) Well I planned on the t2i, but then the t4i came out, so the t3i didn't feel as unattainable, so I got it as a bundle! I got it just a couple weeks ago so I have been testing it out all over Seattle to practice! we are also bringing our p&s, because I am not familiar with it enough to get really fast shots of DS doing his cute things yet!

We are all packed. Leaving bright and early tomorrow for Seattle.

I don't know if we will make the Dis meet, so have a great cruise everyone!!!

One thing is that it's pretty bright everywhere on the ship. I don't know if it's for liability, security, or just because people seem to like really bright lights. On our eastern Caribbean cruise I figured it would be no problem to see the Milky Way since we were hundreds of miles from the nearest population center. Boy, was I wrong. Couldn't see any more stars than we can at home in the suburbs, due to the on-deck lighting as well as the lights under the water line that shine up.

I have a Canon T1i which I will be bringing. I just wish I'd had the $s for the lens I wanted (70-200mm) but I'll be bringing my trusty 24-70mm.

Headed to the airport in 2 hours! See everyone on the ship!! (If not here on the Alaska thread before that.)

Travel safe everyone!!

Yeah, I only had one lens for my Pentax SLR (50mm f/1.4) but for the trip I splurged and got a 55-300mm f/4-5.8. Got to be able to shoot those bears! Unfortunately I ordered the wrong one, sent it back, then my next try was delayed. (Will not be using Walmart Ship-To-Store again, I ordered 7am on the 15th and they didn't notify me until two days ago that it wasn't going to make its delivery window!)

So today I am very eagerly awaiting the shipment from B&H, so I can start getting used to shooting with my first long lens.

BTW - if some of you are saying, "who's this guy crashing our thread?", as others might have guessed, this my husband, Walt!

Tonight laundry, tomorrow pack, Sunday fly, Monday CRUISE!!! :cool1:

I know, I really wanted a long lens, too, but alas.... We are going on a rather expensive trip in 3 days! ;) I will be taking my 18-55 kit lens, but so far I have been very pleased with it!

I wish the weather people would make up their minds - I'm getting an ulcer over the forecasts! :rotfl2: I'm glad we're leaving tomorrow and I can stop checking it. The good news is our Ketchikan day looks pretty good on all the weather sites. The bad news is Juneau and Skagway look pretty rainy depending on which site you look at. Grrr...

Safe travels to all! See you Monday!!!

At this point, it can snow and I will be fine... I just want to get on that ship!

My daughter and I fly to Seattle tomorrow to meet up with my husband Greg who is flying from CA. After much debate, I have compacted the massive amount of stuff and reduced our pile of four huge bags and two rolling carry ons down to three huge bags, one carry on and my somewhat large purse. This is just for the two girls... Greg has his own two big bags and a rolling carry on. (more than the girls.. hee hee) He is gonna blame it all on me for "making" him pack so much! :rotfl2:

Very excited!

I have 3 suitcases for 4 of us and I thought I packed way too much.. hehe..
I might have to sleep on the deck since my huge 200 sq ft room is going to be full :rotfl2:

Maybe we'll see you in Seattle :)

Yeah, we are just ridiculous. The ONLY positive is that our bags are rolling duffles that when unpacked can be flattened, I hope they will store under the bed. One entire bag is gifts, so it will be empty real quick. I am also trying to justify this mess by the fact that we will be gone for five weeks.... but it still just feels silly. LOL

If you have trouble getting luggage to fit under the bed, just lift up the frame at the foot of the bed. :thumbsup2
