Disney Wonder September 3, 2012. Seattle to Vancouver 7 night Alaska Cruise!

We have all gone a little Disney crazy in our family... We got together this weekend to plan a Thanksgiving 2013 family trip which at the moment is going to include 12-13 family members. What a fun way to spend our Thanksgiving in '13 :)

We are getting so excited for the cruise and I'm going to start packing this week.

Hi everyone. Couple of questions........only my second time on a Disney cruise, been a few years and this time traveling solo. Just want my "I"s dotted and "t"s crossed and would appreciate some help.

I know that they handle your luggage straight from the airport, but does that include ground transfer to the ship or do I need to purchase it? I'm staying in Vancouver when we dock and don't need transfers after.

Also, can anyone recommend a dining time? I might be in the earlier seating and would rather sit with other adults? Is there a distinct difference or does Disney try to accommodate this?

I'm so thankful for this forum!

Hi NJMF! Disney does an excellent job with their dinner seating assignments. They go out of their way to match singles with singles, couples with couples, and families with families - even matching ages, if possible. I have no doubt you'll have some great tablemates in your stage of life. As for late or early dining, I think you'll be fine with either; however, I recommend the later dining time because of the times we're in port. Some of them will cut it close for early dining. Plus, there are a lot more families and smaller kids in the early dining time.

Regarding transfers, you have to purchase them from Disney. I just received an email from DCL reminding me I do not have transfers on my reservation (we don't need them). You could probably log on right now and reserve a transfer for the front end of the trip.

Looking forward to meeting you!

By the way, has anyone called recently to find out which movies are playing during our cruise? I'm just curious and keep forgetting to call. Let me know if you know anything. THANKS!

Ground transfer is booked separately. I checked it today and it was $30 one-way and $55 roundtrip. Per person that is.

If you'd like to sit with adults, I would suggest the second seating. It is generally calmer, a little less noisy, and fewer kids. The downside is that it is about 8:15pm for dinner, I think. Manage your snacking so you can make it to dinner but are not too full. :thumbsup2

Correct, the Disney transfers are $30 one way. I am going with the ShuttleExpress which is about $20 and is right next to where Disney picks you up. You do have to manage your own luggage from the airport to the van though, but I think I can manage.

As for the dining, I never liked eating that late, so I'll be on the early dining myself(and DW). I read, and they told me on the phone, and others mentioned already, that they do try to keep adults together and families together, but there is always a chance that a table didn't fill and you will be seated with a family.

See ya soon.:grouphug:

While I didn't call, I did a little searching. From what a cruiser was told when they called in(around 7/31), the following movies will be playing on the Wonder to Alaska on the 8/13 sailing. More than likely, the movies will be the same or vary just slightly.

Here they are:

Brave
Cars 2 in 2d & 3d
The Help
Muppets
People Like Us
War Horse
John Carter
Chimpanzee
Odd Life of Timothy Green will be PREmEARing 8/15!!!!

Am excited! We have deliberately not watched Brave, in readiness for cruise. Will be with blanket for a late night show.
This has prompted me to check on our inboard entertainment on our uk to lax flight, before we transfer to Seattle flight!
Yay...

I was hoping for Toy Story 3. I still haven't watched it. Oh well. These look like some really good movies. I got to see a preview showing of Brave 3 weeks before it came out. It is really fun.

I think it's funny that Disneyland had a new section in the park (next to Small World) that has the Brave people the day that Brave came out, if not before.

This is great! Thanks, Cinderelly! I was hoping The Avengers would still be playing. I'm excited about the premiere, though!

Hi all! We're now thinking about brunch at the Space Needle before the Mariners game. Are there any coupons/discounts/secrets about it? It looks like brunch and dinner are the only options on the weekend. The brunch is $46. Ouch! I think we're planning to get a 10:30 or 11am reservation so we won't be late to the game. Thanks for the help!

If you like Seafood Salty on Alki has a great Sunday Brunch. It has a fantasic view of Seattle from across the bay.

Onboard Discount Question: We are wanting to book a WDW vacation for 2013. I know you can get an onboard discount for booking another cruise during the current cruise but does anyone know of the same discount applies for booking a WDW vacation while onboard?

No, but check out the DVC Rent/Trade board to save money on lodging at WDW.

Okay guys, I have now finished moving, and finished our adoption training, which means it's FE time!!! Finally got our FE figured out, the actual FE ordered, and stuff to make some gifts, and bought others! It's getting real now! :)

I just realized today that the Bumbershoot Festival will be taking place at Seattle Center (location of the Space Needle among others) during the entire Labor Day weekend. Here's some info from http://bumbershoot.org:

Bumbershoot®: Seattle’s Music & Arts Festival is now in its 42nd year. Since 1971, Bumbershoot has drawn artists representing the best in music, film, comedy, spoken word, dance, theatre, performance, and visual arts to the Seattle Center over Labor Day weekend. North America’s largest urban arts festival, Bumbershoot takes place in the heart of the city at the 74-acre Seattle Center. Over 100,000 visitors from near and far spend the weekend reveling in the world of Bumbershoot, experiencing everything from regional favorites to international superstars across all arts disciplines.

I'm sure the Space Needle will be open, but transportation, parking etc. will certainly be an issue. I'm sure the locals know more. We were thinking of visiting the Needle on Monday morning before heading to the pier, but looks like we'll head for the pier (taking the #24 bus!), avoid feeling rushed, and hopefully get a good boarding number! :)

I work in a place where I come in contact with people from all over, and I spoke with a Seattle resident about the impact of Bumbershoot on the city. He told me if I went anywhere downtown to use public transportation. He said 80% of the headaches the festival creates are parking related. I looked at the lineup, and I'm bummed that there isn't more than a couple of acts I''d like to see on Sunday. If it had good stuff I'd go to the festival.
