My family and I just came back from a 3 night cruise on the Disney Wonder (August 16th - 19th). We had a wonderful time. We drove to Port Canaveral from our home in Miami, Florida. The embarkation process just took about 45 minutes from the moment we got to the port to being on board. We were on board around 1:30 PM and headed straight to the cabin to drop off our carry on bag. From there we headed straight to the Spa, where my wife reserved the sea-weed wrap service for that same afternoon. I believe she got some type of discount. She also signed up for a raffle and won a free facial worth around $170. She had that done the next morning. After my wife signed up for her Spa service we headed for the Beach Blanket Buffet, which was very nice. They were serving a nice variety of foods from shrimp to freshly carved roast beef, to different types of salads and sandwiches. The desserts were also excellent. Since my 7 year old is a very picky eater, he asked for the pizza at the Pinnochio pizzeria and it was nice.
After lunch we started walking around the ship to identify where everything was and we signed up my son and 9 year old daughter into to Ocean Lab club. The children had a blast every time they spent some time there, from playing sports, to playing video games, to making chocolate chip cookies, etc.
We had the late seating dinner. We ate at Animator's Palate on the first night, Parrot Cay on the Second and skipped the other restaurant on the last nigh because my wife and I had a date at Palo's. The food at the first 2 restaurants was very good. The food at Palo's was excellent. The service at all of the restaurants was excellent, except for the first night, which was a little crazy for all the servers, since they were just meeting everyone.
We did not get off the ship at Nassau, since it is not really an attractive port for us. We stayed on board and along with a few other people had the ship for ourselves. The movie theater on board was showing Underdog, which was just released on the theaters, so we took the kids to watch it that afternoon. Later that evening, We saw the Golden Mickey's show and it was excellent. We did not have time to see the other two shows, since we were so busy doing other things. On that night it was Pirate's night and many people dressed up as pirates or wore Pirates of the Caribbean t-shirts, like we did. The party was very animated and it finished up with fireworks.
We did get off the ship at Castaway Cay and it was a raining for most of the day. So we just enjoyed a couple of hours at the beach with the children, had the barbecue lunch and came back on board. Interesting enough, it seemed like most people we just getting off the ship around the time we were coming back on. I guess most people slept in after a long night at the Pirate's party.
Debarkation on Sunday morning was quick and painless, after breakfast we were off the ship by 9:30 AM.
We are coming back October of next year and booked on board a 4 night cruise, so we got 10% off and $100 on board credit. Very nice!
We plan to transfer our reservation to a travel agent who is offering more on board credits for new reservations.
This was our second cruise ever, the first one was on RCI's Majesty of the Seas last year.
We are definitely hooked on cruises!!
Even though it is more expensive than other cruises, Disney cruises are really worth the extra money. If you have children especially, considering all the extras you get, such as character appearances, first run movies, two children friendly pools, one with a water slide, excellent family friendly shows, first class service and activities around the clock to keep everyone busy and happy.
We definitely recommend Disney Cruise Lines.
