Hello! This will be our third time on the Wonder to Alaska. We also sailed to Alaska in August 2017 and August 2019. I can't wait to go back :)

We are looking at either this sailing or the one after. We sailed Alaska for the first time end of May 2023 and can’t wait to go back, best trip ever. Wondering how the weather was for your August sailings? Did you sail earlier or later in the month? I read August is rainy, though of course you never know in Alaska. We are interested in seeing salmon run/bear excursion this time. We did see bears in May just on the side of the road going up to Yukon, but salmon was not running. Just wondering about your August experience and we might end up on your sailing!

I've sailed twice the week after this one. Our 2017 cruise was rainy, with rain almost every day except Ketchikan. Our 2019 cruise was sunny and warm the entire cruise. The pools were as busy as any Caribbean cruise I've been on. So, I guess I'm not very helpful. What I will say, is that the rain did not detract from our cruise at all!
On our 2017 cruise, we did the Bear excursion in Ketchikan. It was really great and we saw so many bears. We walked on an elevated walkway over a river and the salmon was running, so bears and eagles were busy feeding.

I guess that just proves the weather can be anything at any time in Alaska! I watched some September vlogs that had nice sunny weather, and July vlogs that were very rainy. We had a fair amount of rain on our May sailing, even though May is supposed to be the driest. Week before us was all sun and warm. I don’t actually care if it’s raining (adds to the majesty of Alaska imo), the only thing that I wouldn’t love would be extreme fog. Especially glacier day or train ride in Skagway. Thanks for the reply,we are going to finalize our plans this week!

Yes, for my 2017 cruise, glacier day was foggy. Luckily we had booked the glacier explorer so we still got great views. The fog was kinda cool looking in pics, but it was not a great day to hang out on deck at all.IMG_2750.JPG

Our May glacier day started out foggy & wet, then cleared up to partially sunny. We got super close to the glacier and had amazing views all around. Some people in our FB group were up on deck early and posted character photos with foggy backgrounds. Ours were crystal clear by noon. I debated on the Glacier explorer excursion but it was actually great on the ship. I think I’ll consider it for the August trip!
